A series in my opinion shouldn't limit it's self to just it's premise, but aspire to grow beyond it and into something greater. If it simply sticks to the premise then it limits it's self on where it can go, and it can become stagnant.

Sometimes it's fine for an author to stick to their premise, but I genuinely think this should branch out more and go past it.

I'm pretty sure that's what's happening and Yoshioka is the one leading the change.

It's fine that others didn't like the first arc of the series, I personally dearly loved it and still do. I don't like this second arc that the people who didn't like the first are enjoying more. Everyone has their opinions.

I'm going to stay hopeful that the following arc will be more like the first, and that I'll fall in love with the series again.

Man, I stopped reading this manga when that Shiho character appeared and thinking of picking up again, but after reading some of the newer comments I'm not so sure if I want to. She's the whole reason I dropped it and it seems like she's still an annoying character.

Personally I'm hoping this arc ends within the next 10 chapters, and they move on to something better than this drama revolving around Shiho.

The next 10 chapters is a third of what's already out. That's a hell of a long time on this arc.

Oh I'd love for it to be over right now, but it doesn't feel like the end of this arc is anywhere in sight unfortunately. So I'm trying to manage my expectations heh

I think Yori didn't want to do the kiss while feeling jealous more than anything...which wouldn't be really an issue...if she'd communicate how she really felt with Himari. I'd argue Yori could have taken a moment to say "wait, I need to say something", followed by a discussion of how Yori has actually been feeling jealous. Then if the mood is still right they kiss. Which would have been a nice way to get a good sense of relationship progress this chapter, but instead there's no kiss, and Yori is still bottling up her jealously...and it's unfortunately frustrating. Especially when I feel like the author is capable of writing good character communication. I kind of wonder if the editor stepped in and asked for more drama, but that's baseless speculation and only a thought of mine.

Well it is the same magazine as Citrus, which I know publishes other series, but it's part of why I said the bit about the editor in my first response in this post.

I mean, I guess? Maybe not the perfect time but Yori is worried about the relationship, she's concerned that Himi is spending too much time in the enemy camp and not enough time with her.
She also doesn't like that tangential rival girl might be landing some of Himi's firsts and Yori can't abide that.
A kiss at this juncture could be the thing to reaffirm their relationship and their intimacy and is something that Himi specifically asked for.
Sure, it won't solve all their relationship woes and they need to have the conversation (not the conversation™) at some point but at least a kiss in this moment could at least simmer things down.
Putting it off till a specific point of time gives it a chance to go wrong.
I feel like with fireworks like there's a 60 to 70 percent chance in manga terms of something else coming along and cocking the whole thing up. Better to have it done now while there is a bit of mood going and no outside interference.

Also, like, I'm sick of the whole I've gotta be the first mentality that I see all the fucking time in manga and anime and vns. It always has like a real gross kinda vibe attached to it like a chick or a dude who has already had a first is like a soiled rag.

I agree that the mentality around "firsts" is weird, but I also see it in Western culture and so fourth, the whole concept of Virginity and it's importance is big around the world. A factor in various religious and other beliefs, but I'm not going to get into that here. "Tore your hymen while you were just casually horse back riding? Guess you're a whore now", as only one example of the absurdity you'll see in the world. It's definitely a global thing and not just Japan with VNs/Anime/Manga and so fourth.

Also as I said previously, they need to have a proper talk before kissing. Which they could have done in this chapter, AND had the kiss after if handled well. I agree with "Epsilon04" about their mutual trust issues that need to be talked about first.

I started off loving this series, but I just can't like Shiho in the slightest. I took a break from this series for over a year just to come back and see the drama ongoing, and I think it's only getting more frustrating.

I know this might sound like a weird and totally unusual take, but in some ways this feels like we're dipping into some flavor of NTR. With the jealously Yori has over Himari being basically stolen away by Shiho, with Shiho "stealing some of Himari's first times", such as Himari's first time seeing band practice. Yori specifically says how she wants as many of Himari's first times as she can have, and is partly upset by this development for that reason. So it's a very weird tone and leaves a bad taste in my mouth, I know it's not exactly NTR but it feels like some flavor of it and I don't like it.

Also Himari asking Yori if her being a manager for the rival band is okay, and Himari apologizes for it, only for Yori to completely ignore that it was a great time to communicate how she's really feeling...so now we just have their relationship cracking behind the scenes...all of which ultimately comes from Shiho being a petty drama queen that's driving the plot in weird directions.

Edit: These thoughts are formulated from catching up last night, I just saw the 30th chapter and read it. Yori's jealousy and lack of communication continues to be frustrating and tiresome...and I don't even know if I'm excited for a possible fireworks kiss next chapter. Which is something I never thought I'd say...it's a weird feeling with how I really want to love this series and the characters.

I don't mind a good slow burn, I really don't, but tbh this manga just feels redundant, it's to the point I'm hesitant to read a new chapter cuz I know next to nothing is going to happen, it doesn't help that the chapters feel really short.

I mean, it goes with the territory right? The premise of this series is two friends have decided to actually follow through on the age-old “if neither of us are married by age xx let’s get married”. The fact that one has what appears to be an unrequited love [at the beginning] for the other just adds to it. I’m not going into this expecting a fast tracked romance. This is paced about what I expected from the premise.

Plus I mean they are growing closer bit by bit, trying to learn more about each other and so fourth. Finding various ways to communicate, and in this chapter specifically finding ways to be supportive.

Personally I think it's just lovely and I'm enjoying the build up, and when it slides more into a romantic angle it will feel really satisfying with how the author has built up the characters and their relationship.
