That literally only just happened this chapter and it honestly feels out of character for Nadeshiko because she's been so open-minded in every other chapter. Before now it's been perfectly reasonable to imagine our three main characters uniting in a polycule and fighting Nadeshiko's weird Dr. Wily mom lol

I have read the series, I guess I'm just conflicted because I can see a reality where an equal footing poly relationship between these three could work, but the more I think about the series the more it feels like the author thinks monogamy is the only way love works, which bothers me personally but alas

I don't really see that reality, Jun and Akane has never been on equal footing, Akane sees Jun as a little sister. Their relationship is closer to when Finn the human was crushing on Princess Bubblegum in early adventure time.

I feel with time it could progress to a point of equal footing, and Jun doesn't have to be always seen as a little sister. There's always paths to various kinds of endings and character progression, just a matter of time and writing. I think the author is probably going with a monogamous ending though, so it is what it is. I'm curious if we'll get at least some happy conclusion for Jun or not, or if we're going to rush to the end and she gets left behind.

The twist made this more fun than I was expecting.

It was pretty good. I thought the twist was reaching a bit--like, to pull it off they had to kind of stretch the credibility of the first part. I think it's actually hard to do a good unreliable narrator in manga. I mean, to me the thing that makes unreliable narrators work is that they have an implied audience that they have some kind of awareness of--they're telling the story, and they colour it in some way to fit what they want you to think. In manga, you've got a viewpoint character, but normally they're not telling you the story--they're unaware of the fourth wall. And so if a character's thoughts turn out to have misrepresented how things are, particularly if they misrepresent how the character is perfectly well aware things are (ie it's not that the character has delusions), to me that comes off just implausible, or borderline cheating, or at best just kind of clunky.

This twist was pulled off mostly by having the character not think about certain aspects of the interactions until it's time for the reveal, and it pretty much works . . . but it's a bit clunky to me, because frankly it would be really weird for someone's stream of consciousness recollecting events to be structured in that way, where thoughts about certain aspects of their relationship get delayed even though clearly as events happened they were mixed in.

So I'm not as wildly impressed as many here, but I still liked it.

I'm just grateful that this isn't Heavy Rain, Shelby is possibly the worst example I've seen of what you're talking about in media.

^I don't think Jessica qualifies as Yandere. Going into 1.2 story spoilers, She set up the whole horror story at Green Lake because she thought Jennifer would like it, as Jennifer loves horror. Jennifer got Jessica into horror stories when they were younger, via reading Jessica the horror stories that Jennifer wrote as a child. After Jennifer moved away Jessica mostly grew up in the woods with creatures, was experimented on for awhile, and her social skills are underdeveloped because of these circumstances. She likes Jennifer and wants to stay with her, however Jessica hasn't killed anyone that comes between them. Jessica locked people in her cave that she wanted to be her friends with, because she didn't understand why that's bad. To her the whole Green Lake affair was a childish game, because Jessica still has the social skills of a child. So I don't think she's a messed up Yandere in the slightest, despite her love for the horror genre, various mistakes with social understanding, she's rather pure at heart. What she needs is care and love, people that can help her social skills grow, and show her the greater world as she grows up into a proper adult.
