This is a pretty weird point, and I don't even know where to start with it, but it was addressed to me for some reason ("whoever"... the credits are right there) so I'll respond to it in pieces.

1. 99% of the time the Scarlet Devil Mansion is called a mansion, but in that specific line Remilia inarguably calls it a castle, presumably metaphorically in a "my home is my castle" kind of way. Did you think the translator decided to call it a castle on a lark, or that I should've changed it in translation because it didn't fill a technical definition?

Hence why it's a nitpick

But anyways Remilia is over 500 years old, so she probably does know the difference between a castle and a mansion. It just reads weird because everywhere else it does get referred to as the mansion. Maybe in the original Japanese it makes more sense when combined with the rough historical knowledge a lay person would know, but in this case it feels like it creates a different image as to what Remilia is referring to.

I really wish that people just don't "change their sexual orientation" in a day, but wouldn't you be so curious how they did it if it really happened to some people, especially female?

Do you believe that there's a world where because the population is getting low, and in order to have the population to be high again, something came up and "straighten" up the female into hetero again?
But I don't think it works, because other wise, this has been such a good fix to Japan as we'll be seeing a birth rate blooms and not ended up having a statistics of both 30%+males and 40%+females would rather be single...

I'm not going to address the rest but I feel like these two can't really go not addressed

1. There is more sexual orientations than just do you like boys or girls. Bi/pan (liking both) people exist, grey/asexual (liking none) people also exist too.

2. The solution to a population decline is allowing greater immigration into a country. A lot of declining birth rate problems are due to the circumstances that arise under late stage capitalism in fully developed countries (it's expensive as fuck to have a child! let alone 2 to replenish the population). It's not very helpful though to think of the world purely through stats like brith rates though, as there's always going to be extenuating circumstances (money, time, prospective partners, technological level ) that effect local attitudes towards familial situations

5.6 million dollars is such an absurd amount of money for a painting by an amateur lol. I have no idea what's normal for a Chinese charity auction with Chinese celebrities, dunno why they were even bidding in dollars, but it strikes me as extreme nonetheless.

It might just be a translation thing so we'd understand the amount of money being spent, rather than having to do the math of converting Yuan (I'm pretty sure it's Yuan) to Dollars. It also could be that they are in Hong Kong, which uses dollars rather than Yuan.

I also think it's more of the gimmick of the whole event, spending a lot of money on something made by a non professional. It's sorta common here in the states I think.

Yuri / baihe has become incredibly popular in China lately. If you go to Youtube and search, you'll find literally thousands of short and medium-length movies with yuri stories. Some of them are even series, with dozens of episodes! From what I can tell, historical, fantasy and wuxia settings seem to be the biggest favorites.

Anyway, question to the people theorizing here: do we even have any credible confirmation of the Emperor's biological sex? I've been thinking, and for what I know they could have been born intersex or simply be transfeminine with severe dysphoria and the story would still work so far.

The series summary and the premise are based on the idea that the mother forced her daughter to lie for political gain--we've also seen her in private, heard her thoughts on the issues, and had her friend (who knows the situation) present them with a "gift" about lesbian sex etc. Beyond that, the series doesn't go into more specifics and nothing else has been hinted.

To slightly expand on these points:
The last panel of chapter 1 shows almost all of emperor's body (showing more is not possible due to the intended age rating or publisher's restrictions), it's impossible for the emperor and the empress to have children together, he's not impotent or anything adjacent, he absolutely can't reveal to anyone what's down there lest the secret is out, having both sets of genitals would make deceiving the empress much easier as he'd only have to show or use the male side, the emphasis on being empress dowager's son or empress' husband in public (including the "he" in quotation marks in chapter 9 - "他"什么性子哀家能不知道? in the original version).

I'd like to point out being intersex does not mean having two sets of genitalia. It simply means that at birth, you have something that means you don't fall neatly into masc or femme when you're born. It can be that you have both bits, but it's also possible to have boy bits with your balls in your body, or a enlarged clitoris that makes it hard to tell if it's a boy bit or a girl bit, or that you have neither gonads, or anything in between that doesn't fit either masc or femme categories neatly.

Anyways I am sorry for bringing up the idea that the there could be a double twist of the emperor being transmasc, can we please go back to being flustered over the general

They used a Carney tengu to build a crowd, you know, a tengu who uses tricks to build a crowd. Dressed in blue and all regal like, looked like a Daitengu. The Carney would run out into the street and suddenly shout.

And everyone would fly across the street while saying "what's the matter what's the matter"
"I've been robbed by the Capitalist system, fellow tengu!"

The story is nice and all but it's really hard to take things seriously without questioning all the clothing choices here. They're all so goofy looking. I guess I don't understand high fashion though
