You're welcome! ...and agreed. I'm closing other tabs and hiding windows and stuff out of anxiousness. (I want to focus on the refresh mechanisms.) I tried to write a script to refresh the window, but JS attaches to the DOM. I'd probably have to write a script for my browser. ...that would be some sort of macro, right. Hmm...

You can use the "Maxthon" browser - it has the auto-refresh tab feature built-in! You can even customize the time interval if you want.

Here's a short fanfic, which perfectly expresses my point of you on confessions. I start where the last chapter ended.

The lights are off. Both girls are lying on their beds, trying to fall asleep. Both remembering the almost-kiss scene from a few minutes ago.
Norae: hey Seola, are you asleep?
Seola (with a somewhat hoarse voice): no.
N: you Ok?
S: uhmm
N: you sure?
Seola doesn't answer
N: does your knee hurt?
S: uhmm, a bit
N: want me to do you a light massage?
S (after a pause): uhmm...
Norae gets up, goes to Seola's bed, sits next to Seola's knees, carefully gets Seola's leg from under the blanket, and starts massaging it softly.
N: you know, Sungpyo also had an issue with his knee, but he'd never let me do this, despite I specially learned the technique...
Seola suddenly moans in excitement as Norae touched her upper leg. If not for the darkness, you could've seen her face and ears were shining all red.
Norae grins but gets embarrassed at the same moment too: hey what was that, you perv!
Seola doesn't answer anything.
Norae continues with the massage, her hands are getting higher and higher: ah, your legs are so slim and beautiful!

Seola moans again, this time louder
Norae giggles and continues
S: Norae... Norae, I... I...
Norae bends to Seola's ear and softly whispers into it: yes, I love you too. After that she kisses the top of Seola's ear. Seola turns her head to face Norae, passionately embraces her, and they start kissing.

Then comes the sunny morning scene. The girls are sweetly sleeping together. Ina enters their room to wake them up and with a giggling face, looking at the cute couple, announces that it's the end of the fanfic: Happy Valentine's!

oh, Carol... I actually didn't like the movie too much tbh, but I haven't read the book. And from reading the plot on wiki, i'd imagine Carol being a lot different from how she's depicted in the movie. But then who am I to judge. In any case, I don't see Carol as Seola at all. I find Carol to be a lot more mature, when it comes to her personality, I mean, not age. I think that unlike Seola, Carol is quite a sly character who knows exactly what she wants from Therese from the very start. Ah, whatever..

just finished watching pride and prejudice! the BBC version doesn't have the 'cold hands' but I nevertheless really enjoyed the trip.
I agree with mezmerizing interpretation about Seola's pride and Norae's prejudice. But I wanted to add that just like in Jane Austen's novel, our main characters have both pride AND prejudice in their personalities. Remember the WC scene - that's where you see pride in Norae. And prejudices? Remember how many prejudices Seola had for Norae - what if she's just another girl who wants to use me to get to Jihwan. Both pride and prejudice are values respected by both Seola and Norae. And that's exactly what unites them, that's the basis for the trust build-up in their relationship.

Anyone have a guess on which jane austen work they were watching? I assumed it was Pride and Prejudice because of the arguing

yep, I assumed it's P&P. Rewatching the BBC version of it now xD

Are you done? How was it??

Honestly I've watched it so long ago when I was younger so I don't remember what happened. I don't think I even knew how to appreciate arts and literature back then. Ssamba has just given me some motivation to go back and read some classics lol

ieeheh
lol, same here! But I like it a lot now. You can tell how great the chemistry is between the two, and how awesome they are trolling each other. Anyway it's definitely better than nothing while waiting for the new chapter, hehe. Too bad I have to work now and I can't really marathon it like I did with Achiara's secret around Christmas. But again it's easier to survive till Sunday this way ^_^

OK, I should be actually finishing my tasks at work and going home, but I can't wait anymore and have to write my sincere thanks to hamoni and thatanon for the smooth translations, and everyone in the thread for the awesome fffanfics!!! Today was one of the best Mondays, thanks to all of you, and Ssamba, of course!

