I feel like the series is going to end after this arc.

Personally, I think the series was primarily meant to portray Mei's growth as an individual, and this is the perfect setup for it. This is her chance to prove that she can make her own decisions and become her own person instead of becoming someone that everyone else expects her to be. This is her opportunity to show that she can find her own happiness without someone else deciding it for her.

None of this could've been accomplished without Yuzu's help.

I want to see Mei find her own voice and stand up to her grandfather. I want to see Mei use all of the strength and support she has received from Yuzu over the course of the series to carve her own path for the future. I want to see Mei... finally realize that she is not alone.

Earlier, I had a crazy idea that the arc was going to play out like this:

• Mei will keep everything to herself, as usual, and gradually become more distant towards Yuzu.
• Yuzu will pick up on this, and perhaps turn to Tenchou-san (Mei's fiance) for advice.
• Tenchou, who has been given instructions to not tell Yuzu about Mei's situation, will give some kind of vague, but supportive advice that'll push Yuzu in the right direction.
• At this point, Mei will either tell Yuzu what's up, or Yuzu will find out by herself through other people (probably the latter).
• Yuzu and her friends come up with some kind of a grand scheme to stop the arranged marriage. But knowing Yuzu, who has been pushing for freedom throughout the entire series, might try to help and free the entire student body from their fiances.
• Mei, inspired by this, realizes that she needs to finally take action for once. Perhaps she'll try to call off the engagement with tenchou (who has never liked his strict upbringing and planned future). Tenchou might feel moved by this, and agree to it, vowing to carve his own path along the way.
• And if the student body sees Mei calling off her own engagement, they might be inspired to do the same as well.
• But the problem still remains: If Shou and Mei both refuse to take over the Aihara academy, then who will do it?

Oh wait!
Don't forget about Aihara Yuzu!

• Now imagine if Yuzu (who has now vowed to study harder to be seen as Mei's equal) actually took over the school. She could loosen the rules and let girls be girls! Students can finally stop being so uptight! Harumin's sister, who was moved by Yuzu's fighting spirit during the student council election arc, might actually approve of it! Nene can dye her hair blonde again!

Or... or maybe not.

The point is, Mei will most likely find the courage to step up and do something right for the first time in the series. Everyone will be happy.

As a random side note, while I like Harumi's dynamic with Yuzu, I personally can't see myself shipping them. Reason being, Harumi would only hold Yuzu back and stop her from being the person she wants to be. We've seen repeatedly in the series that Harumi has continuously tried to stop Yuzu from being herself (e.g. telling her to not look like a gyaru at school, trying to stop her from running in the student council election, begging her to dye her hair back when her sister visited, etc.), while Mei brings out a better person in Yuzu.

So... fingers crossed for Matsuri x Harumin. :^)

Will this be the first manga on this site ever to upgrade from the subtext tag to the yuri tag?

They really should. Even if Sakurako and Kasumi haven't been made "official" in the manga, at least Shouko and Seri are in love with each other. And Moka has a crush on Ruriko Koruri.

I read the first few chapters of this manga a while back. I stopped because it hurt my soul to read. Does it get less sad as it goes on?

Agreed. I couldn't get through the first couple of volumes, so I skipped most of the early chapters and started reading from the school trip arc and I found that it really went uphill from there.

Are the scenes (intentionally) out of order? Do the events of chapter 6 happen immediately before the end of chapter 5? :thinking:

@Seira: You need to save files with the Shift-JIS encoding (a.k.a. cp932), I would presume. If you use e.g. Notepad++, it automatically recognizes it and saves the file correctly. I think Sublime can do it as well with a Convert​To​UTF8 plugin installed.

Yes, I'm using Notepad++, but the game is giving me an unable to launch due to an unknown character (" or ' or ,) error ;(

@Artemiy: Thank you. I will give it another try when I get home. When I attempted it before (putting the updated patch.xp3 back and the whatnot), it worked the first time, but not on subsequent tries. It would tell me something about ASCII and Unicode (again, computer illiterate, hah), so I went into every single .ks file and saved it as Unicode. Still didn't work, sadly. For the most part, I've got the unpacking and repacking down though.

