A really minor point, they say that PG in the US means parental guidance needed, when it actually means parental guidance suggested. Nearly everything on TV here is PG. And obviously it's a rare parent indeed that sits there and watches all of it with their kids.

I personally have never found it creepy, but that's just me. She just wanted to have that top with Tsumugi's name on it so that she could be labeled as Tsumugi's. And it's not like it was underwear after all. Not only was it only the tops that she switched, but, as it's still spring, her own top she switched it with was brand new and never worn. (Don't worry about the time line, her first high school year is in it's second year at this point, but that still means summer is yet to come, even if it came once already.) Well, technically she did commit theft, but she did replace it with new.

Many manga show someone licking a girls flute/recorder and putting it back; now that's creepy (and disgusting).

Edit: By the way, their first year will only take the two years; time doesn't loop back a second time, I promise. (Not like say Ranma 1/2.)

This is more for myself, but I have to put down my thoughts somewhere about one or two scenes in volume 6. I'm hoping it makes me feel better. So it's a dumb post you can safely ignore. Putting in it spoiler tags.

Really not liking some of the stuff that happens in this one. I know this series has some really gory stuff at times, but this is the first time that it actually made me feel sick. It sucked what happened to Polina in Rose-Colored Prison but I didn't feel sick to my stomach. In this one, some of these minor characters get killed and I really did not like how. I mean it fits the series since anyone can get killed here in gory ways. Last volume with all the little girls getting killed, that was rough. Or how in the Spider those two hysterical people got killed after begging for their lives. It is gory, and Kuroko is a killer, but still, what she did with that umbrella first was not right. Come on, Kuu-chan!

Yeah, I knew what I was getting into with this series though. It's like way over the top. Like I normally hate stuff like this but this one is cool. That's why I've been keeping up with it and buying the releases from Japan.

But like I don't think I can really outright cheer for Kuruko anymore after this volume. Like she never was a good guy by any stretch of the imagination, but she's the protagonist. It's like in any Gundam with Char Aznable in it; I can't really cheer for him after what he did to Garma.

In her comments in Witch of the Uniform, Hakamada-sensei mentioned that there is a spectacular nosebleed in the series. Well here it is, right here on page 51 of vol 2. Tsumugi gets it from thinking of sleeping with Beniko, so yes, it is indeed the standard sexual tension nosebleed.

Aw yeah, the "forced to share a bed" scenario always delivers! Although, am I the only one that was kinda worried about Beniko's line on page 11? It seems like she had a past lover or something that's going to bring up drama in the future. I haven't read volume 3 yet though, so I'm not sure.

You'll see when you read it. And yes it is a foreshadowing of the climactic chapters toward the end of volume 3. I'm kind of planning to accelerate working this one again, so if you're waiting for the rest of volume 2 before reading volume 3, it might not be too awfully long.

The way I read in, they are not still in a relationship. In chapter one, Ema says she was dumped. In chapter 2 Ema fails to get back together with Yoshino. In chapter 3 she seems too depressed and reluctant to be going to talk to her lover, even if that lover is her boss. In this chapter, it seemed to me that Yoshino set out to raise Ema's hopes of getting back together before crushing her cruelly underfoot. Then later, Ema says it's about time to give up (on Yoshino apparently). So I really don't think they are together no matter what their relationship used to be like.

And I agree that Yoshino is really messed up in what she does in this chapter. And then what she does in chapter 6! Well you'll have to wait to find out about that.

It is 3 volumes long, a total of 20 chapters, and like most manga it has both good and bad. I wouldn't be working the project if I didn't think it well worth reading. Of course at this time I've only glanced through volumes 2 and 3, but I looked fairly closely at volume 1 and at the end before deciding to pick this one up.

It's nothing but a slightly more vivid flashback to the previous chapter anyway. At first I wasn't going to include the het tag, but then I decided I'd better.

Just letting you know that there will be no more het in this volume. As for vols 2 and 3, I haven't looked closely enough to be sure if they have it, but it will never be more than a minor element.

Edit: Oh, and It turns out I did get this one out this year (barely).

I'm only going to say one thing about this discussion: The 3 Takemiya Jin stories that I personally translated were all light and fluffy (but with a touch of depth), what drama there was, was dealt with in the same chapter, and they were very fun reads. And also that Takemiya is probably my top favorite artist.

Oh, I guess that's two things. Yes I do think the image as an angst loving artists is undeserved, but I'll offer no supporting evidence at all. I'll let others do the arguing on that one.

Can someone point me to the new release? I can't find it.

Thanks for featuring this. I really like Azumanga Daioh, but I didn't even know their was a new edition, let alone the supplementary materials with it.

It's probably not what you meant, but I just thought I'd point out that Kuruko wasn't even in Spider; that was a different character who we don't know much about yet. (Of course that still leaves everything else she did and didn't do in this volume.)

Don't get me wrong, Spider was kind of nauseating, and Kuruko is definitely no good girl. But so far I'm finding this interesting and worth reading once. (I'll probably never get around to rereading it.)

Just a curious little fact here, I've heard that there are more members of religions in Japan than there are people in Japan. In other words, many of these "non-religious" Japanese people are members of two or more religions (hedging their bets). Sorry, I don't remember my source, but I think it was a translator's note in a manga someplace.

I second Fried Green Tomatoes, it's a powerful movie.

I haven't watched that many lesbian movies, but I would also recommend Better than Chocolate.

The special chapter shows that Otome spent at least some time with Minato right after moving out of her mother's place. I always assumed that the main cause of their later separation was Otome needing to go elsewhere while learning to be an architect, while Minato had to stay put to continue being a teacher.

But OriginalGengar is right, from the afterword, the artist is also thinking of the drama.

It's been just about three months since chapter 5 came out in Japan.

It was in fact the very same morning. Which means, of course, that she let me know in a timely manner, she just didn't want me involved in any way. But there were other people that she was letting in (metaphorically), so to me at that time, it felt like it was just me being shut out. But that's all actually beside the point. I just wanted to point out how much it hurts to be shut out by someone you thought you were close to, and the fact that it makes you believe that you weren't so close after all. And I'm sure No-Rae had thought she was very close to Sung Pyo.

Yes, I'm acutely aware of the pain No-rae could have felt by being left out, but, at this point in their lives, I only have sympathy for both of them.

I freely admit that I've really only been thinking about No-Rae in this situation and not Sung Pyo (who, after all, is also hurting a lot). Does that make me heartless?

To you the sports injury may seem minor but to him it was a huge freakin deal! He appears that he made his entire life revolve around the sport and maybe was hoping to go pro. However, it sounds like it was a recurring injury and those can really screw you up if not taken care of properly. He probably had a LOT of self-image, masculinity, personality, and other things wrapped up in soccer and it just came crashing down as that's all he appears to have known in his life.

Sorry, I didn't say that very well. I didn't mean to imply that the injury itself was a small thing. What I meant was that it's overall impact on their relationship could have been a small thing. Of course if he's devoted to sports and he can't continue because of it, it can be devastating to him (edit: and to her too, perhaps). But he didn't have to let it be devastating to their relationship.
