she's actually a nuanced character that puts a lot of thought into her relationship with Adachi.

Agreed but I'd add that...

she's actually a nuanced character that puts a lot of thought into [ nearly every aspect of her life ].

She's one of the most thoughtful MCs I've read and not over simple topics either (mainly coming from the LNs). Very introspective and questioning. She really wants to define herself at every opportunity and feels uncomfortable when she can't do so. That makes her "slow" or seem "less emotive" because she takes time to think things through first or to organize her experiences. That's largely why she gets misunderstood often. My personal experience is most people aren't used to her type, in real life, and definitely not in romance manga.

Very cute. Michi starting to feel a bit like a third wheel with how the other 2 agree to only be secretly affectionate while she's not around.

Has she ever not been the third wheel though lol That seems to be her thing, right from her introduction.

Side note, this is reminding me of another manga where an older lady was recalling her life lived as a lesbian who had never come out & had continued living within heteronormativity. I think the story was kind of told through her granddaughter's interactions with her. Does anyone remember what I'm thinking of?

Interesting!
I must have missed this one..
Anyone recalled ? Please share the title of the manga if you remember it, thank you!

I know what they're talking about but can't remember the name. If I remember before someone posts it, I'll share.

Just for clarification in chapter ordering, chapter 49 is included with vol10 too.
We'll also have the vol10 special edition booklet translated soon, as well as the comic anthology over the coming weeks, so look forward to those.

Awesome. This was sweet and the mom is lovely. Can't wait for the AkiShiho Booklet chapter. It hadn't considered you'd do the anthology as well, so that also great. Chapter 49 being part of volume 10 makes sense, since the two .5 chapters this volume were really short and probably didn't count towards the typical 5 chapter per volume pattern.

Well I had a conversation(?) with the author on Twitter and she basically told me why this scene between Karin and Riri happened. It's all good now lmao.

I would post it here if I knew how to make spoilers.

Or don’t? We don’t need the additional commentary when we can just wait for the next chapter. Personally, I want more of Karin and Riri. Karin’s great, she’s honest and open with her feelings and actions. And I think she could help Riri be more open and honest about her own feelings.

I mean, the whole point of spoiler bars is that you don't have to read it if you don't want it, but it's still there for people who do.

To post spoilers w/ blacked-out text, just put double equal-signs "="x2 before and after the text you want to block out.

I'm always curious to hear the author's thoughts on why they write a scene the way they do. I'm interested in people's processes for writing.

Sure, there you go

She told me she only created the scene with Karin touching Riris breasts to emphasize how different it feels when Mei is touching her later in the story. Karin is just a foil to let Riri grow closer to Mei, so we can expect something sexy happening between them on this trip

Btw Tamamushi is incredible nice to talk to. She loves to read the eng localization of her mangas.

Cool, that tracks with my impressions of the characters and Riri's ultimate place. Thanks for that info. It's nice that the author is willing to answer casual questions like that.

Anyway, if you wanted to help sensei's work, it never hurt to buy the manga too. Though it speaks Japanese.
Sales always help motivate both the publishing company and the mangaka to continue working on the series.

I'm pretty sure the series is completed already. Still, never hurts to support the author.

Seems it's ended, yes. Final episode of season 3 was published July 2023. Interestingly enough, the mangaka seems aware that people would like an official EN translated version: https://x.com/schwinn_draw/status/1673305296717123586

Yeah, they're always aware of the unofficial TLs happening. She commented on that in a few places. I think most authors would rather find a way to make that official for obvious reasons but the backing isn't always there. I see some going through other routes.

For example, I just posted in the Her Kiss--Infectious Lust thread about that author's Kickstarter for a physical English translation of her series. It looks like it will blow past her goals and I backed it. Closes next month.

But it's always tough. Case in point:

My Twitter account is not even followed by my editorial team and they do not promote me on Twitter.
My followers, finally, please talk a lot about Hanamonogatari. Even your impressions of the bootleg [TLs] is fine. -- from their twitter, last year

It's unfortunate when you don't get the backing you want, but this series is great. They really want to draw more series with older women.

The author currently has a Kickstarter going until August 31st. She wants an official english translation and is trying to get a physical version of volume 1 released in English to start. I figured I could put this here: Her Kiss, My Libido twinkles--彼女のくちづけ感染するリビドー

"Hello, my name is Miyuki Yorita and I'm a Japanese manga artist. This story is a yuri manga (WLW) about a relationship between two female students. It was well-received by Japanese readers, and its popularity led to it receiving a live-action movie! As the author, I myself love this work very much and want everyone in the world to read it! And I want more and more people to enjoy Japanese yuri manga!

