Mahiro is honestly a great top.
Right? I've been noticing in the past few chapters she's getting more outgoing/mature than Mahiru, it's really interesting to see! Her design is evolving a bit too, specifically around the eyes. Honestly, this is the first time I've ever been able to even remotely tell which is which because we're finally seeing them as separate people. I'm really interested to see what happens- I think it's pretty clear Mahiru is a bit thrown by it herself.
I think it's really interesting how the author is starting to focus more on the differences between these two. Like, Mahiro is starting to seem more outgoing and mature (comparatively speaking lol), and this is even evident in her design, namely around the eyes. I've never really had much of an opinion on these two, but the more the chapters focus on the slight differences and their relationship changing little by little, the more I'm interested!
I love how everyone likes teasing Nononon lol
As someone who was a lot like her (in mainly the naive/self confidence issues way) I can say that my friends, at least, seemed to find the temptation to tease me irresistible for some reason. They did it so much that by the time I was in college my innocence regarding all aspects of innuendo and such (which was what I was lacking in knowledge on that they mainly teased me for) was essentially gone. (I still blush crazy easily though- unfortunately that bit never changed.)
That said, it'd be interesting to see Yumimi react to other people teasing Nononon- I feel like it's almost her love language with her.
"Our Yuri Started with Me Getting Rejected in a Dream"
God I fucking wish. Poor Ayano cant catch a break even in her dreams. And the worse thing is that Miyoshi has dreams being banged by Ayano. Meanwhile Ayano just gets fucked over by the universe.
Lol that's a pretty apt summary xD
I feel like a big issue is also that Ayano probably wants to be confessed to. I don't know why, but just seeing them interact, their dynamic...I feel like she probably wants Miyoshi to figure it out and ask her out/confess to her. Even when she's told Miyoshi she loves her, it's never really in a 'confession' manner (or it's done while Miyoshi's unconscious). Meanwhile Miyoshi is the type of person to either a) never catch on to her own feelings, let alone Ayano's, b) assume ALL best friends do these things/feel these things for each other, or c) assume they're already dating and not feel the need to clarify.
Which, imo, is how we've reached this impasse. These two really codify the whole 'unstoppable force/immovable object' trope, and I honestly can't tell which way it's going to go. Though it seems like ANYTHING Ayano tries (up to and not limited to full-on tongue kissing) will be somehow misinterpreted, so I think it'll have to come down to Miyoshi having an epiphany in some way, shape or form.
"Our Yuri Started with Me Getting Rejected in a Dream"
I got that reference xD
Wait wait, are they actually together?
Nope, Miyoshi is talking to Ayano the way you talk to your bff. In Japan, at least.
For a Japanese person, talking like that to somebody you're actually dating would be completely out of the question. Too embarrassing. But if your bestie calls you in the middle of the night, bawling about a dream where you didn't like her anymore, it's a-okay to swear eternal love to her and promise to make her your wife.
Also what was happening in the last page, I don’t really get it?
My educated guess is that Miyoshi couldn't go back to sleep after Ayano's call; so, lacking anything better to do, she called Ai and asked her if she would do for Chie all the things Miyoshi had claimed she would do for Ayano. And I'm guessing Ai said she wouldn't want to share a grave with Chie—prompting Miyoshi to immediately call Chie and rat out Ai as a fickle and disloyal lover. Lol, poor Ai. (⁀ ᗢ⁀)
Thanks for clarifying the situation a bit- I figured it was unlikely anything ACTUALLY changed in their relationship, that it was just one of those dreams that feels real (like when you're BFFs with some random person from your childhood, for example), but the dialogue and the big at the end with Chie and Ai threw me off, lol. I think your explanation is probably pretty spot on, haha- barring that, I'd like the think the author knows better than to have THESE TWO get together conveniently offscreen, lol.
You sure the whole mini wasn't written by Chad ? Lol
I asked myself the same. And I'm the Head Chad...
No april's fools today!
Wait, for reals? I was so sure it was a parody, especially with the unusual dialogue style...