Now a few things that I want to share...
For a second I started doubting that anything happens "tonight" and rather will take place at Norae's house. However, Norae, you're a smart girl, right?! I believe in you. You've seen that Seola didn't reject you and rather leaned herself for your kiss. You couldn't have left unnoticed that despite all that happened Seola immediately accepted your invitation! So come on, Norae, connect the dots already!!! You have to act NOW!!! You hear me, girl? NOW!!!
Oh God, and I'm blushing just as much from the thoughts how things might play out. How Seola may fell asleep, and then Norae will look at how cute Seola is while sleeping, and then she'd try to kiss while Seola's sleeping. And then Seola wakes up and catches Norae, not letting her run away. And then kiss her back. And then they'll say those three words to each other... and then Ina comes in hahahahaha

Actually speaking about Ina... I had an ugly feeling that Chapter 63 will be something completely different breaking that cute moment we'd been left in chapter 62. I thought that what we could've been given instead were Ina talking so Seola's brother, and Sungpyo talking to Heejin (hope I remember her name correctly). Cause each noticed there's something about these two. And so that could be the beginning of the rumours and issues the girls would have to face. Ina could tell Seola's brother, that Seola's changed a lot and could ask him if he noticed anything different about her. And then her borther could remember how Seola's like having a boyfriend now, but claiming to spend all her time with her firends. And then Ina could accidentally plant a seed into Seol'a brother's mind, that there's something going on between Seola and Norae.
And then Sungpyo could start asking Heejin who's that Seola Norae is so close too. And start acting all jealous. Heejin would of course laugh it off, but then when the new semester starts, and our girls are already obviously going out. Heejin might start thinking that it could actually be true.
Eventually, I think there should also be a coming-out scene for Norae with her other friends, the one who's the architect/interier designer. I think she'll be the first one to openly support the couple and the first one they will tell themselves.
Now it's also very interesting how Norae's family reacts. There's high probability that Norae's brother will detect the change in Norae and her love affection for Seola, or rather their mutual feelings. I think that being a doctor he will accept it without many issues, but I wonder how would the rest of the family react.
And of course Seola's family... ugh, I fear that's where a lot of drama will come from. And the university of course...

OK. Now, to hell with work. I'm going home xD
Norae, please, do everything right this Sunday, I beg you)))) I'm afraid I'm already started waiting and getting excited for that Valentine's chapter right now. I just can't. HNNNNNGG!!!!

Somehow I have a feeling Ssamba will be a bit late with the chapter tomorrow..

cipp

Wow, you can use the golden ratio for plot too? :P

Of you course you can! It's a universal and very natural law to rely on in any form of art! Drawing, architecture, music, writing, whatever else - literally anything. It always works great!

halmoni

An alternate translation of the part "so you do you" would be something like "I'll be doing my own thing" (implying "so go ahead and keep hanging out with your friend"). Dunno if that sounds any clearer to you?

Literally it says "You do it your way", or "You do it however you want to do it", which more or less implies "Whatever"/"Suit yourself"/"Have it your way"/etc. It doesn't necessarily say anything about Seol-a's actions in particular, she's commenting on No-rae's actions in a sort of sarcastic/"I give up" manner. 네 (you) =/= 내 (me), although they're homophones in written speech (but not in common spoken speech).

Usually when I'm translating a rough draft I tend to go for the most literal translation possible, so it's good to see feedback on what lines I need to clarify or change for the final drafts. I couldn't really think of anything else other than "you do you (boo boo)" cuz I'm a ghetto ass ho but yeah I'll probably adjust that line later to something less ratchet.

I think something like "so go your own way" or "so have it your way" would make a lot more sense to me. The problem with "so you do you" is that the first "you" looks like a typo for the typical expression "so do you". Yeah, I know the latter doesn't make much sense, either grammatically or lexically, but that's exactly the problem. I just couldn't get this bubble at all. Besides every time the verb "do" uses an animate direct object, I tend to get a completely different meaning, as in "doing someone" *__*

if anything, I have quite high expectations about the chapter 62, simply because mathematically this is a golden ratio for a 100.
On the other hand, I don't actually believe in 100 chapters being something definite. Ssamba herself said that she didn't expect FF to be that long. There are many factors which can make the story shorter or longer. So I wouldn't actually set any expectations and push the author, but instead enjoy the drama as it naturally rolls out.
Some might say that certain events are too conveniently plotted to be considered natural. Yeah, that's true. I however don't care much about it because for me FF is about the characters and their fluttering experience with which I can empathise a lot. So I can easily last and enjoy another 100 chapters without the story progressing any further. It's this fluttering feeling of regularly reaching the edge and then taking step back for various reasons which actually makes it so interesting for me.

