This... is awesome...

As much as I don't want to agree with you...
This is pretty cool. But I'm a sucker for supernatural yuri.

Are you us? want to join us? We are one.

hmmmm. it's interesting, but I just cannot get into it. the chapters are exhausting. maybe I just need to reread them when I have more time and am less tired. :-\

Everyone is expecting the yuri that will never come...

N'taytay, dark cloud of unjoy, someone salt you up or are you always this negative?

better yet, lemme ask this... how do you know the yuri will never come? I mean, it's not like you have advanced copies of each chapter before they are released, or do you? how about this... between you and me, you're really Shou-san or are you just channelling Shou-san? no..no...no... I know what it is! you have special psychic powers and have foreseen the lack of Yuri. So really, you're helping all of us by letting us down easy so we won't be disappointed because you have had visions by channeling Shou-san with the advanced copies that have yet to be released for the Yuri that may or may not come to fruition. Right? Come on, you can tell us.

So... lemme ask again, how do you know the yuri will never come?

EDIT: I'm just ribbing you, but I am curious why you're so confident the outcome will contain no yuri. Care to share?

I get the feeling that Ran might be a closeted lesbian who's in love with Keiko.

I could not agree more. Now this is a bit of a stretch, but I also argue that Ran's attraction goes back to high school. For example, when she first meets Keiko-senpai, she is not afraid of her. If anything, she became very friendly with senpai and possibly developed a crush on Keiko way back then. Now this is my interpretation, and I would not be surprised if something to this effect is mentioned in dialogue between Ran and Keiko in later chapters.

On the other hand, Keiko herself is probably straight or unaware of her bisexuality, giving off a much more friend-like vibe - her touching Ran's hair and groping her generally comes off as innocent interest and admiration (that sounds so positive) rather than lesbian attraction.

Hmmmmmm, could be :-) But like many women, Keiko could just be going through the motion because society tells women that they are suppose to date and marry men. And yes her curiosity with Ran's body does sound like mild curiosity and admiration, but I think we'll start seeing more panels where Keiko's curiosity and admiration is less innocent and more focused, intimate.

I'd have to praise Shou for being able to handle the whole thing fairly delicately and realistically

IMHO Shou-san is one of the most amazing mangakas out there. While I adore Prism to this day, Stretch might be even better than Prism. Also, Stretch reminds me of a visual journal of two people's life. That said, I would find it very funny if we later find out that he based Stretch on the lives of real people he either knows or has come into contact with.

I doubt that she'll get together with Keiko unless she confesses or otherwise makes her feelings obvious. I may be completely wrong, or maybe it just won't happen. But man, do I wish that would it would. Rooting for them all the way, even if they're only just friends without romantic feelings for each other!

staying positive and firmly in the "they get together" camp :-)

So the Naruto manga is ending finally does anyone care?

meh, yes and no. it's been going on for so long, at this point it's more for the sake of a conclusion than anything else.

"Not sure if this news is old but, the first signs of Hirari web serialisation.
http://www.shinshokan.com/webwings/

Thought I'd point something out. Following the links I got to a page offering links to FLASH Wings at Yahoo Store and at NikoNikoSeiga. At Yahoo Store, http://bookstore.yahoo.co.jp/free_magazine-154442/, I readily found The Princess's Mirror and The Princess's Lie and was able to read them.

However, they will only be up from 9/28 to 10/27, so if anyone wants to see them, you'd better look at them soon. Of course I don't know what the posting period of the other two current chapters will be. Or when or how long new chapters will be posted. But this gives me more solid hope that new chapter will indeed be coming out.

if they are keeping new releases up on a monthly basis, hopefully they have or will add an archive page so readers can go back and reread "old" releases.

I'm not a touhou fan, but damn that was funny.

and the lesson here kiddies? know thy partner... or was it practice makes perfect?

Nah, the lesson is don't suck.

figuratively or literally? cuz if literally, I must object! figuratively? OK, back to my questions above ;-)

I shall leave this as an exercise for the reader.

that is very judicious of you :-)

on a different note, I adore the artwork here. it is so vibrant and the drawings look (to me) like they are drawn in a different style from the other Irua release from Thursday.

Always odd to find this type of questions let's see...No Candy Boy(and the spin off)?, Poor Poor lips, Sisterism(for the fun), Shoujo holic, Anything with the Nanoha x Fate or Eila x Sanya tag. Seriously you're better off slowly searching through all the yuri of the site.

I liked the Candy Boy spinoff better than the original series, really. And Shoujo Holic, I think was already mentioned.

As to the doujin stuff, I read it as the OP looking for self-contained series rather than fanfic.

Always a great one-shot to come back to! Light and sweet :3

yeah, Kurogane-sensei is in my top 10 list. his works always tend to be fun and cheerful. actually, I don't think I've ever read a sad or depressing Kurogane Ken story. does one exist?

haha yeah sometimes I ship random girls I see at restaurants together(I'm not weird!!!)

aww shit i do that too (i'm extremely weird)

no more than the rest of us.

but outta curiosity, what's the weirdest pairing you were able to see/come up with?

lol I just wish there was an IQ/aptitude test requirement to have ANY kind of power.

sounds like a good idea, but there are too many dumb/uninformed politicians and that would leave too much power in the hands of a very few.

Hey gimme some credit I made 2 out of the 3! I didn't make a manga thread cuz everything I read is already here anyway...well except for bleach which I still don't know why I bother with lol. I watched the Neuro anime...I got bored half way through haven't watched since, I like the ending theme.

