Oh hell. A non-crass analingus scene. Asagi-sensei has upped the ante this time for sure... ::fans self:: Ahem.

Anyway, I detected no lack of emotion, on the contrary, I thought Aiko's longing and hunger for Fuuka was very effectively conveyed. It was a happy, no-drama story of two girls who like each other and get together. I'll partake of as much of that as you can give me.

Another masterpiece from Morishima, just as expected.

Yeah, he's still around, plugging away at Yuri Danshi. Which is pretty weak when compared to the rest of his work.

More like a massive and horrendous waste of his incredible talent, and it can't afford to be wasted. The shelf-life of many, even most, yuri artists seems to be sadly brief. Sometimes we only get a handful of oneshots (if not even just one or two), and if we're lucky we'll get two or three anthologies, but all too frequently they eventually disappear forever.

For me, Kurata Uso was one of yuri's brightest shining stars for a while, and to think of the time and effort put into YD which could've been put into more stellar works of actual yuri...it's sad to think of.

This is one of my all-time favorites. I absolutely love the amazonesque delinquent/tiny nerd combo on display here. But with all due appreciation to Wings of Yuri, frankly, this particular translation is...extremely rough...I'd love to see this one redone at some point.

I did and it is.

Thank goodness. I was really worried the artist was going to continue to duck having to show them as a real couple...

Yes, it was the OVA, although I'd say her manga version is even more violent and unstable. She was watered down in the TV version, probably due to its much more comedic slant. As I've said before, the manga is much closer to the OVA in tone.

She's nuts alright, and I agree that I don't see how she doesn't get thrown out for stunts like this - except of course because she's the designated "villain". However, what ultimately ends up happening with her is....hmhmhm...something you almost certainly won't see coming. I sure didn't. Look forward to it.

This manga makes me crack up just because of the outfits

It's pretty par for the course for Urushihara. With that said, Chirality and Plastic Little are still nostalgic favorites of mine.

Chirality is one of my all time favorite pieces of yuri. Ragnarok City is also fine, but it's more of a slice of life, whereas Chirality actually had a fairly well done plot that successfully mixed sci-fi and romance. Sadly some of the only pieces of yuri Urushihara has ever done. How I wish he'd do more someday.

Vol. 1 is licensed by Seven Seas.

Indeed. I've changed the Volume 1 heading to say so.

Fun stuff. I would've loved to have more of this, perhaps with different experiments every chapter.

and some stories are just sex without any kind of romance at all. (This chapter amongst others.)

That might be true for this one chapter, but this is only the first chapter of a serial which I hope will prove to be yet another example of what I'm talking about.

I might have gotten involved in the yuri scene way later than you have, but I very, very seldom find elements like those in what I read.

Believe me, you did. When I got involved in the yuri scene...there was no yuri scene. :P That's fine though. Welcome, and feel fortunate! There are many, many more wonderful stories and works to enjoy now than we had in the years (and years and years...) past. It's natural that you would have a different view.

I feel that I can afford disliking stories even if they're void of sexual elements I dislike and the girls get together.

Of course. Who said anyone would automatically like a story just because it got over those two very basic hurdles? A story can fulfill those basic requirements and still be bad, boring, or annoying. Even so, I find Asagi Ryuu's work quite enjoyable in general. As Phyis said, it might only be porn, but it is above average on the whole.

Read ~Maiorita Tenshi~ if you want some Blue Drop that's less soul-crushingly depressing.

Asagi Ryuu's a bit of a one trick pony isn't he. ALWAYS big boobs. ALWAYS age-gap. ALWAYS scissoring. ALWAYS watersports. And not one bit realistic at all. I'm getting tired of reading his stuff what with the lack of imagination/dedication to his fetishes.

You might find it tiring, I find it wonderfully reliable and consistent. I know what I'm after when I read Asagi Ryuu, and it is always faithfully and dependably delivered:

A) hot, beautifully drawn yuri sex which invariably grows into a happy romance, where the sex is
B) mostly vanilla with a pleasing emphasis on intimately direct body to body contact - fingers, tongues, and tribbing, instead of toys, which I find impersonal - but enlivened by
C) a seasoning of harmless fetishes, some I like ("body size gap" would be a better way to put it than "age gap" in this and several other cases), some I regard as a guilty pleasure (saliva trails), and some I merely tolerate (watersports).

In a world where reading yuri all too often contains unpleasant surprises, whether we're talking bad relationship endings or sexual elements that you didn't want, I value Asagi Ryuu's work for always being what I expect it to be.

An incredible waste of 23's amazing talent, and an unpleasant surprise when I first read this a long time ago, considering his Pixiv is (thankfully) devoid of futa. What I wouldn't give for some stories of the married adult yuri pair he habitually draws.

I could do without all the constant mentioning of of being sisters, its almost like this manga is trying to be psuedo incest.

Uh, that would be because it is.

Wait, there are yuri-oriented shorts? Which ones?

None with any real yuri, but Morita-san wa Mukichi, Yama no Susume, and Aiura were said to be yuri friendly, I think. I don't actually watch shorts though, so I couldn't say for sure.

I never, ever skip the OP and ED. They are sacred parts of the anime watching ritual. :P

and simoun too, the manga i read don't fell anythings alike what you all tell about it

That's because the Simoun anime is entirely different and much more in-depth from the short manga series on this reader. That's really almost just a teaser for the anime, though I dearly love it as well.

I thought there were only 2 YKK OVAs?

There were two seperate OVA releases, one in 1998 and one in 2002-2003, each with two episodes apiece. Thus, four episodes in total.

Someone suggested the "Rape" tag for this, but it wasn't really indicative of exactly what happened, plus some people might've (not unreasonably...) assumed it was Konata raping Kagami, so I created a new tag, "Foiled rape attempt", for situations where a character was in that situation but was saved from it. Hope that's okay.

You watched a 13-hour anime series in one sitting? Thats....a bit...uh....

Leaving aside the obvious, I can't help but think that's sort of a shame. Simoun is one of those shows where it's best to watch one episode and give yourself time to think about it before going on. With shows like that, even if I have all of it available to me, I'd probably only watch one episode a day at most.

Still, I an understand your fascination. As I once wrote regarding it, "The hallmark of a truly captivating enigma is when you feel as though if you contemplated it just a little longer, a little harder, you could pierce the veil and gain some true insight into the heart of the mysteries. Simoun makes an art of creating this feeling."