Regarding the translation "mistake", I personally interpreted this so-called "denial" as Seola experiencing another feeling new to her - jealousy. However if the interpretations mentioned somewhere above in the thread are right, then I guess I'd suggest to phrase Seola's words as "What is she doing to me?" or "What kind of creature is she?". Regardless, halmoni, thatanon, anonymous, thanks a lot for your effort in bringing us the TL so enormously fast! You're all really awesome! <3

Next chapter zombie predictions? Ina gets Seola drunk too in order to let her out of the depression. Then they wake up in the morning and have a threes.. - no, to hell with this idea. I'm really not fond of this kind of relationships.
So... then Ina tells something cheerful to Seola.. Seola takes Norae to their room, and they fall asleep together on Norae's bed.. because Norae's already sleeping and Seola just got both physically and mentally tired. And then they wake up totally like a couple... and then my fangirling mind goes blank because I'm falling asleep myself now.
Anyway, I root for an accidental kiss or a very warm and cosy scene that will help Seola believe a bit more in her own strength. And then we need a proper resolution to the ex. At least Norae must explain Seola that there's no reason to get jealous. Actually that would be sweet if Norae realises that Seola really is simply plain jealous.
Another sweet scene is that if they do fall asleep on one bed, Norae could wake up first, enjoy the sight of cutely sleeping Seola next to her, and will want to do something physical to Seola. Like, kissing or smth like that. Which would wake Seola up and they will get both very very very awkward xD Ok.. I stop now and go for sweet dreams.
Love you all! Love FF!

How is the amount staggering? Can you point out another Shoujo manga of similar length with fewer tropes?

The length is irrelevant. I can point a shorter "manga" with maybe as many cliches, but a whole lot better written. That is Lily Love. The cliches are obvious, but the story flows naturally.

Couldn't even read the first chapter - it's one of those mangas that I really hated despite it being very well drawn so occasionally I kept trying to read it again and again, but kept dropping from the very first chapter. I just couldn't. And then I stopped caring about it completely, and today I'm very happy about that decision :)

As I have stated numerous times, it's not the tropes or the cliches themselves that I dislike. It's the way they are brought in FF, in a seemlingly endless succession of "let's see what I could put in there that would give the characters a dramatic background..."

For Seol-a, it's the drama of traffic accidents and death/betrayal of her girl friend. For No-rae it's the drama of her ex-boyfriend being injured and totally immature about their relationship.

And then... the past comes to haunt them, blah blah blah...

Meanwhile, the readers are left wondering when the fucking romance between the two characters is going to even start.

Because, for instance, Seol-a feels insecure and doesn't want to get rejected. She's worried. She doesn't want to get hurt. She cherishes her current relationship and is afraid to destroy it. Perhaps she thought she had a chance, but once the ex appeared, she realised the rejection was a lot more probable. I can 100% relate to such feelings, which makes the story for me 10 times more realistic and enjoyable.

I agree that the cliches are overused in FF and somewhat destroy the realism, but I account it to the genre/Korean media culture. And besides, the FF is really not about the action-driven plot, it's about the feelings and their gradual development, these fluttering emotions one feels when falls in love, and how they are expressed in various small life situations, e.g.
"Today we ate lunch together and she said something sweet, looked at me, and blushed, so I went all Kyaaa, what if she feels something for me! Could it be real? Nah, no way, I'm probably just imagining things. But perhaps she really does?"
One step forward, two steps back. And so on. It's clearly not for everyone.

Hey you love each other it seems. And this is crazy, but you should just confess! Or, you know, drop hints?

People are different. Some are afraid and are waiting for the romance to either develop naturally or die. If the other person is matching it may very well come to reality. Again, I can relate to it.

I mean, the ex boyfriend disappared for a whole arc (weeks in story time?). WHY DIDN'T SEOL-A RESUME HER CONFESSION? Why would she care about an ex? All the more reason to confess. The readers are left to guess, hence the walls of text here full of guesswork and awe about "microexpressions". Nothing is exposed or explained. Fans clutch at straws in order to interpret what the hell these characters are thinking.