I totally gave up on Bleach once Aizen was done with and everything had settled down, because that's where the story naturally ended. Everything after was a tossed-together second series that just happened to have the same characters, but I couldn't be bothered being invested in it.

As to Naruto, there's only so much Sasuke a person can withstand.

Nez, you have no endurance. however you are right. Bleach has meandered to the mundane, but it's still OK and Naruto. Ugh! too many volumes, so little money. what's a girl to do?

don't get too excited people. there is still enough dry gunpowder left for the more homophobic and conservative elements of the US to blow the US supreme court's decision/non-decision to kingdom come. I'll feel a little more comfortable once the 2 other lower courts of appeal give their rulings. that said, I worry most about the good ol' South fuqqing things up. there is a lower court that handles cases from the Southern states. if that court's decision does not contradict the other lower court decisions that have been passed in favor of same-sex marriage, then it will pretty much be a done deal. of course, someone could always introduces a constitutional amendment just to be an ass.

At this point wouldn't it seem a bit of a genre change if they became a couple? At first that's what I wanted, but as I read on it just seemed less and less likely and I'd rather preserve the essence of the story rather than just fanservice. Then again, maybe I still wouldn't mind the yuri...

wah? on this i respecfully disagree. IMHO, it would make more sense if they became a couple and I do not see it as a change in genre. i say this because what we have been seeing for 26 chapters is a slow progression of their friendship from simple roommates to something more akin to family. that said, it is not a far stretch (pun intended) if their friendship progresses to the romantic. why? because we have been presented with coy glances, blushing, cutsie offhand comments... i argue that these examples are the foundation of a relationship. nothing fast. nothing topsy-turvy. just a nice slow progression. that said, if they never become a couple, then that is also ok because they would have a very strong, loving, non-romantic bond which is equally as valid as if they were a couple.

I don't necessarily need this to be yuri. I'd be fine if they just stayed close friends. Yuri is never unwelcome though.

bah, Shou-san just needs to finish this series in all of its subtext glory then release one or two after stories/epilogues or doujinshis where the actual status of their relationship is made clear. this would allow him not to alienate either his Yuri or non-yuri audience.

on a different note, now that Shou-san is repairing his reputation, I really freakin' really wish he'd revisit Prism and continue that story. I keep wondering, what is stopping/would stop him from doing so?

also, I will ask this of everyone: to what extent are readers such as Dynasty and scanlators to blame for the failure of these publications? does any blame exists?

"Blame" is the wrong way to think about this. These publications are/were entirely targeted at a domestic audience, and English translations won't have a meaningful impact on that.

fair enough. this is why I present the overall question as two questions. the "does any blame exist?" part takes into consideration that by and large the publications are not targeted towards foreign audience and no "blame" should exist.

On the other hand, these are commercial publications, and their decisions are based on sales figures. Publications are folded if they don't sell well enough; conversely, if one genre sells better, then you'll see a proliferation of publications following that genre.

very true. this is one of the reasons I think a digital presence is and will be the future of the genre (actually the industry) as a whole.

The common refrain to the "scanlators are to blame" argument is to say that, "If companies wanted to sell more yuri to English speakers, they should publish in English," but this is actually beside the point—I'm not talking about what companies want, I'm talking about what you as a reader want. Specifically, if you want to see more yuri being published, the solution is to buy more yuri. If you don't, well, nobody's forcing you, but you can't really complain then when publications are folded.

agreed.

that said, there's something about reading a paper book that phones, e-readers and tablets can never replace. if anything, we all should be mourning the death of the paperback.

Good ol' Abe is considering to move up the sales tax to 10%.

yeah, I've been reading about that. kinda sux because on one hand he's trying to jump start or continue the jump start to the Japanese economy which will be good all-around, but on the other hand the inflation created will make nonessential items more expensive.

EDIT: mmmmm business, politics and manga, it doesn't get any better than that :-) but on a serious note, I'd love to see the reincarnated version of Tsubomi or Hirari active by next year which I think is totally possible. I went back and reread the comments on 7th style and realize (as has been stated above) that the "mainstream" anime/manga fan base sees Yuri as an accent; however, one particular comment caught my eye... "whatever turns a profit". those are dangerous words that have been known to either recreate or destroy an industry. as I have said, I don't think the genre is dead, and wonder if this might be good overall.

@adamatari, all good points which is why I am truly hoping that an online version of Hirari/Tsubomi comes out in the following months. however, what would need to be different to keep it from failing under the weight of being in a "small niche" and not being "wide enough"?

also, I will ask this of everyone: to what extent are readers such as Dynasty and scanlators to blame for the failure of these publications? does any blame exists?

well, enough musing for one night. night all.

Honestly, I'm pretty upset taht they are obviously gonna end up together. Nana is....pretty damn awful...like really fucking just terrible. Was kinda hoping this was gonna end like that other Takemiya Jin one shot that came out where the girl fell out of love when she realized how crappy the girl was.

OK, explain this to me. how is Nana terrible and awful? I've read several post where she is being called the devil if not worse, so what makes her awful?

yuri is dead...
sigh...

Yuri is not dead! how we are currently getting it is changing. at best, we are all witnessing a consolidation in the anime/manga industry with the same amount of yuri content. at worse, we are witnessing a contraction with little to no yuri content. but after reading some of the links, i am not as worried as i thought i would be given that web comics and like-minded online sites will most likely pick up the slack.
