I'm very curious as to where this is going to go, and who these new girls are. Their designs are interesting, and they seem to be in the know here. As others have mentioned already this chapter has crazy art, often genuinely creepy.

Well this chapter was everything I wanted and more, I don't mind if the fireworks festival kiss is a cliche trope as it's almost always fun. The main thing for me here is the lead up. I felt like the complicated and messy communication was well written, and finally has them on more even footing. Where there's not exactly a perfect solution, same as real life often times, but now they're communicating about it.

Now that they've deepened their bonds and aired out their troubles, the kiss feels great. This is the first chapter for this series that I've really loved in a good while.

It’s struck me as weird all along that the author has overlaid a version of that Marimite/Strawberry Panic soeur school system onto an as-yet-vaguely-defined vampire culture/ecosystem, and I get the general impression that they may not have thought it all through completely.

I mean, it’s a good joke—the Marimite mentorship system in the service of training supernatural predators. But I’m not sure how much of it is supposed to be a joke.

So far I really don't think the author has thought it through, but I hope I'm wrong. The idea of students getting injured and killed being "okay" feels like a lazy way to write tragedy from what we've seen, and it makes me not care about the characters. Oh the adults that are normally supposed to protect the youth don't care about them getting hurt and dying? Guess I don't care either. There's a very weird disconnect. Maybe we'll learn more and the answers will be interesting, again I hope so. I do want to like this series.

OK, this is obviously a setting where the theme is all-important, so it feels churlish to talk about realism, but at this point I just can't look away from questions like, why are they just sending pairs of young teenage girls into the city to find their own, um, blood donors when vampire hunters are a thing? Even if they're supposed to learn how to do this stuff, shouldn't there be older, experienced, heavily armed vampires on overwatch?

I think you bring up a very good point here, the fact that they just let these teenagers go out into this dangerous world...or didn't have any alarms flagged for precautions when one was seriously injured recently...it's very strange to me. These injuries and this death feel very preventable when thinking about it.

I think that's part of the point: He was introduced in the same chapter as another teacher, who takes the effort to look kind and go through the motions of caring about Kanon's condition, but who isn't actually interested in her as a person. By contrast, Miura doesn't put effort into [i]appearing[/i] sociable, but he does care about his students and pays attention to their needs.

While that would be an interesting character detail in its own right, it also plays into broader themes about appearances being misleading and honest effort being, that focuses on people, being necessary. It's a less extreme parallel to Kanon's hearing loss being invisible and how treating her as a generic "deaf person" isn't the same as giving her accommodation or actually helping.

Makes sense, I'm just glad he didn't do anything bad. Sometimes authors like to surprise us by suddenly driving off the road and over a cliff, so I guess I have some trust issues :P

So this is continuing along the lines of my original hunch, that things are getting more dangerous for the vampires. Seems like something is going on with the hunters, so far it seems like they're planning and preparing to wipe out more vampires, but I'm guessing there's going to be more to it.

I don't know. Frankly, that one line about where she'd want to sit kind of blows that concept out of the water for me.

Considering how over the top silly the manga is in general I don't see why people are surprised that it goes into its sex scene with the same amount of silly gusto.

It's interesting that I seem to be one of the few, at least it feels like it, that doesn't mind the over the top dialogue and exaggerated expressions. I don't really think anything of it, having exaggerated and wild sex scenes just feels like the artist/writer is having fun making the scenes. That's part of the joy of comics and their creation for me. I also feel like calling this things such as "cheap hentai" and so fourth is an insult to the creator. Ah well, everyone has their opinions, so to each their own.

Edit: Also I think for me I'm not really concerned about the "quality" of the sex scene(s) for this series I guess...? I simply think it's nice that these characters I care about and have followed for so long have reached this point of their relationship.
