none of the insanity-driven physical violence or murder

Tsukiko had Youko's family killed so that Youko would be forced to live in her home and serve as her maid.

Also, since when did yanderes need to be violent? It's about degree of obsession, not methods. See https://dynasty-scans.com/series/koharu_no_hibi as a perfect example.

Hina was fine. What ruined the story was the super rushed ending.

This chapter was so great. xD
It was really short, though, and felt even shorter.

I feel that way every chapter. I crave those few chapters each volume where we got spoiled with a whole 18 pages.

I really like this manga. I get such a strong impression of who Yukari is from even this short story.

Just from this single episode, we can see that Yukari is so insecure that she's actually self-obsessed. She's so worried about herself that she doesn't really notice how other people feel, and she's so desperate for affirmation that she ends up using people. It's funny too, since she even realizes that's she's self-absorbed, but that's it's just one more flaw for her to obsess over.

Then, the next morning, at first she seems pretty freaked out, and tries to pretend it didn't happen, continuing to act without zero consideration for anyone else's feelings. Finally, she realizes she hurt her friend and tries to act decent for the first and only time in the story, and after that she just accepts the situation she's put herself in.

Overall, I get the impression that she won't say anything to her boyfriend but will beat herself up about how she fucked up, if only because she knows she should feel bad about it. She'll continue to cheat on him and continue to tell herself what an awful person she is, without ever truly realizing that this is a decision she made, and continues to make. She'll never even consider the fact that she might be hurting her best friend by sleeping with her.

I hope the maid finds out why she was really mad at her. That’d be interesting to see. Also, does the other maids getting fired imply that they found secret files of themselves or the MC? Does the master go through different maids often from them discovering her secret, her getting tired of them or her just being paranoid. And that one maid knew of this and still sent the MC to her room. Was that maid trying to get rid her to have the master to herself like she did with the previous maids or is she just really confident they won’t mess up? Hmm...

I think you're thinking too much about it. Tsukiko has obviously been after Youko for a while, since she arranged for her to fall into bankruptcy and had her family killed. If she's had maids fired for looking through her stuff, it's probably because she has this closet full of stalker shit that would potentially incriminate her. Part of a maid's job is to clean rooms, so the other maid was just sending her in to do her job as is normal.

Hosting a group's scanlations isn't "associating" with them. For example, if I'm "associated" with dynasty it's because I come and talk on the forums. The presence of my translations here is irrelevant. Dozens or perhaps hundreds of random sites I've never heard of take my translations, and I'm not "associated" with them.

As for 8chan, the situation that led to them removing their work from dynasty is the result of some of the most absurd pettiness I've ever seen, escalating from a minor complaint because people (here and there) got worked up into a frenzy over nonsense. The credits page, the removal of said credits page, the retaliatory trolling, the attempted compromise breaking down because of some hysterical "let's show them!" attitude; it was one of the most comical internet disputes I've ever had the pleasure to witness, and I've spent a lot of time combing through Wikipedia talk pages, so that's saying something.

Rejecting scanlators because some people who visit the website they use are Nazis is even more ridiculous. What does that even have to do with manga, or yuri, or anything? At least the previous dispute was directly related to something in a manga release and the resulting disruption on the forum.

But more importantly, let's put this into perspective. This is about unlicensed manga translation. Not political endorsement, or even purchasing a product. You aren't taking a stand by criticizing or boycotting them. They lose nothing by your refusal to read their works. It's just a pointless gesture.

I think it's interesting that Kaede is always visually associated with eating or food. Whenever she's on the page, she's munching on something. I wonder if this is some kind of symbolic motif that means something in regard to her character.

I swear one of these days they're going to come out to their friends, and everyone's just going to be like "Yeah, and?" "Wait, you thought it was a secret from us?"

Maybe so, maybe so, but at this point I personally would put my money on shocked squeeing.

I don't think this crew could resist at least raised eyebrows and indirect teasing if they thought something was really going on.

Yeah, these three goofballs wouldn't be able to keep it a secret if they knew. There'd be endless teasing.

