So all that buildup is just over? They've made up inbetween chapters or something? Feels a little weak to me

The series is structured as a series of short 4 page scenes that together tell a larger story. Every chapter is set some span of time after the last, with whatever happened inbetween left up to the reader's imagination. No chapter thus far has directly picked up where the last left off.

This is the format the author has chosen to tell the story. I can get the complaints that people would like to see more of what happens in the interim, but at the very least the format shouldn't be a surprise at this stage.

I'm cool with it too.

But yeah I laughed. Oh yeah just "friends" sure we believe you LMAO.

But yeah too sudden for a confession yet.

If anything I think that the uh forgot her name Aya (gal who frequently goes to record store) that she may be the ome to confess later on. It would take part time (I'm bad at names) record store girl by surprise and it would be funny to see her reaction. Lol like "OH, OH so that's what that was. Flirting? Never heard of it."

Well, Aya knows full well she was flirting, she overtly referred to it as a crush, and Mitsuki knew it was flirting. She overheard Aya talking about being in love with "Onii-san" and referred to Aya's advances as "romance" and "forward" She knows Aya was hitting on her. What she DOESN'T know if Aya will still be interested in that sense now that she knows that Mitsuki is a girl.

I think it's pretty clear at this point that Mitsuki is in love with Aya and knows it, and Aya's still got lingering feelings for Mitsuki, but might not know what they mean yet. They have to establish a new status quo before either of them can start to zero in on how the other feels.

(Also the parallel between these reactions is not coincidental: )

I'm fine with the friendship thing as long as it's just a step and not the end :p

Considering their relationship this far, it make sense for them to start by resolving the immediate issue and take it slow rather than just rushing into things. Remember that Oosawa was feeling kinda "betrayed" by Mitsuki the past few days (or weeks ?)

Yeah, if she went straight for the confession here, it might push Aya away. It is definitely baby steps, but that line about craving more isn't meaningless, either. She's had a taste now, I'm betting the crush is gonna flare back up in earnest.

But you've now got a strong desire to sing "You've Got A Friend In Me" at Karaoke?

Seems like there should be a more rockin' ode to friendship but I can't think of anything.

Friends will be friends, Queen, 1986.
(I'm sure there's a grungier option too, but Queen dominates like 30% of my musical brainspace.)

Is this like, a "you haven't heard Shakespeare until you've seen Hamlet in the original Klingon" thing?

Pretty much. Though that Star Trek kinda sucked overall.

WE CAN NEVER BE FRIENDS.

(I'm kidding)

I wonder if they'll go to a concert on a date... seems like they kinda have to.

Yeah, I'm wondering how far the author wants to pull this out. I'm kinda hoping that now that they're past the initial misunderstanding, we get an arc building up their romantic connection. I know a bunch of people were hoping to dive straight in, but I think asking to be friends first was the right move.

Radiohead is cool and all but it doesn't compare to the original Prince version of Creep - https://youtu.be/42-RBnhiYkA

I feel like one of them is due for a makeover and I'm not sure which. Let's see how this "friendship" goes...

Has the author mentioned at all how long they expect the series to be? I could actually see it ending soonish with them being friends and not getting into a full romance.

I would personally find that an extremely unsatisfying ending.

I wouldn't worry about it. The author's twitter art is riddled with unambiguous lesbianism.

It's always so nice to see a story featuring a good parent.

I’m not much into the “who’s good/who’s bad” approach to reading manga, but in this case I’d qualify that as “a parent who finally stops getting on their non-compliant child’s case.”

The mom is pretty clearly the source of much of Hinako’s insecurity:

https://dynasty-scans.com/chapters/crescent_moon_and_doughnuts_ch03#2

But she definitely is stepping up and doing the right thing now, of course

Yeah, that's fair. I just mean somebody who is confronted with the fact that their child isn't typical, contemplates that for a second, and then comes back with "Well as long as it makes you happy." After so many stories where the parent is just stubbornly bigoted through and through, especially the ones where they make themselves an active obstacle to their child's happiness, it's always nice when we get somebody who's like "Y'know, actually nevermind, I need to accept you as you are."

All Apologies by Nirvana

(doesn’t fit at all but take the joke lol)

She could tweak the lyrics to be less sarcastic, I guess.

P.S: Mitsuki could go the cheesiest route and sing “Iris” by Goo Goo Dolls. The lyrics fits so well.

Nice pick, but file it under "only if this is an intentional romantic confession."

