I didn't really get the 'paid dating' vibe at all. I just took the expensive comment as a joke.

It felt really obvious to me. Gals invest a lot of money into their appearance and are already known to partake in enko (schoolgirl prostitution/paid dating) to afford their lifestyle, so her cutting her nails (rip) + the comment is a pretty blatant implication. It doesn't help that the paying lady is an OL, as the stereotype is that office workers are the most common customer for enko.

And to support the non prostitute argument, I feel like gyaru wouldn't cut her nails short for someone she's being paid to sleep with, since the long bright nails are part of her gyaru aesthetic. Yeah, but by that token, it is also unlikely she would cut her nails for what is basically a one-night (day?) stand with a woman she just met on a bus station. That sounds far more unlikely than her being paid for it, to be honest. The fact she had to clip her nails to begin with shows she is obviously not a regular at using her fingers to satisfy ladies.

I think the prostitution angle was pretty blatant here. Regardless, it was nice and criminally short, lol.

Also, abuse or no abuse, chapter 8 made me intensely dislike the middle schooler. I guess I get ticked off by people being/trying to be controlling of others.

Mango logic at its finest, the girl who is in love with you walks out of the room after you reject her, you immediately realise you do actually love her back, but instead of, you know, getting off the bed and actually closing that 5 meters distance that currently separates you, you turn into a crying ball of angst. Has the main character never opened a door in her life or what? I do not get it, what is stopping her?

Does anyone actually see this as comedy any more? For me personally, it fails both as a comedy, and as a work depicting a character suffering from anxiety. It is far too cringy to be funny, but it also does not make me sympathise with Neeko. For some reason, I find myself considering her to be quite obnoxious. I suspect the reason is not actually the character, but the way she is being presented. Her symptoms are highly realistic, but the whole thing is told form the perspective of "hey, it is funny, lol". This tone led me to believe she was just lazy and spiteful towards people who were actually doing something in the first chapters, and even now when it is blatantly obvious she has severe anxiety issues, it still fails to make me sympathise with her.

As the cover page of chapter 2 said: "...painful but fun(?) slice of life comedy of a cute and useless NEET girl." It just does not work like that. Who knows, perhaps such a premise could be pulled off, but this work is failing to do so.
