So what does Baiser mean in Magia Baiser’s name?
So far it looks to me like either kiss or Meringue which is a sweet dessert that is beaten stiff. Both seem to work in their own way.
In french, Baiser either means (as a noun) kiss or (as a verb) fuck.
I suppose the author went for kiss, but given the manga I'm not 100% sure.
I would think that the author's intent would be one of these two: 3 or 4
1.[Kiss]
2.[Fuck]
3. (vulgar slang) to prevail over someone, fuck, screw
Synonyms: avoir, berner, enculer
L’enfoiré croyait m’avoir, mais je l’ai bien baisé.
The asshole thought he had me, but I screwed him.
4. (vulgar slang) to break, deteriorate
Synonym: casser
En forçant sur l’écrou, j’ai baisé le filetage.
By forcing the nut, I broke the screw thread.
Or a combination of the two... to prevail over someone and break them...

fun fact, the manga industry is legally allowed to shut down any series that doesn't include at least one scene where a girl is jealous of the size of another girl's boobs
Learn something new everyday. Didn't think a manga could go bust over something like that.
Bravo! Well played!
Iro-chan knows her tropes and is well prepared.
And these two useless lesbians should just kiss already.
I agree to both points, except in the official publication, sadly, they must be referred to as "Failed" lesbians... :(
Alright so now I'm pretty sure Izumi was intentionally trying to gaslight Fujishiro out of jealousy and not just in deep denial about her own feelings and projecting.
Yep. I was pretty sure that was the case before. Now it is certain. It's a bit sad, since these four make a fairly strong group of friends and Iro-chan doesn't seem to be an actual romantic rival for Kanade's affections. It's also fairly clear that Izumi doesn't feel she has a shot at this point. She is better at reading the room than either of the useless ones...
I am an I-cup.
Plus, I don't hate the story for personal reasons. Nanaki nad Kanade do not look cute together. Their constant arguing makes me sick. Plus, I ask myself with every chapter why they have never thought how good their lives were before they got "together"?
EDIT #2: I don't like abandoning mangas before end. Unless the plot just screams "absurd"
looking at you, I'll cheer on my Onee-yuri" or sthBy what standards? Japanese? They always go one size farther than most of the world. Either way, my condolences to your back.
They barely argue. You complained about them every single chapter for superficial reasons like "Oh no, Kurokawa is trying to improve her looks, but she shouldnt do that." or "Fujishiro is just in a different world, you don't belong there." Sounds like a very personal experience to me.
And now you make the ridiculous argument that they were better off without each other, even though the plot entirely contradicts that. Like I said, you don't get the story. Kurokawa wants to improve her looks. She enjoys it. Fujishiro doesn't need friends who backstab her or are mean to someone she likes. Kurokawa lost her clique of friends who were just as superficial as Fujishiro's. They raised each other up, brought out the best out of each other and clearly have feelings for each other. Only someone who ignores everything that has been happening could deny this.Abandon things you don't like. You are just frustrating yourself.
I entirely agree with BugDevil's analysis of the two (useless) protagonists. It might also be noted that Fujishiro thoroughly enjoyed the manga she borrowed from Kurokawa earlier in the story, even if she hasn't become an otaku over it. They have both shared their interests with each other and benefited.
I saw worse rushed endings, this one was actually okay. And hey, I'll never complain about polyamory, you can share your taxes by 3, is almost a necessity in todays society depending were you live (I am just half joking here)
Polyamory is not legal in the majority of the world though and will give you no tax benefits. :P
That would be Polygamy, not polyamory. Polyamory merely means that the you feel romantic love for more than one person. You can't legislate people's feelings. Polygamy would be marrying more than one person. There ARE places where that is legal, but it is usually not of the type presented here. (Most cases are patriarchal with the man having multiple wives being legal. These are mostly in Africa and Middle-Eastern and Southeast Asia. In Europe, Australia, and both American continents polygamy is fully outlawed.)
However, in the country of origin for this story, same sex marriage isn't legal either... so they can't get tax benefits if just two of them marry, so WTF does that matter?
Also, why should tax benefits matter in matters of the heart? What is MORE important than tax benefits, in my opinion, are spousal rights in the event of hospitalization and things like that. Especially if the families of one's partners don't approve of the relationship, it can be difficult if one of the partners is injured and hospitalized, because blood relatives can deny non-married partners the right to visit the patient in the event that the person is unconscious. So you can end up with situations where someone's estranged parents take control of their care when they are ill instead of their partners they have been living with for years. That is where legal recognition would be valuable, not in terms of tax benefits.
As for the ending of the manga... I felt it might have seemed a little rushed, but only the poly ending AFTER page 35. Don't get me wrong... I LIKED the poly ending. It just seemed like it was tacked on and a bit rushed. What about Senpai? You ask... She pretty much made her bed and is lying in it... Her manipulative ways led to where she is. I thought there might be some glimmer of hope for a relationship between her and Kou, but that hadn't really been developed at all in previous chapters so it would have been a real stretch if it was tacked on in the final chapter.