You won't believe it, but it's exactly why I love FF. The fact that you are not fed with direct explanations but things are left untold and you have to look for details to make your own opinion of what is going on, discuss this on the forum, and get more fun out of it. Did you guess right? Did you guess wrong? It's fun! It's a constant play with the author. And it's really something that some people love and adore, while others hate. And normally these categories don't understand each other well, because they like absolutely opposite things. And that's OK.

The author is dragging this out much longer than necessary.

No, the pacing is perfect. I could easily enjoy this for another 100 chapters.

All the characters fail at life I think.

Except the fact that they don't :) I mean, it's a very, very subjective statement. For you they suck, for others - they are going through one of the very exciting parts of their relationship. But again, it depends on what you define as being exciting and what not.

Anyway, they already have a relationship, so I don't think it has to be rushed. One of them just needs to say something--to the other half of the relationship. Still, I would like to see a season 2.

Relationship? What relationship? They are friends. They have been for 60 chapters. 40 chapters or so to go.

They are not just friends. They are very close friends, in public at least. Yet they worry for each other if one might get hurt a lot more than just friends would do. And they may run after one another. However occasionally they may also run away from one another. Their relationship is a lot more intimate than many other friendships yet they are scared to destroy it by a confession. And this relationship has been gradually built, step by step, along these past 60 chapters. And it continues to evolve. A lot of it was based on unconscious romance. Both realised and practically accepted they are at least bisexuals. You know, it's still a big thing for many people to understand that about themselves and then accept it, especially if you're grown in a culture where it's not welcome.

I hope Ssamba gets to the juicy part fast, because time is running out. Unless she lied and makes 200 chapters after all.

The juicy part were happening in all 60 chapters. So if you still haven't found it juicy, I wouldn't expect any juice for you at all in the FF. And it's OK. It's just not your thing, really. And I mean it, it's not bad. It's great that you're different and enjoy other stories. And there are tons of other people like you. So really, take it easy and enjoy the stories that you like more. We will neither hate you for that, nor will we stop loving FF for what it is, what it's been, and what it will be.

No mocking. Just teasing ;)

HAHAHAHAHA!! ieeheh, you know, I love you!!! HUUUUUUUG!!!

But back to the topic. What I've found really nice in the last chapters, something I've missed a chance to point out myself - perhaps you all here have already discussed it - is how Seol-a's expressions have matured and become a lot more serious. Of course it could simply be that Ssamba was forced to make a difference with Ina, but it really suits her. You can really tell how much Seol-a takes care of No-rae, how much affection and feelings she has. I really hope the girls will make a step forward in their relationship after this arc. They are so sweet together.

my expectations of the next chapter
* No-rae begins to worry where Seol-a is
* No-rae says Sung-pyo she loves a different person
* Sung-pyo realises who No-rae has fallen for
* No-rae finds Seol-a drunk and sleeping in the room, so nothing happens the first night
* Next morning Seol-a overdoes the snowboarding as foreshadowed in this chapter
* Seol-a gets to a hospital with a broken arm or something like that - 2nd night takes place in the hospital
* Both hug in the morning and kiss, realising they can't risk hiding it any further

lol, just love the way Ssamba draws Ina and Seol-a so differently despite them being lookalike.
also love that Ina realised what the two feel for each other - I wonder if she tells Seol-a's brother.

this whole ski resort made me remember my favourite snow drama scenes from Hana yori dango and Toradora. God, something similar to the former would be bliss

Oh and happy new year everyone, I have been away for a while, but I could never skip a chapter of FF! It's gradually becoming my most favourite comic.

Seol-a's gotta stop time-traveling back to play all these different roles and mess up the timeline.

I mean, so far, Seol-a has been:

  • No-rae's brother's wife, i.e., No-rae's sister-in-law
  • Yu-ji's younger sister Jang Yu-na
  • Seol-a's boss, a.k.a., Seol-a with a broken neck
  • Seol-a's own mother (existenception?!)

I think I get it, finally! Seol-a's a yuri goddess! That's how she does all these tricks! Her temple must be somewhere in Australia.

And in the sauna, when No-rae gets close, Seol-a's sooo self-conscious! OMG! They are just sooo cute together!!!

wow, I wonder if there's an English version! If it influences Ssamba she might leave some references in FF. Thank you for the TL, halmoni!

UPD: obviously there is...

How is the Japanese version gonna explain the princess leia lamb towels + pink uniforms in chapter 53???

LOL, they'll build a sauna like that first. They will then use manga to advertise it. PROFIT!