Wow I want to strangle that bitch right now. She got the idol chick fired/depressed to the point of quitting so that her own career can skyrocket.

If you think she did it for her career, you're reading this wrong. She did it because she wants to own her.

I think Satou needs to die for the story to make sense. It's just the natural course of events for a tale like this. Maybe she'll get caught and go to prison, maybe she'll end up on the run and unable to ever see Shio again, hell maybe Shio will die (I think that'd be the cruelest ending for Satou), but however it happens, this is just the kind of narrative that almost always ends badly. All the signs of the last few chapters point towards death.

While Satou has been preparing, subplots set in motion by her earlier actions were building up in the background. It looks like she might get away with it, but the framing makes clear that she has less and less control over the situation. Meanwhile, Satou herself has been changing. Nothing else caused her the slightest bit of regret, but her murder of Shouko has been weighing on her. Her crimes are catching up with her. The stage is set, the players have arrived, things are coming to a head. That apartment has been her sanctuary, but its protections are fading, her pursuers are almost there. There's going to be a showdown in her castle, and it won't end well for her.

I don't want this to end exactly like the anime, but my problems with that ending were mostly the details and execution. I think the general concept is simply the natural result of this kind of story, and of the details of this particular example.

Why do I relate with both the "she's a great mangaka" and "she's the worst mangaka" commenters? XD

Anyone who can say, "I really like writing trashy characters, but my publisher puts a limit on how trashy they can get, so I made this doujin to show off a truly trashy character. But she ended up being less trashy than I wanted. Oh well," is someone who I don't think would mind being called "the worst mangaka ever". Who knows, maybe that's even her goal.

It's like fortune-telling. In real life, fortunes only are relevant to the extent that they're so vague they could "predict" mutually contradictory events. Or perhaps the especially credulous use these fortunes to drive their decision-making, thus lending some real significance to them.

But in fiction, authors can use and abuse prophecy to drive their plots. I recently read a fantasy novel, Starless, that does this worse than anything I've ever read, and I've read more than my fair share of trashy YA fantasy, which is especially guilty of this. The main plot of the book was based entirely on the characters reading a prophecy and then using that to decide what to do next. When they weren't sure what to do because the prophecy was too vague or pieces were missing, they went to visit an oracle to get some more prophecy. They were able to save the world not through bravery, or cunning, or the power of friendship, but because they followed the instructions as written on the side of the box. It was an incredibly boring story with zero tension.

I don't think I've ever seen zodiacs or blood types used that way in a romance, thank god. I can imagine it: Characters A and B are coworkers/classmates/acquaintances. A learns that today is B's birthday, and thus learns her astrological sign. A's fortune for that day said that she would fall in love with someone of that sign. She tells this to B, who is suitably impressed, and the two of them decide they should start dating. As suggested by the stars, as soon as they get to know each other they realize they're perfect for one another.

That would be just terrible. It would completely ruin the entire point of a romance story. Usually, fortunes and zodiacs and blood types are used just to give the characters something to talk about, so it's not that big a deal. Maybe the author uses their own ideas about how astrology and blood type inform a character's personality, but as long as it's kept in the background it's not something the reader has to deal with.

Yea, because nobody ever tried to apply it to real people.

But while in real life Zodiac signs are meaningless bullshit, in fiction they can actually mean something and be relevant.

They could make it into those "train with me" videos? But with stretching.

Exactly. They'd have to really amp up the sex appeal of the comic to make it competitive.

I'm trying to imagine how that would even work. I guess if you made it a 3min anime like Teekyuu? Still, it'd be pretty boring.

I feel like Sana doesn't even like Kaya, she's just exploiting her as a maid to clean her room and cook food every weekends. I can totally see this eventually devolving into them living together and Sana stops working and just leech of Kaya for the rest of her life, which is probably why Sana even bothered softening up to Kaya in the first place (and I say softening up because I won't accept that last 4 page as "her way of apologizing").

Not to mention that "truth is I remember our first movie" crap. I'd understand if she said she 'remembered' but she worded it as if she never forgot about it in the first place which is bullshit because she has no reason to pretend that she forgot about it on last week. No reason unless she doesn't love Kaya as I theorized of course.