So is Tsubasa transgender. That’s what I’m getting from this? They want to be called Tsubasa outside but her brother isn’t allowed to use that name inside.
No. Nee-chan means "Big Sister", which is what her mother wants her brother to call her. She doesn't want him to call her that outside of the house because she looks too masculine and it confuses people when he calls her that in public. If she were male, her brother would call her Nii-chan or Nii-san. Tsubasa is a name that is neutral in terms of gender, it's used for both boys and girls, so it's not like it's a name she's choosing to use because she doesn't feel comfortable as a girl and by the way she reacts to the offer to learn about fashion and makeup it's pretty clear that she's not really against embracing her feminine side.
I'm not sure why there is this wave of demi-romantic heroines in yuri manga lately... but it's not a bad thing at all. (Yue from "Bloom Into You" being the most prominent one.)
This is one that I hope gets serialized...
this reminds me a bit of the classic Milk Morinaga's Gilrfriend's
Short and tall girl, check
Well... there are other Morinaga stories with this trope, but "Girl Friends" isn't one of them. Mari and Akko are just about the same height, with Akko being a tiny bit taller. There is a taller girl in the story, but she's not one of the protagonists.
There are plenty of other tropes here as well:
Athletic girl and bookworm
Flat chested and "full figured"
etc...
I think this author is doing well on their own.
So short haired girl is jealous and decides to jump in between the two of them on a date, which is precisely what it was. (And she probably saw Shizuku invite Saki to the fireworks at school...) Then after messing things up for her at the festival and making things awkward, she tries to put moves on her?
So... did she actually kiss Shizuku or did Shizuku push her away before the kiss happened?
The obvious solution here is for Mio to intervene and bring them together for a meal.
Hmmm... I wonder if they don't want the two useless ones in THEIR way?
Well... if that isn't one of the finest chapters in manga, I don't know what is! Excellent writing, gorgeous art, and amazing emotional depth. AND, Touko played the cheesecake card!!!
Ya know... I wish the mother would grab the dad by the ear and force him to his knees and remind him who he's actually married to, showing the true dynamic in the family. (I just feel like the seemingly meek mom is really a dom...)
Take a hint, you useless lesbian vampire!
I know you're all having fun reading into the black backgrounds but just my two cents, they were simply an odd aesthetic choice. they're on every page except the last one, pretty sure she was just trying to emphasize how it was dark outside/set the pensive mood.
that being said, this volume was re-released in 2018, as well as her first anthology collection Kimi-Iro Shoujo. If you're interested, you can purchase it here: https://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/4758078696
Why should you buy it? Well, it includes a totally new oneshot as well as bonus content for this story :) i could be tempted into buying and scanning it despite already owning the original release, if i knew it would help support the author...
I'd love to know what the bonus content for Shabon is, not to mention the new oneshot! If only I could read Japanese...
Interesting development... Izumi is hard to figure out. She's either in love with Fujishiro or trying to help Fujishiro come to grips with her feelings for Kurokawa. It's clear that Fujishiro didn't quite buy her "even friends do it" bit at the end of the last chapter, especially with the way she linked their fingers after the stealth-hug attack. It totally got inside her head making her wonder if Izumi has the same kind of feelings toward her as she has toward Kurokawa. In reality, I'm thinking that we might have a strange form of irregular love polygon here.
Izumi ---> Fujishiro <------------>Kurokawa<-------------Iro

Nobara asking Yukino to dance is a definite sign of progress I'd say! Especially with the way she forcefully shut down her childhood friend/brother figure when he asked her to dance. And Haizono-senpai is usually pretty, but with her hair not braided and her glasses off, she's a knockout!
Talking?
Preposterous! Not in my yuri manga!
No just yuri manga or even just manga! It's an outrageous concept in any romance story. How on earth does the author propose to write a romance if the characters communicate? It will just be all "This disagreement happened, but we talked it over and it wasn't that big of a problem because we really love each other and a little communication makes all the difference... so no big..." That doesn't sell magazines! Where's the DRAMA!?! The PASSION!?! The MAKE-UP SEX?!?!?!?
So far the story is meh. I liked Prism, so I expected something more. We're still in the begging though so who knows.
It's basically a cute girls who happen to also be vampire story. You know, when them being a vampire is just for extra points instead of having a plot around it.Also I don't understand why she didn't just brainwash someone else to kill her instead, if she wanted to die. Feels more like a plot hole
She started to explain that there was an additional requirement for the sword to kill her. Probably something about Ichika's bloodline, since she implied something about her grandmother and the sword right before Ichika confessed her love to Aria. It might also require her to be a virgin, which would mean that she's the only living person capable of killing her with it. Or it might require that she love her, but Aria didn't know that yet, so it's probably not that.
