I did like how it was told. Whether it worked well is another matter. Showing us the end, then how that came to be is not unique to this manga but i don't remember if it was done before with another arc. And since we have seen so many different arcs, a change of style or story-telling is welcome.

It's a bit early to tell how "well" it worked since it will depend on how the arc will unfold, but I personally love the bittersweet tone of the chapter. How Mikaze went from a shallow crush to a deeper attachment and how Asuka realized she might have someone she can relate to, if even a little, before it all went downhill. The chapter does a good job at making both Mikaze's heartbreak and Asuka's disillusionment easy to understand (though the latter seems more at fault for the relationship petering out).

The art really brings a rapey, pedophile feeling to it ..

…Wut? >.> You mean the predatory smile near the end?

Well, Mizuki and Moe were already together from the start, but yeah, it's the first time we see the "whole process" within the first chapter.

^ Now that criticism I can buy. If this arc doesn't end up connected in some way to the main arc I'd be disapointed, but I'll wait and see. I can see how that could be done − Asuka could for example serve as an inverse parallel to Yurine's evolution (started out sociable but detached herself with time). Hopefully Canno does something with that.

Pretty nice so far indeed. At least the story gives us a good reason as to why Maki would bond with that older woman. Miss Kimono certainly seems to have… further plans than cozy friendship, but we'll see how this is handled.

Regarding the art, the proportion are a little iffy to say the least, but the backgrounds and atmosphere are well-rendered. As well as Natsume's hypnotic beauty.

Now considering the last series involving fireflies that I've read, I don't see the developments being pretty, but who knows. >.>

In a way? I'm pretty sure they're gonna be back together by the end of the arc though. But Asuka's gonna have to change a little for that. It seems like she just running away at the end.

Can you believe, new characters introduced for the new volume to be about. It's like this is AnoKiss or something.

How are there still people who don't understand the nature of this series?

YES. These comments are getting really annoying, seriously, it's the same bullshit every time. You KNOW there's gonna be a new couple every volume alongside the main one, get over it already. =___= Like, there's been ten comments to complain about the obvious and almost zero to talk about the chapter. If you don't have anything to say, then just don't. Sorry, but it just pisses me off.

Anyway… That was unusually depressing for a Canno story. Though there's probably more to it − I guess Ayaka and/or Yurine are gonna get involved in all this one way or another. If you wonder when your relationship went off the rail, though, Asuka… that might be the day you stopped interacting with people? I can't think that's a good foundation for a healthy relationship.

Really liked the imagery in this chapter though, especially at the end. It's like that train announcer was watching them break up or something… Also, page 26, that leaf on the mirror reminds me of the way Tanuki transform in Japanese lore. Might be a way to symbolize that Asuka is trying to be someone she's not… I'm also pretty fond of Asuka's design. She looks a bit more adult than the characters we've seen until now (though since she's 19 that makes sense). Anyway, I'm curious to see how Canno continues that story. Their relationship seems pretty hard to fix right now.

Oh, and chart.

Now I wonder how much Koyomi's shipping preferences influenced the writing of the play…

And I love Nurse Yuu's "tough love" therapy for people with profound cognitive injuries--a karate chop to the head for fibbing.

I imagine one of the scrapped endings to be: "The nurse karate-chops the main character on the head and suddenly she remembers everything. The end." :þ

Otherwise… Yeah. The execution felt really flat outside of a few pages here and there. It had to be done, obviously, but I wish Nakatani hadn't shown all her cards beforehand. Now her narration style has always been minimalistic so I didn't expect dramatic flourish or anything, but she played things a bit too safe here.

But well, the last few pages announce some interesting developments at least.

…By the way, am I the only who feels like digital raws kinda ruin the quality of the art? It all kinda… flattens it, ruins the greys and makes the black lines look ragged and pixelized… I kinda have this feeling about AnoKiss' raws too, but it's especially bad with YagaKimi… It's honestly a big part of the reason I haven't been enjoying the last few chapters as much. And I've experienced it with other series, including legally purchased ones... You just lose a lot of finesse and warmth compared to paper scans.

Although in Yagakimi's case, maybe it's just the scanlation team doing a horrible cleaning job, I don't know.

I'm talking about Gin. Yeah, she's not explicitly stated to have been in love with Takako, but episode 9 makes it clear enough.

…And I finally caught up on YagaKimi (chapter 30). \o\ That first part of the play was… a bit underwhelming honestly, mostly because we already knew more or less how it was gonna unfold. I suppose the second part will have some kind of twist though.

Let's note that the scriptwriter for the anime is Hanada Jukki, who wrote A Place Further than the Universe last season. Which had a pretty well written lesbian character for that matter (and vaguely implied relationship, though that was more ambiguous).

I don't know how good Studio Troyca is, though. =[

I'm also worried at how much it will adapt… If it's a 12 episode anime (which it will be, let's face it), I can't see any "climactic" point at which it could stop… The play, maybe? But 6-ish volumes seems a lot to cram in.

The sisterly relationship between Shiramine and her cousin is probably my favorite relationship in the whole series, even though it's filled with cliches.

What do you mean "filled with clichés"? :o I find that they have a pretty unique relationship actually. Sort of mutually supportive, with Ayaka showing her sisterly love in her own, slightly jerkish way (like when she tells Mizuki to dress up for her girlfriend for the summer festival or hilariously tries to imitate Moe to cheer her up).