Now I'm really hoping the author didn't just pull the same BS he did with Kanae and Haruka (i.e. having everything happen offscreen)...it was bad enough with those two, but for basically the biggest Ross-Rachel couple in this series, that'd be pretty inexcusable.
For now I'm just thoroughly confused. There are too many issues with this mini for me to even name...the ONLY way I can rationalize it is if Ayano dreamed they were dating and broke up, then called Miyoshi, who was too tired to remember they're not actually dating and just went into apologetic boyfriend mode on autopilot.
But then the whole scene with Chie afterwards seems really out of character regardless...maybe it was the author himself pulling an April Fools' type thing?

Wait was this a parody chapter?? I don't remember seeing the art elsewhere, but the cursing and general dialogue seems more like the end chapter jokes the Chads make...not to mention they're not even together (unless it was a dream within a dream? Dreamception??)...
LOVE the joke page- at least the Chads know what's up xD
I really like the closure (or the beginning thereof, anyway) between Shizuka and Kaoru. I think that's a lot of what bothered me about these chapters, and about Kaoru in general. There was no closure, everything was all convoluted and just...icky feeling. Maybe it's just me being autistic, but I can't stand when things are all murky and people are deceitful. I'd rather everyone just be honest and straightforward (as opposed to hidden agendas and cryptic one-liners- the latter of which Kaoru is the master). It makes me tolerate both her and Mask a bit more, especially with Mask openly complimenting Shizuka and voicing her respect of her despite undoubtedly knowing something of their history (I'm sure that's what she really meant by saying she was afraid to go the same way as Shizuka). I always feel like Shizuka gets demonized while Kaoru gets the 'Draco in Leather Pants' treatment when if anything, it should be the opposite (though ideally people would just view them both realistically).
Also, apparently Ena doesn't know about them?? I mean I guess I can see it in her past interactions with them- I doubt someone like Ena would be able to act so casually around them otherwise, I feel like she'd be the type to constantly worry about whether they were getting along, trying to act as a shield between them, etc., but you have to imagine with Kaoru's reputation it would be hard NOT to know. But I wonder if she and Shizuka kept their relationship more behind closed doors. It kinda feels like they did- even though Kaoru treated Shizuka like she did, she clearly treats relationships very different than her flirting.

I love the end- that was literally on my mind the entire chapter, I found myself being self conscious as I read and was like...what would this picture ACTUALLY look like? xD
Another super lazy chapter. Not even a real end. Until you reach the credits, that is.
Thanks to Chads for providing the missing punchline: this page should officially be the real conclusion.
You know, if you have such an issue with 'lazy chapters', why don't you just stop reading? You know, instead of adding a bunch of negativity to the comments section, where you can clearly see other people getting at least some enjoyment out of these 'lazy' chapters?
I genuinely like Kaoru when she's like this, genuinely cute.
But this is why her sister is better because she's cute all the time with moments of being a chad instead of being a vampire.
Lol same! These comics are the only time I genuinely like Kaoru. She very clearly loves her little sister, and even though she's mostly useless, as Honoka says, she's a really good big sister when it counts, like when she uses her wish for Honoka in the new year chapter. And we see in another chapter that Kaoru is (so far) the only truly loving and supportive family Honoka has- even the mother, while she doesn't seem neglectful, seems to compare her to Kaoru.
I loved the chapter where Elisha pushed Honoka into making her blush (for heat or whatever- it was a shameless excuse, lol). She was just channeling pure Kaoru (other than height and vaguel hairstyle, that's the only time I've really seen the resemblance between yhe two), proving there's just lady-killer blood in the Yamada family genetics.
This chapter is just dumb.
Guess KT was feeling lazy and just drew whatever in five minutes.
That's a bit harsh. It's just a slice-of-life chapter- that's kind of the point of the mini-chapters.