The problem is why Midori doesn't remember the period when tsugami was flirting with a boy? and where is the boy? we don't see the parents at the funeral either.
It seems Tsugumi left the town where Midori lives after middle school to move to where her parents live. I'm guessing she was living with her aunt during middle school for some reason, probably because of her parents' work. So Midori never met the guy who knocked up Tsugumi, since she had Haru when she was 17, well after middle school, and it also said that Tsugumi never went to high school. I do wonder if it's more that she dropped out of high school because she got pregnant, though. It's also mentioned that her parents disinherited her for some reason. Whether it was because she got pregnant at 17 with a boy they didn't approve of or because she divorced her husband and they didn't approve of that, we don't know yet. It's very clear that Tsugumi didn't want anything to do with her parents though.
I have a theory, but it isn't pretty... But it would explain why her parents weren't part of her life after she got pregnant...
Come on, like senpai really forgot that she was the one who rejected Chidori. She's manipulative as fuck. How can she expect forgiveness after ending on such a bitter note before? I don't understand her end goal.
In a sense, Igarashi never actually rejected Chidori. Chidori confronted her about the fact that she had a boyfriend and she didn't deny it. Then Igarashi tried to get Chidori back on Valentine's Day. We don't know whether she wanted her back as a side piece while she was still dating her boyfriend or if she'd decided that she really wasn't into men and wanted Chidori, but it was too late because Chidori couldn't trust her after she dismissed the concept of them being together because they were both women and didn't tell her about her boyfriend in the first place.
But, in truth, Igarashi was never the one to do the rejecting. It was Chidori.
Hmmm... I feel like I'm among the last people to notice this, but...
Hana ni Arashi
Ig**arashi**?
Oh, I didn't even think about that. Her name is even spelled with 嵐 in it.... Kovachi Luka's being cute.
The name use on the cover is Nanoha to Chidori tho.
Every cover has はなにあらし written across it in huge letters, and then "Nanoha to Chidori" (in English) as a kind of subtitle I guess.
Well... "Hana ni Arashi" can be translated as "Flowers after the Storm" or perhaps, like the title of Chapter 47 coming up, according to the table of contents listed in Chapter 37, "Flowers after the Rain". I would say that is the main title and that "Nanoha to Chidori" ("Nanoha and Chidori" if you are translating it) is the subtitle.
I'd say that the only association between the title and Igarashi's name is the fact that she brings a "Storm" (Arashi) to Chidori and Nanoha's relationship.
As for the "Liar" at the end, the words being recalled while they held hands: "We should really discuss things and make decisions together." are Nanoha's, so I suspect that is Chidori remembering Nanoha saying that to her and thinking that this is really something they should discuss, but Nanoha is the one who shut down conversation about it, saying she wasn't worried. So I'd say it's either Chidori thinking that Nanoha is lying about being worried or Nanoha lied about wanting to discuss things together like this.
This manga seems interesting, specially that Nikaudo girl, but I won't get my hopes up yet... Maybe is just all subtext .-.).
Well even if it is just subtext as long as there won't be more bullying I'm okay with this :D xD
Um... you do realize that this is a serialization of an existing web-comic that has 36 chapters and has gone far beyond subtext, right?
Not having any spoiler info, before I read that first post I was guessing that her "friend" who betrayed her wasn't really pregnant and had actually slept with and told her ex that she was pregnant in order to get him away from Mayumi because she was in love with her but never had the guts to actually tell her how she felt. The part at the end makes that even more likely.
I suspect we'll find out that Mayumi has a history of same sex attraction dating back to college or something...
I mean, the mom walked in on them on top of eachother in bed. And then asked her daughter if she was "doing something bad?"
She's a real bro though, having her stay the night and making them take a bath together. I wanna believe her inner monologue immediately jumped from
Oh my god my daughter has a friend. A girlfriend!
to
I've gotta help my awkward daughter get laid!
I'm thinking of a commercial for some product... don't even remember what it was... but the tag line was: "Kid tested, Mother approved!"
There are some pretty ominous chapter titles coming up and they go right along with the line from the end of Chapter 36: "No flowers bloom without passing through a storm." So we have "Summer Storm", some backstory chapters, "Their Trial", "Decision and Parting", and "Flowers after the Rain"... It kind of looks like there's could be a break-up and get back together arc coming up. There's definitely something going on with the girl who Chidori cut her hair over and who gave her chocolates on V-Day during their first year, which she then returned, but made Nanoha think that Chidori had a boyfriend up until right after Spring Break when she confessed. That was obviously the woman arriving at the airport or train station or whatever at the end of Chapter 36.
I'd call that codependency.
Whatever works for them though.
Serious codependency! Control freak and stalker in an infinite loop.
When Reina seemed so hostile to the concept of Shion falling for Akemi and made the comment about 'a girl falling for another girl' not making sense to her, I was betting that she was closeted and crushing on Shion. I'm still not entirely ruling that out as what was going on at the beginning.
