That girl is terrifying. Is she flirting really hard, or just an airhead?

I think she's trying really hard to keep in Xin Xin's good graces so she has a place to stay away from her evil bad melodramatic rich person life that shes hiding.

Anyone who doesn't realize Usui's previous themes of asexuality were deeply connected to internalized lesbophobia... I'm envious that y'all didn't go through it. We lesbians not only grow up isolated, but also alienated. The only type of attraction to women we are taught is men's objectification, so a homosexual woman can go her entire life without realizing about her attraction since we just don't know what it's like to experience, we haven't seen attraction to women without dehumanization. And yes, a whole ton of us do feel disgusted towards our own attraction once we do realize. I myself struggled, still sometimes do, for nearly a decade with this. Before someone else told me I'm a lesbian, I didn't even think it was possible that what I felt for certain girls wasn't just deep affection. So, it is extremely possible we are witnessing in real time a lesbian woman finding herself through her works. I know I can absolutely see my own journey through these pages. Usui is, without a doubt, my favorite mangaka.

Edit: I forgot to mention. For five years, I was only comfortable with saying I was asexual than accepting the fact that I feel attraction exclusively to women, and Crescent Moon and Doughnuts did mirror my own thought process back then.

I don't necessarily think we can/should make any assumptions about Usui Shio's personal life, but you make a good point about her works spanning a wide breadth.

Even before this, every series she's done has approached topics of affection and intimacy from a different perspective and angle. It speaks highly of her skill as an author to tackle different aspects of what attraction, desire, and love actually mean to different people.

Usui Shio has now fully traversed the breadth of sexual identity in yuri with the beginning of this series

This is totally copium but wouldn't it be cool if this indicated that her next serialized work could be trans yuri?

I didn't notice this when reading the webnovel chapter, but is the implication here that Ji Youyan sold a song concept that she got from Jing Xiu??? If so that's insane.

We have truly reached a singularity point where local tourism, sports, food, and yuri subtext all merge into a super-dense black hole

Great insight into Jing Xiu's view of their relationship, and her very understandable misgivings towards Ji Youyan

I personally thought this was an incredible work, it really captures the mundane violence and tragedy of marriage/family under patriarchy and the art style is just gorgeous.

the way this is written definitely seems biographical to me so I'm not sure if there's supposed to be some special moral to it.

And no I don't think we need an armchair historian to describe how this tragic lesbian story is supposed to be some takedown of "le evil red china" either.

you know thinking about it, itou says that shes bad at understanding social cues but shes really good at reading how people feel, while takahashi is really good at understanding social cues but really bad at reading how people feel.

theyre very complimentary to each other.

The imagery of digging past a lifetimes worth of things to please others to finally reconnect with what you yourself like was so poignant, I absolutely love it.

ty for the chapter! If I recall this is right about the end of where the webnovel TL I've been following has got to, so I'm excited to start getting into uncharted territory.

Yea i dunno im not a huge fan of the short-haired girl. I get they were going for the cute kinda possessive but her actively sabotaging her friends social life is too toxic for my taste.

That's the point. The seemingly "normal" best friend being the true landmine girl compared to the girl who dresses in flashy hyper fem outfits

I love this series. Sorawo having a big gay moment over Toriko sucking the blood off her translucent hand is so good. As is her "Awkward" shirt that turns the w into an awkward emoji face.
(Also like the horror is well done and presented even better than I'd imagined based on the novel)

I noticed that the way sorawo reacts to toriko's hand bleeding is very reminiscent of sorawo's reaction to a certain scene at the end of volume 8

honestly I kinda feel like this premise might have too much going on lol. A "relatable self insert with no social skills" bumbling her way into a friend group with a vampire, exorcist, and vampire lover(?) seems kinda overly complex. I'm not sure where she'll fit in comparatively.

Based on the name change I'm wondering if she actually got in under another girl's application, due to her own application being rejected or some other circumstance for the nun to try and do something underhanded.

Thus, maybe the villainess label is from another girl's answers
