For being a manga about magical girls who are exploring their kinks, all of the main cast are surprisingly well developed. Like, the kinks are aren't their only defining character traits, and they're frequently used for plot development. If you tried to describe the series in one sentence, it'd probably sound like smut, but it's honestly one of the best currently active romance mangas...
Also, since I'm not sure I've seen it stated here, Akihiro-sensei's faces drive this manga so much. The fact it's a bit slapstick gives the manga leeway to make really exaggerated facial reactions, and so much of the tone gets set by the expressions in each panel.

I'm not sure I understand the dynamic here. I can understand the mangaka not wanting to be exposed, but why would the stepsister not be like, "Yo, love your work!"?

There's also Miko, who's the reincarnation of Prince Shoutoku. The canon's not explicit on this, but a lot of fans interpret her as trans, choosing to reincarnate with a female body.

Dynasty adds a white box behind the displayed image. It has a minimum height, so some of the pages that are short may look like they're not finished loading.

I really don't know where the negativity is coming from with this. There are a few chapters for setting up the new opponents and their intents, but then it's more playthings for Baiser.

Endless new characters

Since chapter 12 we've been introduced to 3 new characters... That's 0.1 characters per chapter... They're also not just the same baddies as before but more powerful. They're not evil like Lord, but they're not warriors of justice like Tres Magia. They seem like magical girls who leaned into their sexual side super hard so they have a different, yet unveiled path. I'm optimistic for where this is going.

chapters where nothing basically happens

Chapter 36: Introduction to the Shio-chans. They clearly establish themselves as a third party that will be antagonistic toward both Baiser and Tres Magia. We also see that Venalita speaks rather casually with Vatz, which is intriguing.
Chapter 37: Sulfur starts to deal with her developing feelings for Magenta.
Chapter 38: Relationship development between Utena and Sayo. Utena completes the part of her arc where she moves from being a reluctant pawn of Venalita to accepting the entirety of herself. The change had progressed over the series, but it was nice for her to recognize it herself.
Chapter 39: I think there's a ton of good in this chapter. First, we don't see much power creep from Berserga, which is great from new characters. I was worried about it at the end of chapter 35, but they directly stated earlier that berserk Baiser was a blob of magical energy that was caught off guard. Second, big-horn Baiser shows up right from the start instead of showing up when she gets excited/horny in the middle of a fight. I think this shows that chapter 38 wasn't just filler but an actual shift in Baiser in terms of her strength and motivations.

Looking at these four chapters, half of them have the Shio-chans either staying out of the way or actively supporting the interactions between the main cast. For new characters being introduced to an established setting, I think they're working pretty well.

I don’t know much about Touhou, but aren’t Maribel and Renko not from Gensokyo? Is this an alternate universe thing then since Aya and Hatate are there too?

Correct, this isn't accurate to Touhou canon. However, each Mugendai doujin seems to take place in a separate universe with the only constant between them being Renko and Merry love having sex with each other.

I really like how the other girls are taking turn to harass Kokeshi back, but she's just unfazed/turned on instead lol.

Ngl it feels limiting for the characters to be kids. Like I just wonder why they keep making such big stories with preteens. I've been enjoying it but the longer this goes the more they feel like they're 17 or 18 lol

I think they are about 16-17( apart from Alice).

They're middle schoolers.

I forget where, but Utena specifically states she's 13 (or something around) at some point. Thematically, the series is about sexual development, so it makes a lot of sense for the cast to be around this age. Physically, they all seem more... developed than that, though...

This chapter was just cruel. made me feel uncomfortable

It's the first one where we see threats of long-term damage with a "nipple torn off". I doubt that could happen from clothes pins, but it was another level of threat than what we've seen before.

This chapter felt a lot more villainous, in large part because Magenta's reactions were relatively normal, unlike Azul who enjoys it and Sulpher who fights back. It was basically just Baiser and Leopard abusing a kid.

I think Baiser works best as a brat trainer. I think the whole chapter wouldn't have been as cruel if Magenta had been asked for the true identities of the magical girls before Leopard started her torture. As it is, even though we know there's a higher purpose in Baiser's mind (La Verita), Magenta doesn't understand why she's being hurt.

^ Benefit of the doubt, it's a hint at what a good date option would be. More realistically, Kawayabug's Patchy is simply insane.

^ She's trying to hide her thoughts since Satori's a mind reader (hence the "empty"s). A non-jumbled reading of the blue text is, "Nice, it would be terrible if I were found."

Kind of a reverse yandere?

A yandere is really just someone obsessed with a person to an extreme (beyond reason) extent, so this is technically still a yandere. (Or maybe not, since the protag is suicidal and all, the "yandere's" forceful behaviour isn't necessarily excessive depending on surrounding-but-not-shown context.)

A "reverse" yandere would be like... someone who irrationally doesn't acknowledge that you exist... I think?
...Or would the "reverse" of a yandere be a person who's the target of one?

A yandere is one who obsesses extremely about a person, so the reverse would be one who is being obsessed with?

I really was flabbergasted. "Doki doki" as in the Japanese sound for heartbeats? In Latin letters? In a Chinese manhua!?

Keep in mind that these are the raw originals, not some scanlated version!

I can only figure that the author picked that onomatopoeia from Western websites dedicated to Asian manga... I mean, it's not uncommon for us otaku to use "doki doki" in our writings or fanart...

This isn't that surprising given some context. First, as you mention, "doki doki" as an onomatopoeia in romance manga is probably pretty commonly known. Second, the average manhua will know Latin characters with fewer knowing Japanese kana. It makes a lot of sense to use "doki doki" instead of ドキドキ given the intended audience if you're trying to play around with the trope.

Pardon me as I grasp at straws to try to figure out what's happening.

• Hino's and Koguma's chins are parallel with each other. I think this rules out a forehead check since you'd need a pretty sharp angle to make that position.
• It doesn't look like a kiss on the lips on close inspection. From how they're normally drawn, I'd think Koguma's lips would be just above frame, so they'd both have to be really puckering to get any lip action going. (Additionally, it doesn't look like either of their heads are tilted, but that's hard to tell from this image.)

With these pieces in mind, this might be an Eskimo kiss, though my best guess is we're seeing an imminent kiss with enough distance for Hino to stop herself or an environmental factor (e.g., Omichi calling) interrupting. Regardless of exactly how Tarou is trolling us, I think we'll see Hino have to start wrestling with her feelings for Koguma.

Is the last bubble translated correctly? In context, it seems like Riri she should be saying "her" instead of "me".

The character designs somewhat reminds me of Kurogane Ken. We'll have to see if the story devolves into an incomprehensible mess of everyone fucking everyone else.