That's why I started this project. While volumes one through three have been completed in Japanese, there is no current official English translation. I want to try and change that, so would you be willing to support me in translating and printing physical copies of volume one? (The first volume was originally a one-off and contains six chapters, so you can enjoy the first volume on its own if you so please). However, if this project meets its goal, then I want to continue on with additional crowdfunding projects for the other two volumes."

Synopsis: Sana is hospitalized after injuring her leg. While there, she meets Ayane, a girl who is hospitalized just like her. After seeing Ayane countless times and growing curious about what she is like, a stroke of fate helps Sana reach out to her...

This is a pure-love yuri manga about two girls falling in love for the first time.

Is this actually going to be yuri, because I keep reading the author saying it won't be. Might be bad google translate though but kinda worried. It'll still be great without romance but I would like to see it.

Where did you see the author say that?

It's already yuri. You could also check their twitter. That's all she draws with these two. The story is about their relationship and romance. From memory, she wanted to make the official version more cuddly than the previous version, not less.

You could also check the twitter extras posted on Mangadex (under "volume 3"): These should make her intentions even clearer

Sorry to be blunt, but Windyfall is easily the worst quality translation that's consistently posted to Dynasty - normally I get the impression that there's some quality control with regards to what is allowed on here, but it's like they're an obvious exception to this. Every time I'm about to read something that was translated by them I brace myself for unreadable mess.

They have a long history and have been mostly good. Just check all their other releases throughout the years. I haven't seen much issue with them until recently.

idk if i'd call over a year 'recent', just look at this one from April last year. And that's just the first one i consciously remember rn

There's plenty from this year and beyond that are more than fine. They've had some inconsistent releases but they're more often fine to me at least. I don't remember having issues with them.

Main reason is because they don't have proofreaders anymore (they had before I think?) and their translator isn't a native English speaker. Neither is their typesetter.

So, I think the rough translation is typesetted as is and they stopped giving af.

I figured something might have changed. Guess we'll see. Anyway I enjoyed their work on "Yuri is Taboo to a Yuri Otaku," "Fuzoroi no Renri" and others.

Currently reading the webnovel for this manga I'm a bit confused as at some point, the plot of the novel and the manga seemed to have diverged radically. Anyone who read the novel had the same experience?

Yeah, they make changes to accommodate the manga medium. It's certainly cuts out some good internal dialogue but that's the same with AdaShima. Sucks but there's only so much they can do with the shift in format. This adaptation could really use the internal dialogue since it sets more webs to unwind than 100 days. The entire story is also about unwinding those webs, while the "100 days" was just the opening premise to a traditional couple's story.

I wonder if fans of 100 days aren't influenced in their reading of the scene by their knowledge about the (apparently plentiful) fluff to come later down the line.

I doubt most people who read 100 days knew there was a LN and even less would have read them (which is normal for most LN to manga adaptations). I don't think it has an official English translation still either--I could be blanking. I certainly hadn't read the LNs then. The people who read the LNs as they released wouldn't know about future events until they came out as well. It's just a difference of opinion, as you said.

I would say 100 pretty much always leans "fluff," it just becomes almost sickeningly fluffy and increasingly so afterwards. It pretty much hits all the milestones people tend to want these couples to hit; but as always, it's fair to dislike the series.

The body language is night and day. In arioto, Marika's eyes are constantly open, she's holding fuwawa's face, and she never seems physically resistant to any of Fuwawa's advances, only mentally, and its the whole "oh this feels so good, even though Fuwawa's a girl..." stuff.

Generally agreed with everything you said, although I won't paste all of it here. Arioto is lighthearted and tongue in cheek nearly the whole way through--its essentially a romcom; while this one is intended to be dramatic and confronting with more negative emotions fueling each character. I think both are fine though, for reasons I've already briefly mentioned.

Thanks for the effort on putting those panels together but my opinion about Arioto comes from reading the LN, so reading body language was never part of the equation for me. I've never read the manga and don't have much interest in it.

Genuine question: did you only read the early LN? The series is beyond fluff and straightforward romantic progress. It goes well passed the 100 day bet, which ends very early, so I'd be confused if you've been referring to the series in its entirety. Even the first LN is not dramatic in the slightest but I can't fault you for liking Watanare more. I actually feel the opposite about those two series but I have a bias against stories like Watanare anyway.

