What a pleasure it is to read a non-porn thing from Mira. Not that her porn things are bad, of course, but her writing and sense of humor is enough to entice me into reading anything she writes even if they lack random sex scenes.

That's why I'm so hung up on this story. If Mimika had the same character, performed the same, and simply had her gender flipped, I would still think it's a good story. I probably wouldn't be as interested in the story, but I'd still support his relationship with Mimika as it stands now. But that support would crumble the moment he crosses the line, and I put the same onus on female Mimika.

it gets me that a lot of people rooting for the story as it is would never give boy!Mimika nearly as much sympathy.

I know that I definitely wouldn't give boy!Mimika anywhere near as much sympathy as I give actual!Mimika, but I do have to (reluctantly) agree that the story would still be just as good. I would not touch such a story with a ten-foot pole, but I would probably think of it as a good story if I ever decided to read it. I think it's kind of similar to Kodomo no Jikan. Now, I've never read/watched that horrible thing and I never will, but, from what I hear, it actually is a pretty realistic take on... pedophilic relationships... now, assuming that's correct, I am still never going to read it just because the protagonist is a dude. I mean, even if she was female... but, I mean, I guess I did read Hoshikawa Ginza District without any hesitation so I guess I wouldn't.

As for that whole issue of "crossing the line..." I can't say that I feel the same, really. I would certainly be disgusted to a certain extent if actual!Mimika crossed the line, but if male!Mimika did that, I would drop the series then and there. If actual!Mimika did that, I'd most likely continue onward and still support her. Is that wrong? Probably, but, well, at least I can acknowledge that I'm pretty irrational and hypocritical. If this were a real-life relationship, I would definitely not support it under any circumstances, but since it's fictional, well, I guess I would regardless of the circumstances. Not really sure how I started to think this way, but I suppose it is how it is.

Also if this was het and Mimika a guy, wouldn't it make things more awkward when he would want to touch Yuzumiri, just like Mimika feels now?

This is the litmus test I use for yuri. If the protagonist (or love interest) were male, would I still agree with their decisions? Would I still be interested in what they're doing? Would it still be a good story?

In many cases, I can confidently say "No. Definitely not," but, honestly, I don't really care beyond just the acknowledgment that I'm a huge hypocrite. Take yuri incest, for example. I sure am glad that YuruYuri's Akane got gender-swapped because I would not want to read a story with an incestuous older brother. But... since it's an incestuous older sister, it's all good. Same goes for Candy Boy or... well, this thing.

Not really a Kotori x Honoka fan but it was well done.

But - pet peeve in the first bubble. - come with. Drives me nuts! You can't just say 'come with?' and stop there - it's come with ME! right? or 'you didn't have to come too'. But to say come with, is very bad / incorrect English - or is this some Americanism I'm unaware of?

I usually say "come with me," but I'm fairly certain that many of my fellow Americans frequently just say "come with." Correct me if I'm wrong though which I probably am.

Toaru Kagaku no Railgun and the Kuroko one is Toaru Kagaku no Railgun Gaiden: Astral Buddy

Oh hell yes! Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think I've heard before that Railgun was supposed to be a Kuroko spinoff... before they changed it to a Misaka spinoff, of course. Misaka's cool and all too, but a full-fledged Kuroko spinoff would have been so much better... as great as this is, I can't imagine it'll be that long seeing as though it's apparently a spinoff of a spinoff. Hopefully, I'll be proven wrong though... you can never go wrong with more Kuroko!

The manga of Railgun shows a lot of interaction between Misaki and Misaka, solving crime together working as team... So yeah, they get to know each other better but yeah initially they hate each others A LOT

I've only watched the anime (and just Railgun at that, not interested in watching an anime with a harem protagonist), but is that... Misaki? I thought her and Misaka hated each other? It probably isn't, but, well, am I glad to see more yuri in more mainstream works (if it actually is). Poor Kuroko though...

Did they actually introduce a legit love interest for Kuroko or is this just a joke? I think her getting a girlfriend would singlehandedly convince me to read the entire light novel series... yeah, Kuroko and MIsaka would be better, but, well, I'll take what I can get.

If I'm not mistaken, she killed Mami in one of Episode 10's alternate timelines. After the magical girls found out the truth about their soul gems, Mami went berserk and killed Kyoko. She then tied up Homura and was about to kill her too before Madoka intervened with an arrow to the soul gem.

Soooo, would anyone mind explaining what happened to Ymir? I'm interested in Yumikuri but not nearly enough to actually read AOT. Also, is the yuri dead if she actually took over that... guy's body? I guess it'd still be Ymir, but, still, canonizing the ship after Ymir takes control of some dude's answer seems like a massive copout to me...