I actually like these sister-focused chapters with Kaoru and Honoka, no matter how plotless. These interactions are the only time I can find any like for Kaoru as a character, actually. I hate her as a friend and a love interest, but I love how great of a sister she is to Honoka, and just seeing their sister dynamic in general. Considering these mini-chapters never have much plot regardless, I'd actually personally like to see more of these two in them, since there's never enough for a full chapter and they're just little cute, funny moments.
Correct me if i'm wrong. But this is the first time we learn Yumimi's actual name, right?
I think so- I've been reading from the very beginning and I remember thinking it was kinda weird they all had names that ended like that (there's a word for it but it's escaping me at the moment >.<). It makes sense it's a nickname- I can't believe it never even occurred to me until now >.<
Simple but beautiful.
Also one of the best "Farewell, I'm over you" moments
I didn't like the look in Kaoru's face one bit.
I hope she doesn't take this as a challenge and targets Shizuka again.
Same. I really can't stand the amount of hate Shizuka gets here, but how conveniently everyone seems to forget that it was Kaoru who was the original 'big bad' (as bad as you can get in a series like this, anyway) just because they like how she interacts with Mask. Like...sure, you might think it's cute, but that doesn't erase her past treatment (and manipulation- remember how she stopped eating when Shizuka tried to ((rightfully)) cut her out of her life? TEXTBOOK manipulator stuff right there) of Shizuka. And it's ALWAYS bothered me how Kaoru got a thing for mask and then started acting like Shizuka was being some needy, clingy, jealous ex despite having spent the entirety of the manga prior actively trying to woo/tempt Shizuka away from Mio.
Shizuka is no saint, but let's not forget (any more than we apparently already have) that it's Kaoru who started all the toxicity.
And that look on her face, like you said...that REALLY pisses me off. Like, don't act like she's an annoying, clingy ex one second and then get shocked when she finally manages to move on from you. And I REALLY hope it was just shock- but the look in her eye in the previous panel (I believe it's a memory recall) looks a bit too calculating for my taste.
The ONLY chapters I even REMOTELY like/tolerate Kaoru, as someone who's been in a very toxic and emotionally/verbally abusive relationship in the past (and yes, someone did use that whole 'I'll hurt myself if you leave me' trick on me), are the chapters with her and Honoka.
She's a really good older sister.
But she's a shitty girlfriend and an even worse friend.
IMO, the best ending (though hopefully it won't come for a long time) would be Kaoru ending up alone. And not even because I don't like her, but because she's not the kind of person (at least not right now) who can have relationships without hurting their partner in SOME way. And that's just unbiased facts. I'm the same way- can't trust anyone- but I recognize this and take responsibility for it. Kaoru needs to stick to like, one-night-stands, or at LEAST be up front with the girls she dates (who SOMEHOW don't already know about her reputation). Hibiki's reaction made it pretty clear she doesn't warn them ahead of time. If not that, then I hope she AT LEAST keeps her attention on Mask, who is more than aware of her true nature (and has more than a few issues herself), and no more innocent, unwary girls. Not that Shizuka fits that category at all- again, she's no saint by a long shot- but just from who Kaoru's been shown to target outside of Shizuka in the past.

The only couples I care to see are nononon x yumimi, kanae x haruka and mahiro x mahiru. These couples are the most interesting to me.
Weirdly, same for me (almost). I also like Ayano and Miyoshi but I WISH they'd have some progress. I say weirdly because MahiMahi used to just annoy me. But the most recent chapter has actually made me stop and consider the pairing. How their differences are beginning to show and how one of them (it's sad but I genuinely never bothered to tell them apart before now, I'll have to check that- the one with the pink hair) was torn on the other letting down her hair, I think because she was both worried by and attracted to the differences.
And Haruka/Kanae would be my number one FAVORITE (or at least sharing the spot with Nononon and Yumimi) if it weren't for the way their whole 'confession' moment was handled. Entirely offscreen. To this day though I still hope maybe Kanae assumed Haruka meant it as loving her as a friend and MAYBE we'll get to see an ACTUAL confession sometime in the future. I also love their dynamic- pretty and popular Haruka ends up being the clinger to the more plain and previously friendless Kanae.