On another note, Canno has tweeted something a little interesting. The conversation is as follows:
Canno: Every time I try to draw adult yuri, I end up doing more or less this kind of couple…
Kanarashi: Waaah!! I so want to read an adult yuri from you!!
Canno: I do want to draw an adult relationship, but I don't know what to write yet, so it will happen one day! Eventually!
Kanarashi: Then I'll stubbornly wait for that day to come!!

…Canno… You've created a lesbian school full of female teachers. What are you waiting for. Please. ;__;

Give up, Ayaka, you'll never win. XD

Hase's last line in the omake is, ironically, a summary of the whole history of inventions: people who worked their butt off so that they could be lazy. So… is Hase secretly a genius?

…Damn, I'd really like an actual arc about Hase and Aizawa, but we already just got a student council arc so it probably won't happen. =(

And suddenly, drama! Canno has a strange knack for writing characters that should be unlikeable but aren't, somehow.

Also page 04. I believe it should have been "I can't hide anything from you, can I."

Probably…

This is the 3rd chapter of Mushoku to JK. Seems like Eclair Blanche is getting ignored by fan translators?

We'd need access to it first. But Eclair is a tricky anthology to work out of. It's one where scanlating from it is definitely going to hurt sales of the professional release and make it less likely that they'll continue releasing each anthology. It's super rare that the publishers take on collections like these.

It's morally unsound to work out of and puts us in a bit of a conundrum.

Yeah, I could only pick this one up because it happened to be in the free sample. Otherwise it's complicated.

Still, I can't wait for the 4th chapter, with Mao facing trial for kidnapping. >.>

Can this woman do no wrong? Everything she draws is gold, even the most mundane stuff…

(funny fact: "mimi" is both the Japanese word for "ears" and a colloquial French word for "cute"… I just noticed that. >.>)

I do agree that for a series that lives and dies with visual storytelling like YagaKimi, you can't settle on a mediocre studio. Who knows what Passione might in the future though, maybe they'll get better with experience. Anyway, if KyoAni decides to adapt a Yuri work, I highly doubt they're gonna remove the kisses when they're an entire part of the story. It would be like making Yuzu and Mei a platonic couple. >.>

Children of the Whale looks beautiful, at least. The writing is bad. Not sure if that's the source's or the anime's fault. But that show didn't leave as bad of an impression on me as much as Kino 2017 got me wary of Lerche (despite the fact that their shows tend to look pretty neat for the most part) lol

Some of the issues came from the source, some came from not adapting enough − Chakuro's narration for example, works and is even fitting in the manga but gets grating very quickly in anime. And then in the last few episodes they awkwardly rearranged events and basically skipped an entire arc just so they could end the season at a certain point. Add to that a rather bland direction (save for maybe episode 10) and the show didn't get me nearly as invested as the manga did, even though it was mostly "faithful". Even visually it was rather hit and miss.

And I hope Lerche doesn't botch the adaptation of Radiant. Japan adapting a French comic is too rare an occasion. =[

Wit & J.C.Staff are cool.

Eeh, JC left a bad taste in my mouth with their sloppy adaptation of Children of the Whale. =x Though I'm not too familiar with their usual fare.

And no, Citrus didn't look that awful, come on. Low budget yes, but for a new studio with supposedly limited ressources, the quality is fine. Not great, but fine. The NTR anime is what I call godawful, as it's clear absolutely no effort was put into it.

Also, yes, no DEEN. Please.

4 - Kyuugetsuki Sugu Shinu

…Wut? Was this thing that popular? >.>

But anyway, does this poll have any effect on what might actually happen? Cause damn, a YagaKimi anime is something I can get behind.

Welp need start pushing for ti like the Citrus author did. Though with the right studio of course.

Passione did a pretty good job on Citrus honestly (save for a couple of scenes in the early episodes). But since Wit studio has been polishing their romance chops this season with Magus' Bride and After the Rain, they might be a good option. Or KyoAni, as someone else mentionned here.

(by the way, I'm a bit amused that 2 or the 3 top spots are taken by a yaoi and a yuri series. XD)

You sure? At the beginning, Ayaka was the one who helped Yurine make friends, with Ai, the gardening club and such. It's true that Yurine was the one helping in chap 22-23 though… then Ayaka was the helper again in chap 31-32… Huh… seems like they actually take turns.

Huh… Didn't know there was a vietnamese version. >.>

We might add chapter 39 for Ayaka, where she appears for a few pages. More simply:

Volume 1: Ayaka & Yurine + Mizuki & Moe
Volume 2: Chiharu & Maya + Chiharu & Izumi
Volume 3: Ayaka & Yurine + Yukina & Towako
Volume 4: Mizuki & Moe + Kaoru & friends
Volume 5: Ayaka & Yurine + Sawa & Itsuki
Volume 6: Chiharu & Izumi + Amane, Ryou & Nina
Volume 7: Ayaka & Yurine + Haine & Aika
Volume 8: Ayaka & Yurine + Hikari & Nagisa

…To go back to the chapter, it's nice to see that Ayaka and Yurine is pretty much reversed now, with Yurine being the one helping Ayaka get out of a bad place (sort of).

I think we can safely paint Ayaka's arrow in pink now. X) She's barely hiding it anymore.