There were tons of schmaltzy love songs in the 90s, but finding one specificallyfrom the grunge scene that says "I fucked up I'm sorry" would require more focused knowledge than I have. I'm sure one exists, though. Singing an apology song to your girl is a common trope because it's a near universal as a behavior from any musician. Plus their playlists feature artists over a few decades anyway.

I can’t think of any 90s music/band (I still see Foo Fighters etc as 90s. It’s burned into my teen years sense memory) that had love/apology songs. It was an age of angst and anguish.

I mean, Nirvana has a couple. I just mentioned Love Buzz as a joke, but it honestly wouldn't be a bad pick IF the message she wants to send is overtly gay, but there's also heart-shaped box, about a girl, and a few others. None are really apologetic, although she could also adapt the lyrics, tweak a line or two. The audience wouldn't know it, but Aya would recognize it immediately.

We playing bets on what song she's gonna sing? Maybe the song Playlist that she sent her.

I doubt people there are expecting a whole set. Remember this is a festival variety stage. It's gonna be a song, maybe 2 if she gets an encore chant, but she can't depend on it.

I see 3 possibilities.

1) original song
2) a song that is somehow special to them. It COULD be something from the playlist, but for just one song, something more specific would have better impact. It could just be something with apologetic lyrics.
3) We don't get the song at all, because the focus of the scene is Mitsuki making a public display of bearing her identity and apologizing, (maybe even confessing?) and the song she plays is incidental to the unspoken emotional interplay between the characters.

So Luoluo and Song Li have finally kissed in chapter 63. I honestly haven't seen a burn this slow since Sasameki Koto, and that one was in the 2000s. :'D

Ever heard of Ouji-sama nante iranai? :D

No, but having looked it up, it sure looks intimidating, by sheer size alone. O__o

It's the slowest of burns, a smoldering, if you may. But it's also really good imo ^^

Pssssh. Read Lily, then you can talk about the slowest of burns.

A mom has band-aids on her at all times.

Proper mothering right there.

I know, right? Like, how is that even a question?

Anybody else kinda feel like this is reminiscient of Tamen de Gushi?

Um, not really at all? Maybe the tiniest bit in the character designs, but Sun Jing is a boisterous slacker tomboy who aggressively pursues Qiu Tong, who isn’t a gyaru, but a rather shy high achiever.

Where do you see the similarities?

High school romantic comedy webcomic about two girls, one cool one girly, discovering their sexuality, punctuating the current drama with fluffy hops forward on the timeline to reassure the reader that "Yeah, don't freak out, they're totally gonna end up together, they're just not there yet."

I think in that case the author started with the spot illos of the two of them obviously together (I especially recall a slinky bar scene with the pair up close and personal) before launching into the extended “will they or won’t they?” getting-together narrative.

So those forecasting scenes were less sops to the reader about where the story was going than the originary visuals of the character designs. (There was at least a flash-forward Christmas scene of the two of them living together, but that happened after the two of them became a couple in the main narrative, IIRC.)

Well, it's mostly that they would jump ahead of the current storyline for the "holiday" episodes, whenever they happened. Pretty sure some of them were made before the characters actually got together in the main story. But yeah, I mean, I wasn't saying they're exactly the same, just that I was feeling a similar vibe/mindset. Like, here you have this author who has a clear idea of where these two end up, and the storyline is kind of them exploring how they get there.

Also what happened to her fingers? Is she biting them?

Nah, she started playing guitar. Remember a couple a chapters ago where her uncle bought her a guitar to cheer her up?

Not in the sense of learning it- not sure if you mean that or not. She's been playing guitars for years but this was her first brand new one, so i guess she really got into playing it.

I have no idea how it works since I am a bassist, but it looked like she only had an ACOUSTIC guitar (ch.8 ), and this is her first electric one. The strings are made of different materials as far as I'm concerned, so the transition might be this painful.

I'm pretty sure the implication is that before this, she learned to play a bit on her uncle's guitar, but never owned one of her own (he said as such) and she's probably practicing a lot to get good for the purposes of a romantic gesture where she plays for Aya. Hence, she's playing a lot more than she has previously, and doesn't have her callouses built up yet.

Yay the mom's back!
I hope this whole 'I like her face' thing is a roundabout foreshadowing that she's gonna end up dating Chiaki's cousin.

I wouldn't mind some oyakodon either tho

I mean, she has some, but are her boobs big enough for Akira?

https://dynasty-scans.com/chapters/sekai_de_ichiban_oppai_ga_suki_ch61#10

Well, Akira doesn't actually seem to be that picky about size. Or....anything, honestly. I mean, one of the first things we ever saw her do was try to bait Chiaki into a mutual grope. That means small breasts and incest-gropes are both on the table for her.