These bloopers definitely made the whole series a lot better. I can excuse some of the more overdramatic parts now that I know that it's all a movie or whatnot.

Crap, I wasn't expecting that kind of spoiler for Life is Strange. From what I understand, though, I hear there are a few different endings, so I'm hoping there's a good end in there too... well, at any rate, I need to get around to playing that game before I get spoiled any more. Wait what?? Am I glad that I don't read the manga now... well, there are a host of other reasons, but this is another one to add to the pile... uh, so what happened to her anyway? I thought she hasn't showed up for like 2 years, so did she show up just to die or was she killed off-screen?

I was eerily close to finally getting into the Love Live craze and playing Love Live but... my phone keeps shutting down when the Launching Application screen thing is at 99%, so I guess it's not happening. I am kinda sad since I did want to give it a try but at the same time... whew, I sure dodged a bullet there, I surely would have become just as addicted to this as I become to every other game I play (unless there's a way to fix it, I suppose, in which case I'm just delaying my inevitable destruction).

Edit: Now that I'm reading a bit more about it, it's probably just 'cause I don't have enough storage. Ah, the woes of having a shitty 4 GB phone.

Well, I guess it's more THAT scene that might cause problems as opposed to Saikawa in all her yuri glory herself. I don't really have an issue with it, but I can certainly understand why some people do.

I'd give Kobayashi a 5/5 Heavily Recommended to all Yuri fan's.

think its an easy recommendation to anyone, not just yuri fans.

Also, got some friends that rarely watch anime (most cuz they hate what anime usually is) that watched and loved it.

I'd like to recommend it to some of my friends that rarely watch anime, but there are two big problems with it that are preventing me from doing that... namely Lucoa and Saikawa... aside from them, I'd say that Kobayashi's actually relatively tame in terms of overtly sexual content, but I don't know how they'll react to these two characters in particular.

Tomorrow I'm watching Kuzu No Honkai, It's not going to be fun.

I just watched it last week during spring break... it's probably not for everyone, but I loved it to pieces and I'm eager to see what you'll think of it when you finish it. :)

When I first saw the title and the tags, I initially thought this thing was the promised sequel to that other You doujin... I'm somewhat disappointed that it wasn't but I'm not at the same time since this was a great read. Kind of a confusing read too since I never watched either of the LL anime but, well, I got the gist of it. Not really interested in LL cause it's apparently not that gay, but I heard Sunshine significantly ramps up the yuri levels, so maybe I'll give that a go sometime.

Soooo, I'm not sure if I'm allowed to discuss anime from a loooong time ago in this thread, but I'll try it, I guess... if anyone has any problems with it, I'll stop immediately. Maybe it'll be more fitting in the Cafe thread? If so, I'll move it over there.

Finally got around to watching Strawberry Panic! I always avoided it 'cause I heard it was overly melodramatic, but I've learned something from watching and enjoying Kuzu no Honkai: I freaking love melodrama. Not really seeing any melodrama in the first two episodes, but I suppose it'll show up sooner or later... that or I just confused it with another yuri anime. Anyhow, it's not really blowing me away in the same way that the first two episodes of KnH did, but I suppose that's to be expected considering that this is far less serious and far more cliched. I'm definitely still interested enough to continue watching it. The animation and music isn't really up to par, but... this is from 2006, so it's certainly understandable. That ending song surprised me since it showed (what I presume to be) the actual MV as opposed to animated stuff like all the other anime I've watched. I guess that's just what they did back then?

I'm going off on a tangent here, but I really am super glad that I got to watch Your Name over spring break. After watching that, I decided to start watching some het romance, which is what compelled me to watch KnH. KnH got me to watch Strawberry Panic, and now I'm on a quest to watch all the yuri classics that I never got around to watching. KnM, Kashimashi, Simoun, Mai Hime, probably some others I forgot about, anything but Maria-sama, here I come!

One question though: is it better to watch the anime, read the LNs, or read the manga?

D. Va is definitely my favorite character for one reason and one reason only... 'cause she's Korean and I'm Korean. She is the ideal to which I aspire: it is my hope that I will one day become such a skilled and famous professional gamer that I'll have the privilege to serve as a mech pilot in the glorious Korean army and kill a bunch of people/robots. But, seriously, while I agree that her voice lines are cringy and obnoxious, I view them as charmingly cringy and obnoxious as opposed to annoyingly cringy and obnoxious. Kind of an oxymoron, but that's how I see it that's all up to personal interpretation though, of course.
