There really is nothing in the manga that hints at romance 'tween them.

Last time I checked, the readers' poll put Sakurako x Himawari in 1st place as favorite ship, then Chinatsu x Akari (which I find hilarious).
Kyouko's votes were divided roughly half for Kyouko x Yui and half for Kyouko x Ayano. If you added them, Kyouko x [whatevership] would be 1st place.

IIRC in the first Discworld novel (or one of the first), the explorers would point at places and ask the natives for the names, and then put those names in their maps, and that's how they got Valley "That's your Finger Stupid", Mount "It's a Hill, are you Daft?", and so on.

Taiyaki has stated that she intends for this series to be long-running, and given it's a very unique premise that's being taken very seriously (would normally be the butt end of a joke or running gag in anything else, or at most a hentai) I could see it gaining a lot of traction overtime as there's really nothing else like it, even if a lot of that traction is due to morbid curiosity.

Although, if this forum is any indication, the bulk of the followers will be people who actually have a real interest in the series. We have in this thread about a hundred commenters who love Taiyaki's work, and only two worthies who claim they read it out of morbid curiosity... and one of them hasn't been heard of since they slapped a ban on him for bad etiquette. I'm certain that most of the Japanese readers will be real fans who sincerely appreciate the basic premise and the serious, original way the story is being handled.
