Yeah we're in agreement. I'm not saying they're reductive; that was someone else. I'm saying the opposite. They're just normal and there's so many examples of series with harmless nicknames and shorthands.

I might be more alone in this take but I genuinely hate how this series is often just reduced to being called " the green Yuri", it feels really reductive.

It feels more like a short nickname than anything that nefarious to me.

Yeah pretty much every series with a longer name has a "fan name," or a name for search and hashtags like "Magirevo," "MahoAko" etc. Japanese fans have one for nearly everything.

The official short name is Kinioto, but Green Yuri or TGSWIIWAGAA, at least as a sm tag for the second, has more traction outside of Japan.

Yeah, because Kinioto doesn't roll off the tongue in English as well as Green Yuri but still another cool nickname/shortened version of the Japanese name. I did forget about that one, though.

Another similar one is Arioto as a substitute for "A Yuri Story in Which a Girl Who Says That Girls Being Together is Unbelievable Will Completely Fall Within 100 Days." Who wants to say all that!? It's just as long in Japanese.

Yeah “Green Yuri” is a simple nickname for English speakers, easy to remember and you know what someone is talking about when they say it, so it gets the point across.

Also I don’t think nicknames are necessarily reductive, when they’re meant to be a casual and friendly way to address something with familiarity. Which I think is the case here.

As someone who has been keeping up with Hololive for over 5 years, before Holo EN was even announced, there's so many hellos and good byes along the road. Always sad when the good byes come, but I'm glad to have met them and said those sad good byes than not having ever known them.

Oh yeah I love this series but people on social treating it as "the good Yuri" in a very purity based way is always exhausting and frustrating. I genuinely worry what the fandom is going to be like when the anime comes out. It's also ironic because a lot of the super purity types that claim to be "good " because of their constant policing of media and enjoyment of it tend to be very toxic.

That's weirdly rude since I think everyone that wasn't sure if they'd become a couple or not was hoping that they would, at least on Dynasty. Characters never actually getting together is still pretty common in media, even if it's not as common, so there was an understandable concern until they did. Anyhow, I think since they got together and now we get adorable couple interactions everyone is having a great day when they read a new chapter of the series lmao