Nononon and Yumimi...I can't even put it into words, I just ADORE this pairing. I especially love when we see that Yumimi is pretty damn weak for Nononon herself.
Ya know, Nononon is still a sucker for Yumimi. But, after rereading the first Nononon x Yumimi chapter, after ch. 252, Nononon's horniness and obsession for Yumimi is turned WAY DOWN. They're a good ship either way.
The horniness in general has turned way down lol. But I get what you mean! They're actually getting to know each other outside the club, so Nononon is starting to get a little more accustomed to the teasing and is starting to reciprocate affection a little (LITTLE) more confidently. I love the pacing- slow enough to keep you wanting more, but with actual progress to look forward to in every chapter. It feels like it's going somewhere, albeit slowly, unlike OTHERS (cough*ayanoandmiyoshicough*).
I just love these two so much!!
I got so excited when I saw the tags for this one! These two are my favorite pairing by far, and it seems like every chapter is better than the last! I love seeing them meet outside club, and I've especially loved recently seeing how Yumimi lights up when she sees Nononon! Like, we see she's so half-hearted or bored with most things, but she does a complete 180 as soon as Nononon is around. I think by this point it's safe to say Yumimi isn't JUST teasing Nononon for the fun of it (although that's definitely part of it, lol)- her perspective chapters demonstrate that clearly enough. I also think Yumimi is aware of both Nononon's feelings and her own, and is slowly trying to make Nononon more aware that she's not just teasing (i.e. her arm around Nononon's waist as she walked her to class).
Speaking of, Yumimi was giving off serious boyfriend vibes (I know what I said lol) in this one- just her posturing and her body language around Nononon- and I'm 100% here for it!
This trope is a personal peeve of mine. Guy is in a relationship with a woman, or has declared his love for and is courting a woman, then he's caught being unfaithful. The woman is understandably angry because of his insincerity, but what's his reaction? He bloats with pride, shows a big shit-eating grin, and goes: "Hahaha you really love me, huh? You're crazy for me, huh? That's why you're batshit jelly right now, huh? Admit it, you can't stand other women around me and you're hopping with jealousy 'cause you love me so terribly! God, I'm such a WINNER!" No remorse, no guilt, no shame, he's just pleased with himself and happy that he hurt her. I dunno why some writers think this how a cool lead reacts in that kind of situation. I find it gross and infuriating.
And it looks like in fact the trope is not limited to male characters. You can make a female seductress rotten and conceited like that, and it's just as gross and disgusting.
I understand what you mean, though to be fair Kaoru isn't technically in a relationship with Mayoi at this time.
But I definitely agree with you that the arrogance is annoying. It just doesn't bug me as MUCH here because it feels like Mayoi is more on the same page, as opposed to Shizuka, who was sincerely in love with her. In that way I think Mayoi is a better match for Kaoru- I just wish Kaoru would be held accountable in SOME way for how she treated Shizuka, too. I WANT to like Kaoru, and she is becoming more likeable, but I just can't get past the fact that she's just getting away with past treatment of people because people like Kaoru/Mask, while Shizuka takes all the blame for the full mess despite it being half (if not more so) Kaoru's fault. It's a really annoying double standard in the fandom.
And yeah, it's definitely not limited by gender- although I'd love to see Kaoru get a taste of her own medicine like most of the guys who fall into this trope do. I actually think it'd make her more likeable as a character, but I'm starting to think she's never going to have to face the consequences of her actions.
I honestly put off reading this for a while, because I don't particularly like Mayoi and I really don't care for Kaoru. But this chapter was actually pretty sweet and deceptively deep. I'm realizing one of the reasons I dislike Mayoi is that in a way she reminds me of myself- insecure, constantly comparing herself to others, with a hidden nasty streak. I hate those things about myself and so I really don't care for Mayoi. But it took this chapter for me to put a finger on why I dislike her, and ironically, in that way this chapter also helped me dislike her a little bit less. Because now I can relate to her and understand how she's feeling.
