I don't think it's abrupt at all, the quality of Windyfall releases has been varying wildly for quite some time.
In fact this is one or the more decent ones, there are others that are barely comprehensible, like, below mtl level.

Mehhhh whether or not it is true incest or something similar to "My Sister's Best Friend, My Lover," I'm overall pretty bored with this direction because it's annoying how the center of the conflict is Aki once again. Love Aki, but I'm ready to move on from her. I also feel this direction is doing Miki a total disservice to her character. First time we ever get some deeper look into her character and it's bogged down to being a siscon.

Hate to break it to you but Miki has been characterized as a siscon from day 1 xD Being "a little obsessed over her onee-chan" is her no.1 personality trait and right after than comes being a supportive friend. So if anything this direction is consistent her character (we just didn't know what form her obsession exactly had before).

Personally I'm a fan of this development. We already know that Aki x Shiho is the endgame, so without the "danger" of the full-on incest route (which understandable some ppl would dislike) playing it out this way makes for much more interesting expression of depth for her character than "just" being jealous of having to share her sisters attention, spoiled kid style

This is certainly a p quick escalation considering we're at ch.6 out of (currently) 24. That's a lotta chapters to not have the lead character present in

Now that's smth i can relate to. Sleeping Disorders really fuck you up. Something as "simple" sounding as a chronically misaligned circadian rhythm can be absolutely debilitating.

I'm still on the fence with this one but I will note that it fits Usui Shio's pattern of the tareme-eyed girl being a troublemaker (in a positive sense).

Tareme means droopy/downward-slanting eyelids. As opposed to Tsurime where they slant upwards.

Droopy eyes are usually associated with the soft, fragile or quiet type of moe character, whereas sharp eyes usually point (heh) towards strong willed or more intense ones. The Hiiragi twins from Lucky Star are a good example of those archetypes.

Ehhh gotta disagree there. I've been around both in the past few years. I'm a fair amount older than either.
14 year olds are literal children and that's the only way you can treat them. I have a couple of family members around this age. Well a bit older by this point...damn time keeps moving.
21 year olds are in a vague "young adult" state where it's simple to talk to them like adults but they'll be childishly ignorant about topics here and there. Still pretty much an adult by any measure. I've had a few kids around this age work for me during the summer for the past several years.

While that's certainly true, 14yo/s are def not anywhere near on the same level as 21yo/s, it is worth remembering what a big influence trauma can have in regards to stunted emotional maturity.

Of course that is to say, even with all that in mind we shouldn't wave off Koto's role in all this. In the end she's still the adult in this relationship and in a position of power over Aya as her de facto guardian, which automatically makes it her responsibility to act like it. Whether she's emotionally equipped to or not.