So do people think the rape tag be removed from that series?

Definitely, but as I mentioned before that's not a debate I really care to have at this point. I'm not even sure if I was there for whatever the original debate was and I can't imagine it was a good time for anyone. But definitely don't read something you're not interested in. I don't think anyone is asking for that.

So huuuuh... Why aren't they dating yet?

A touch of misunderstandings, dash of inadequacy and a heavy sprinkle of denial. Solving the denial part probably solves the first two, but the first two make the denial stronger, which is funny.

what is the sister series?

"A Yuri Story in Which a Girl Who Says That Girls Being Together is Unbelievable Will Completely Fall Within 100 Days"

Similar type of story, similar agreement/game between MCs, MC who is similarly shown to be into things near immediately. They're both part of the same romance genre in a way (one that's been popular for a long time even outside of Japan). If you like this one, you might like that one too. I forgot the shorter nickname for that series...that's a mouthful.

For me this series is messy but feels more mutual in it's complicated relationship. I can't stomach 100 days for a variety of reasons, mainly due to the rape factor. So I'm hoping this doesn't cross the line that 100 days did.

That doesn't really happen in 100 days but I feel we'd just end repeating the same criticisms/debates this series gets. Out of the two (and w/o spoiling) 100 days is way more wholesome, their affection is mutual pretty much from the start (besides the denial that fuels the story) and only increases from there; but I guess that's where the difference of opinion comes from. The bar owner is a whole different story, though...

Short name is Arioto.

Thanks! Right. Completely forgot.

More goodness.

Yeah there's argument to be made about consent in earlier chapters but in this one Wakaba's clearly into it and just pushing back a little for appearance's sake. She literally thinks to herself "times like these aren't so bad".

Particularly with how she's so quick to cuddle and comfort Komaki when she gets scared. Clearly Wakaba's not actually put off by the kissing if she's so quick to comfort her.

As is the case with this and it's sister series, the MC is always clearly into it from pretty much the start and there's always a clear out they don't take because they don't actually want to. But agreed, this chapter was definitely the most straightforward about it.

The creator isn't a stranger to lesbian romance.

Sure but I feel like if not for the title and the author, this would be just tagged subtext at best (and really I feel like the series is more about the vtubing thing than romance anyway). The collage may feel romantic but it requires some reading between the lines, that seems like textbook subtext to me. (But I do want to reiterate I barely remember most of this series so I may be just wrong :P)

They're not a couple yet but our MC's feelings have been clear (beyond just in the title). This particular chapter is progress because we have an admission of feelings we weren't sure of before, directed at the MC and not her persona (feelings the best friend wants to keep hidden for now). We call people "idiot couples" before they start dating all the time; but as you said, it has been a while.

brother we are no were any were aby progress, what are you talking about? idiot couple? do we even get the other moron thoughts if she is even remotely having ANY romantic feelings? cuz i only see her sipping HARDCORE for an vtuber LOL

This was extremely not subtle so how on earth did you miss it
https://dynasty-scans.com/chapters/my_best_friend_who_i_love_fell_completely_in_love_with_my_vtuber_self_ch36#2

No that was incredibly subtle. I think there needs to be even more flashbacks of the protagonist to be crammed in there before the message is clear on who our girl depends on for support…

This is why stories have characters say things bluntly all the time, or repeat themselves endlessly.

This was a nice recent interview with Sal. She talks about how she started drawing manga (it was an... erm... interesting place to post her work), living abroad, working as a sales person at a company, how she comes up with the stories including this one, and her impression of the live action. Though it sounds like the interview was before the premiere.

https://realsound.jp/book/2024/07/post-1724219.html

Thanks for that. Really interesting interview! Definitely an interesting start but a good idea for a writer, being so open to and seeking out criticism. Her work definitely has a unique feel to it. Her premise are always especially fresh but the execution is what stands out as uniquely hers. Doesn't surprise me that she takes inspiration from many places, or that she doesn't get her ideas from manga or anime. Her stuff has always operated on its own wavelength to me.

Sorawo being literally dazzled by Toriko will never not be funny.

What's funnier is Sorawo wonders how Toriko can always pick her out from a crowd while, from Sorawo's POV, Toriko walks around with light emanating from her. Seems like she can pick Toriko out from a crowd too.