Christ. That's fucking dark. Where the hell did you get this idea? Obviously she remembered but was too embarrassed to say. Just look at the way that scene is framed. There's a reason her face isn't shown when she's saying that line. Also, Kaya obviously knows that Sana does remember and is just putting on a front. Look at her face!

Sana is a "practical" person who is bad at dealing with emotions. She wanted to see that movie and didn't invite Kaya because she knows that Kaya doesn't like that kind of movie. She signed up to go on that trip, but she knows Kaya has work on weekdays so she didn't invite her (but she's planning on bringing back manjuu to share with her—she was just bringing that up when Kaya smacked her in the face). These are perfectly rational decisions, but Kaya takes them poorly because she has unfulfilled needs in the relationship.

This is not a depressing story about a horrible abusive relationship. It's a tale about two people who have a minor disagreement about what their relationship should entail. Notice how Kaya doesn't voice any of her frustrations? She doesn't even tell Sana what she expects from her, she just hopes that Sana will somehow know what to do to make her happy. Sana isn't refusing to accommodate Kaya's needs, she just doesn't understand what they are. And then, when Sana does figure it out, she makes a gesture to show Kaya she gets it. They aren't stuck in a toxic failure of a relationship, they just have normal problems with communication, the kind that exist in every relationship.

Yeah I don't see this relationship if you can call it that lasting a long time.

Argument->accommodation->makeup sex is a powerful cycle that can keep a relationship going for a long, long time.

There is het at the beginning of Citrus.

Okay. I forgot about that one (I don't particularly care for Citrus so I barely remember what happens in it). But the other 7 are basically straight yuri romances. Unless someone's going to complain that YagaKimi starts out with Nanami rejecting some guy. The majority of yuri anime barely have male characters at all. My point is that there isn't some prejudice towards only adapting stories which start out as heterosexual romances. Those (Netsuzou, Kashimashi?) are the exception, rather than the rule.

I was wondering. Why is it only manga with HET beginning get adaptation?

You seem to be ignoring every other yuri manga that's been adapted. Does Citrus have a "HET" beginning? YagaKimi? Sasameki Koto? Aoi Hana? Strawberry Panic? Tachibanakan? Valkyrie Drive? Sakura Trick? No. They don't. And that's ignoring the countless yuri-adjacent manga where men don't even appear to exist, like Yuru Yuri etc.

She indeed says that, but the full sentence is "since I started dating you, you're the only one", as in, she is the only one she has sex with, which is an odd thing to say to someone with whom you are in a formal relationship, since that is usually taken for granted and sounds rather suspicious to bring up in the first place. I would wager the word "dating" was used in a far looser meaning here, simply indicating they were seeing each other.

To be perfectly honest, I am kind of puzzled why people see their relationship as a serious one, apart from this one word (which was used in a sentence that as a whole does not really point towards a romantic relationship) and the tears at the end, we have no evidence whatsoever they were anything more than sex friends. Their critical lack of communication (on both ends, not just Seo's, as I detailed in my first post in this thread) also points towards this being more of a casual thing.

つきあう is the word Kyouko uses, and it's the same word she uses later on when she assumes Mitsuko was seeing Yamada. It is a pretty flexible word. However, that isn't the full sentence. Kyouko isn't just saying "I haven't fucked any men since we started doing this" out of nowhere. She's giving that as an explanation for her previous statement. "I don't remember how having sex with a man felt, because I've only been with you since we started seeing each other."

We don't have much to go by, but Kyouko appears very comfortable around Mitsuko. She acts as though she puts a great deal of trust in her, and cares about her enough to show her her true self, which she hides from others. She could be lying to and manipulating her, but that's not what the story is trying to tell us. If she was just a lying cheater as Mitsuko assumed, then the last page wouldn't make any sense. There's a reason the last image is Kyouko crying with "I don't understand women. I don't even understand myself," written over it. Kyouko's tears prove that Mitsuko was wrong.