Although if you (or anyone else) want to get in touch, I frequently use Discord at Mayuri#0089.

EDIT: I've tried my hand at it again, but I'm still getting some errors related to being unable to read the script due to certain characters. I'm no longer getting the "you can't mix ASCII and Unicode together!" error, but something else entirely. I made a post on Fuwa about it just now to see what kind of answers I might get, haha. For the time being, I can just translate until I can get this fixed, ahh.

@Catria: I could definitely give Fuwanovel a try once I'm home. Yeah, thankfully lots of krkr extraction and repacking resources exist, haha.

What specifically are you having trouble with? Putting the text back in, encoding troubles, font display troubles, transforming it into a more convenient form for TL?

Also, I would imagine this to be a little annoying to translate, given that Rin often makes remarks on how Japanese works differently, and with English and Esperanto being much more similar than Japanese and Esperanto.

Yeah, putting text back in. I'm absolutely illiterate when it comes to tech, to be honest.

They do explain how to use Esperanto in Japanese, so it's not that bad. I basically skipped the Esperanto mini-games, but I still managed to understand what things meant based off of Rin's remarks (obviously, I couldn't keep up with Rei or Ruka though... thankfully, they have translations after your first clear). Almost, if not, every time Rin makes a mistake, it gets cleared up by Ruka as well.

@z471: I'm basing this off of my memory, but I believe it's the last option in the config menu. There's a button that says "I'm busy, I'll do it later" for the mini-games.

I played this game around a month ago and wanted to translate it, hah. I have the script extracted (shh), but I can't for the life of me do any programming, which has proved to be problematic. (If anyone wants to hmu, let me know ;))

Rin's hentai side is really showing in this doujin though. :^)

Also, for anyone in interested in the game, Juliamo (a portmanteau of "yuri" and "amo", which literally means "yuri love") is a parody of Esperanto, as mentioned in the notes section, but learning the language is not essential to progressing with the story. While Kotonoha Amrilato incorporates all of these mini-games to help you learn the language, you actually have the option to skip it altogether. The idea of learning a new language in a visual novel can be off-putting at first, especially with all of the weird letters in the alphabet, but the main reason why it's there is for the characters and their story.

It's super cute, and although it's a bit plain, I'd highly recommend checking it out. Ruka is adorable, and Rin is an absolute riot.

Whew, chapter 10!

Left off with Akira pulling Pure by the sleeve so as to not let her leave. Pure takes this as a cue to kiss Akira, but immediately apologizes. Akira reassures her by telling her she didn't dislike it.

Akira reflects on the way back, contemplating the idea that she might like Pure, but she's certain it isn't love. One thing she does believe is that she's becoming too dependent on Pure (more than likely seeing her as a replacement presence for her mother).

They go back to school, time to prep for cultural festival, classmates mock her for being too quiet, Pure shoots them a threatening look... the usual. As Pure and Akira are carrying boxes down the hall, Akira comments on how much she hates public speaking, but she has to get used to it if she wants to become a teacher. Here, Pure says she is confident that Akira will overcome her fear in the future and become as great of a teacher as her mother was. This confirms that she really is from the future.

They find themselves in an isolated classroom where Pure says she wants to cheer Akira on as best as possible, and then looks around to see if anyone is around. Akira tells her to just do it, and Pure kisses her. While Pure is wondering why Akira is okay with all of these kisses, she has a brief flashback to when future Akira (? or maybe even someone that looks like her) was about to kiss Pure while telling her she loves her. Then she forgets the memory, and wonders what that feeling of discomfort was.

Akira suggests that the two of them become "kiss friends", as in, more than friends, less than lovers... and they get to kiss whenever they want. Pure is all for this idea. Akira then thinks to herself that this is only dependence, nothing more. She suddenly gets a text message from someone.