I WANT to like Kaoru, or at least think she's being better. But the fact that she's pulled what seems to be a COMPLETE karma houdini when it comes to her role in Shizuka and Mio's whole storyline REALLY irks me. If there'd been some form of closure, or even simple ACKNOWLEDGEMENT by Kaoru that she'd played a big part in making Shizuka the way she is (bitter, jealous and emotionally traumatized) by the way she selfishly used her, I think I'd be able to start seeing her grow as a person. But just seeing her go about like she doesn't even THINK about how much she hurt this girl who's supposed to be her best friend just REALLY rubs me the wrong way. Even when she wants Shizuka to move on, she doesn't apologize or even attempt to explain or understand- she just tells Shizuka to 'go to her underclassman' and totally brushes her off. Which is a huge slap in the face when you consider how Shizuka went back to being friends with Kaoru when she didn't want to because Kaoru couldn't handle rejection and stopped eating until Honoka went to Shizuka about it.
I just can't get over that complete and utter lack of self-accountability. It disgusts me, having dealt with people like that in toxic relationships before, and I don't feel like I'll be able to see Kaoru differently unless the author addresses this issue at some point.
I love how Yoshioka IMMEDIATELY subverts the 'as a friend' misunderstanding, lol. To be honest, I'm loving ALL the trope aversions in this manga. It's just close enough to the stereotype to make it funny when Watanabe's expectations are averted, lol.
Okay here's my guess: Watanabe has an ex-crush or ex-girlfriend from middle school that she fell out with (thats who was texting her) and so she immersed herself in the world of yuri as a way of escaping and deflecting from her own sexuality, vowing to "never have a 3d love again" and so she's gonna try to distance herself from Yoshioka out of fear of loss again.
This is pretty much the conclusion I came to as well. I hadn't considered what part the girl texting her might have played (I just theorized she had something to do with how Watanabe came to be the way she is), but that definitely makes sense! You put it way more neatly and concisely than I did, lol xD But yeah, same theory here!
So, my guess is that this Mika girl is somehow related to how Watanabe became the way she is (like, seeing herself as a background character, not wanting to 'ruin' the yuri). I think the her wish was related to that as well- like, obviously 'the world' refers to the school and friends she's made. So when she says she doesn't want it to be destroyed, my theory is that in the past, something happened with this 'Mika' girl that 'destroyed' her world (i.e. school, friends, whatever) that's somehow traumatized Watanabe and made her compensate by casting herself as a side character and avoiding making friends/having feelings for anyone as a defense mechanism.
TLDR: I think that Watanabe's whole obsession with perfect, pure yuri and stopping anything from soiling it (especially when she freaks out about liking Yoshioka) is actually more about keeping herself safe from being hurt again by separating herself or putting up a wall between herself and her peers (seeing herself as a mob, for instance- I've actually coped in a similar way in the past, deciding I'd be a 'side character' to keep from being hurt again).
That's just my personal theory, haha.
I have a questions for everyone here. Right now, as it stands, who is everyone's top pairing?
Ties are allowed, but only between 2 couples, not more than that. Mine are Haruka x Kanae, Honoka x Elisha
And between them, if I was forced to pick, Haruka x Kanae but only marginally so.
Haruka x Kanae for me too
My favorite is Nononon/Yumimi.
It WOULD be a tie with Haruka and Kanae if their whole big confession conversation hadn't happened ENTIRELY offscreen. That kinda ruined it for me, since I love those scenes. So if I had to choose a tie, I'd probably choose Elisha/Honoka, just because of Honoka's character development and it's so fun watching her reactions to Elisha's affection due to being entirely unused it. And Elisha is so obvious in her feelings and PAINFULLY sincere, so there's not even the excuse that she could just be teasing (like there is with Yumimi- as a shy and extremely self-conscious girl myself, I can easily empathize with Ena there and can't blame her for assuming her feelings are unrequited).
It's just a fun combination, as is Nononon/Yumimi- I guess I just love the whole 'opposites attract' trope, lol.
