I did NOT expect this to go there, especially considering this artist makes futaribeya

Some of her other work is fucked too. I quite appreciate "There Is Nobody Who Wants To Cry."

The duality of man.

Lasses and lads what is this larping

It feels like soon it'll stop being larping.

Certainly that's the premise. But IRL, I would consider this to be a Very Bad Idea to playact like a couple and family when you aren't one. That's a recipe for misunderstandings about what the other wants. You can have a sham marriage with a good friend to scam the welfare system, but imo you're either a real couple or you're not. Clean emotional lines save future hurt.

This isn't the sole way to interpret emotional relationships. For a counterperspective, A Room For Two posits and describes a happy long term life partnership relationship straddling the platonic and romantic lines, without clear definition. Though unnamed and unlabelled, it is a relationship built on lasting commitment, a shared understanding of each other's feelings, and years of comfortable cohabitation and change.

(There's been endless debate in the fanbase over whether A Room For You is "really" yuri, and if the relationship actually has sufficient emotional commitment from both sides. The point is that the narrative presents itself with the thesis that the relationship is valid, stable, and healthy.)

The relationship presented in "Trying Out Marriage With My Female Friend," on the other hand, is more flagrantly artificial. The last rule of "we are free to break up and pursue other partners" is evidence of a lack of true long-term commitment actively bought-into. Probably the artificiality and conflict in goals is a plot setup for future misunderstandings and necessary clarification of emotional lines.

Only in this manga would a magical girl villain get doxed by butt touch technique.

clearly the fluffy ahistorical femininity and relative softness is just to kill us into complacency for the first mustard gas attack

the schoolgirl romance plot thread and the older girls having sex plot thread are really awkwardly tied together

I get that the super fast progression is supposed to be a comedy thing, but it honestly fell really flat for me. It's not wacky enough to pass as an absurdist comedy, but it's not grounded enough to be a serious character exploration.

She's able to give the person she loves any body she wants in bringing her back. It is only natural she would chose a loli, anyone would.

Fun fact: This is a part of Eclair Orange, which did get released in English by Yen Press but doesn't include this part. You can probably guess why.

Yeah, YP have been pretty consistently anti-yuri like this in localizing the whole series. It's just not a good idea to give them money.

,,,I mean in this case, I consider it completely justified? Loli aren't cash-money, yo.

I've never really been sure how diegetic the attraction between Shino and Nozomi was supposed to be.

My read is that we are to understand that:

  • Shino is gay (or proto-gay), and sexually attracted to Nozomi (as well as loving her deeply as her onee-san).

How aware Shino is of the nature of her feelings is up in the air—she appears to be keeping them at arm’s length from her own consciousness.

  • Nozomi is very fond of and deeply emotionally connected to Shino in an exceptionally skinshippy way.

Ritsuko, and I believe now Heidi, suspect that her feelings go even deeper than that, but if Nozomi also suspects that about herself, so far she’s committed to keeping those feelings at longer-than-arm’s-length from her own consciousness.

EDIT: On the other hand, if mutual-blush-sex is a thing, these two have have been going at it like bunny rabbits since Day 1.

Thanks for the insight. I'm surprised that, after dozens of chapters, we seem to be actually exploring this attraction and what it means. Probably it will be in a somewhat indirect manner, but this is getting quite outright with the gay.

...did the author just get tired and decide that the sex scene was enough?

Mangaka really has a big moral range, huh. One oneshot's the most wholesome thing ever, the other one's screwed up cheating.

Despite how, uh, interesting the premise and behavior is, mangaka is good at the little details to make the premise feel more believable. The right little pauses, looks, doubts, and reflections.

honestly the comment's section makes this manga like, 87% better, knowing that people are perpetually arguing whether the relationship is valid and worthwhile.

That really is the fundamental question of this manga, ain't it?

No, it really isn't. It's been obvious that their relationship is "valid and worthwhile" since Chapter 1.

Whether it's "yuri" or not, as defined by those who invest a lot of emotional energy into that label--opinions do seem to differ.

That would be the thesis and premise of this manga: that this unlabelled relationship is a valid and stable relationship. It's not necessary to accept the thesis as necessarily true in real life to accept the manga itself for what it is.

Wait, why there was blood after Yuka went out from the bathroom?

she had a nosebleed from intense perverted thoughts

(has that ever actually happened to anybody ever? I nosebleed easily, but I've never had them in response to sexual arousal.)
