What kind of name is "End" anyway? Short for Endo? lol

It's explained in the credits page. I understand the reasoning given in it, but I do not agree with translating the name like that. It's supposed to be a Japanese person with a Japanese name; there's not a single goddamn good reason to literally translate its meaning. Might as well translate any instance of "Alexander" that's remotely meaningful as "Defender of Men".

It depends if the meaning of his name is used as foreshadowing in the story or not. It would be a bit like if you translated Doom from an American comic into another language you would probably want to change his name to that new language's word for Doom since his name is intended to carry that meaning.

Edit: I just went back and read the translator's notes and that seems to be exactly what they did here. I think their reasoning is sound. Also, that is ominous as Hell for where the story is going with this guy.

Mamoru Oshii is equal parts genius and madman. He has created some absolutely beautiful and iconic works and some stuff that just defies description because it's so far off the wall.

I will watch this more so because it is Oshii than because it is yuri.

Perfect ending coming to a perfect series. I hope that when this is over it will inspire more Mangaka to make yuri.

the people who are asking what might compel a person to do something like this didn’t read lol. It says that his novel may have been plagiarized by somebody in the studio. Although what he did was terrible, they were also at fault for trying to steal someone else’s ideas. Disney committed the same crime to the guy who produced “Book of Life” and “El Tigre,” and these big name studios needed to be taught a lesson.

So far there hasn't been one scrap of evidence suggesting his allegation existed anywhere outside of his own diseased mind. It is wise to remember not everything that is spoken is necessarily true and this is even more so important to remember when the source is a violently unhinged mad man.

Time will tell if there was anything to the nut job's claim, but as it stands there is no reason to believe it is true.

People underestimate just how little time there is to find a way out of a burning building and how little smoke it actually takes to disorient as well as disable and overcome a person, not to mention the raw instinctual panic that can cause more trouble than anything. Time is more accurately measured in seconds than minutes.

Add into that how many people were in such a small building, and of course a who-could-ever-foresee-such-a-thing-during-a-normal-workday mentally ill man who had blocked exits intentionally in addition to actively seeking out and burning people who were trying to flee, and it's no mystery at all why so many perished, especially in stairwells or on their way to the roof.

It's all just ridiculously, needlessly tragic and I'm gonna be bummed out for a long time over it. And I hate that I almost feel like I have no right to feel so bummed out, because I'm so numb to such tragedy in the world at this point I usually feel nothing but a moment of grim acceptance as I add another human atrocity to the list in my head, so why is this "special"?

I think it's because of who these people were that makes this travesty more poignant than others at least for those who loved the creations of these many talented souls. It's one thing to hear that 20 random faceless people died and completely another to learn that just one person you knew and was fond of has passed away.

None of us knew these people personally but in every creation there is a glimpse of the heart and mind of its creator, even more so when it comes to works of art, and most of us here have been personally moved by the various works of art these people brought to the world. Even though we didn't know them personally, these were not random faceless people. These were the kind hearted souls that created some of the works of art we loved.

I think at least that is why it bothers me so much more with this particular travesty. These were people that mattered, people that actively made the world a better and brighter place for us all. People who didn't deserve to die and whose future contributions are now forever lost. That is what makes this so much sadder than past incidents.

It feels to me more like gang up on Miwa, period. Worse, her being high maintenance is purely an informed trait. We get told about it by the rest of the band, etc. -- all people who know Saeko way better than they know Miwa. I would go the other way and say Saeko is insensitive, and the other girl is insensitive and un-self-aware to boot. I do think the series takes Miwa's POV mostly, but she's the "outsider," so that's typical. Still, has anything been actually shown either in the series or the pilot that would indicate Saeko and the band are right?

It's all relative, but for the sort of crowd Saeko hangs out with that have very casual attitudes about sex and dating Miwa is definitely high maintenance. Just the fact she needs a serious emotional connection and a lot of nurturing in order for her prospective partner to even have a chance at bedding her makes her so, not to mention her various hang ups and how sensitive she is.

But in this context there is barely a case to be made. Those pants aren't going to do anything a bikini bottom won't do too. Or look at Sakurako's frilly bikini. It covers more and has the advantage of being air funnelling.
Kasumi's shirt being bright and thus not absorbing heat is fine, but a white bikini is nothing unusual. The only advantage of this shirt is that it gets so soaked with sweat that a breeze will cool her down easily (which will have her catch a cold real fast). Brilliant.

Yeah, it obviously got the ax so the mangaka had to end it abruptly. All in all at least it had some sort of an ending. I've seen much worse stop points for manga that were killed off mid stride.

That last chapter elevated this manga to a new level. Normally it's nothing amazing, but that dream sequence was something else.

Sixteen people died with another 10 in cardio pulmonary arrest which means their hearts stopped. Expect to hear about some crippling brain injuries among the survivors. This is beyond fucked.

Just saying... doesn't Maekawa seem a little... abusive? Like, she expects her friend to completely emotionally care for her, never leave her side, and always be there for emotional support. She uses the fact that her friend likes her and blatantly leads her on for the specific purpose of becoming an emotional leech and isolating her from others (i.e getting pissed when she needs to talk to others, even in a work setting). And most importantly she manipulates her emotionally, guilt tripping her into never leaving under any circumstances, even when being toyed with and used, else being an evil monster just like everyone else who's ever left her. Disclaimer: I still don't think Maekawa is a bad person, just has way to many issues to dump on a friend or spouse. This relationship is getting more and more toxic. It's getting kind of hard to read this and ship them together, Shizumu deserves so much better. Maybe I'm just overly sensitive to this because I've been exposed to it tho.

Yes her behavior is not healthy, although I would not go so far as to call it abusive and I think you are probably reading too much malice into her motivations. Maekawa is quite self aware about the harm her behavior can cause those she grows close to. It is the reason that despite having a pretty serious crush on Maekawa she goes out of her way to try and maintain a safe distance in their relationship even going so far as to outright warn Shizumu about her pattern of harmful behavior with past lovers.

The fact Maekawa really cares about and is attached to Shizumu is paradoxically the same reason she keeps her distance and refuses to date her because she is aware of the harm it would do. She doesn't want to end up using and discarding Shizumu the way she has all her past lovers.

Those who suffer from mental or emotional problems that are damaging to the people around them aren't always bad or malicious people. Many are haunted and guilt ridden by the inevitable hurt they cause their loved ones, but are unable to stop it. Some will choose to completely self isolate. Others may just keep everyone in their life at an arms length in an attempt to prevent it from happening again, but the crushing loneliness and fundamental human desire for intimacy gnaws away at their resolve to remain at a safe distance. This is a big part of what we are watching happen with Maekawa.

Shizumu has her own issues that have kept her from ever having an intimate relationship with another human being which differ from Maikawa's, but the end result is similar in that they are both very lonely people that desperately want to be closer to the other but are too deathly afraid and damaged to let it happen. You view the relationship as being very one sided as far as who is hurting who, but if you look back through the chapters you can see how even innocent and kind hearted Shizumu has ended up hurting Maikawa due to her various mental and emotional hang ups.

There is a reason this manga is titled Still Sick.

Also, for the record, this is one of my all time favorite manga on this site. I wish there were more subtle and intelligently written stories like this on here. I think I even put this above Bloom Into You which is basically the gold standard I judge all yuri dramas against.
