I’d say Kaoru is currently missing her husband; Uta basically fulfilled all of Kaoru’s needs (other than the sexual ones) and now Kaoru is realizing that she had a de facto husband alongside her de jure one.

The only displays of romantic affection from Reiichi I can remember are their date for Kaoru’s birthday and Reiichi trying to get a Christmas Eve nookie and getting turned down; for the former, he initially blew her off because of work, and even then, Reiichi only kissed Kaoru because she was practically begging for affection. Reiichi may be aloof, but at this point I’m inclined to believe he is completely uninterested in Kaoru despite caring for her.

Regarding Risako, I just can’t read her as malicious enough to want to harm anyone directly. My reading of her intentions lies more along “Kaoru and Reiichi are married, if they can go on to form a happy family and live happily ever after then that’s great. I’ll just steal Reiichi away from time to time for a date, or maybe even a small holiday, not like there’s much difference between staying late for work and going on a business trip anyway.”

Those two are clearly flirting, just look at all those empty handles and yet "somehow" Tomoko ends up draped all over Miyazaki.

It's her mom's uniform; I think we see her sleeping while clutching it early on and saying "I'm taking off" to somewhat recently. My guess is that she is gathering the courage to let go, hence why we see it stored in a bag now instead of hanging on a wall.

So, are we to infer from this chapter that Shimamura is conscientiously grooming herself to accept a deeper change in her relationship with Adachi?

We are reminded that she just can’t handle people or conversations, yet she closes the chapter welcoming change so slow that it goes unnoticed.

Regarding her attraction to Shimamura, I just love that she had to convince herself that she didn’t look up her skirt and still ended up accepting the label. I was honestly expecting her to ask Adachi if she had gotten a peek in herself to round up the teasing.

I don't think it's too much of a downer if we look at the title and Yumi's response.

Yumi says her feelings are platonic, but she doesn't put Kanako's feelings down and even gives a final hopeful note by commenting that there's nothing stopping her feelings from turning romantic.

The way I see it, her answer goes like: "If you need an answer right now, then no, I don't like you like that," or a "let's start off as friends" if they were strangers.

Like I mentioned already, the fact that they looked all lovey-dovey while doing it is the main factor here.

Not to mention they have been arriving at the classroom together quite often lately, usually with one or both of them blushing up a storm.

I find it funny that a lot of the drama we usually get in school life settings stems from this situation, with one or both sides worrying over where the line is and whether they should cross it. And then these girls just plow through it all, line be damned.

We even get the other couples' development as a contrast, with the girls acknowledging that there's no point in comparing themselves to these two.

So I was reading the tags and, upon noticing the College tag, I started wondering how far the series would go.

Will we someday see Adult life? Maybe some Science babies musings in an extra? After this update I can totally see Marriage being handled similarly to their high school graduation, closing whichever book it happens in and giving airs of a series close that makes you wonder if it really is over.