Meanwhile, Ruri is bringing in art supplies for his master/mentor (a female artist... who I personally think looks a little like the woman in the flashback I mentioned earlier, but I could be WAY off the mark like I usually am, LOL), but he suddenly gets a phone call... from what seems to be his father, who he hates a LOT. Cue cliffhanger.

For Slow Start, someone tell me why...

I'm like, making a billion posts, but I'm noticing more little details from the raws that were missed.

• In the text message he sends to Kaoru in chapter 10 (https://dynasty-scans.com/chapters/my_unrequited_love_ch10#14), it says he was originally going to return the evening in the next day, but suddenly had to extend his business trip.

• In the next page (https://dynasty-scans.com/chapters/my_unrequited_love_ch10#15) on the third panel, she actually says: "What did he mean "by a few more days"? He always contacts me whenever he feels like it and says ambiguous things."

I don't think these points mean much, but I think not including these details kind of misses out on portraying the type of person Reiichi is to us readers.

The whole cheating argument aside, I'm actually interested in Uta's past.

It was mentioned very early on that Uta used to be unable to trust adults. I wonder why Uta adopted that mindset and how Kaoru played a role in Uta's past. Perhaps Uta's parents divorced due to some big conflict like... cheating? And perhaps, parents that have been unfaithful might have some sort of influence towards their children? There's no evidence whatsoever pointing towards that, so I'm blindly speculating for the heck of it!

Also, I found the short character biographies that came with the release of chapter 10. I'm not sure if it was translated or not (I don't see it under chapter 10 or any of the volume 2 extras), so I'll give it a go.

Uta: A girl who realized she had fallen in love with her childhood friend and now sister-in-law, Kaoru, during her older brother's wedding. Ever since Uta kissed Kaoru while the latter was asleep, she finally mustered up the resolve in order to get over her first love.

Kaoru: She is always caring for Uta and has wanted them to become more like family ever since she married Reiichi. She sells handmade goods, such as hats and accessories online.

Reiichi: A company employee and the older brother to Uta. His mind is a bit dull at times, to the point where he has even forgotten about his first wedding anniversary with Kaoru, but he treasures his wife and Uta a lot. It seems that he might be aware of the feelings Uta has for Kaoru...? (This line is loosely translated, but it is 100% implying that Reiichi knows more than he lets on.)

^ This makes me wonder when Reiichi noticed Uta's feelings for Kaoru. Perhaps back when the struggle with their family occurred? Who knows!

Kuroe: A cat-like outlaw that dislikes being shackled down by the rules. She is the person Uta always comes to whenever she needs love advice. It seems that she is going out with Uta's coworker, Miyabi?

The candy says: "Candy that will cheer you up" and gah, that's so cute.

@Ackerman, everything you're saying could work but it seems a little bit too far-fetched to really hold together. The simple thing would be that Reiichi is indeed cheating. I mean, there's innocent until proven otherwise, but that does seem like the soundest option story wise.

What about lying about the fact that he's back? If he's not cheating, he clearly doesn't really want to see Kaoru that much, at the very least. Not really trying to defend the guy, he doesn't need though, he seems affected enough by her accident : that reveals some kind of affection, maybe not love but at least some thing.

Oh hell, I'd be worried about anyone if I saw or heard them fall down a set of stairs and bleed profusely from their head (even though the head bleeds easily and all).

That is part of my thinking, Kaoru's circumstance but Ritsuko's as well. She can only say these words and I quote, "such a big difference compared to your brother." She can say this because she had been in relationship with Reiichi in the past. And please take note of this thought bubble which is in black before she said the comparison to Uta:

"she seems like the person who would say, "I would not forget your kindness."

Edit: That is why, at this point, I can't paint Reiichi or Ritsuko as "cheaters". Ritsuko's thoughts held weight for me as to ascertain my theory on Reiichi and their relationship before.

The original line in the raw was: 「この御恩は一生忘れませんとか言いだしそう」

Which would actually read to something like: "She seems like she wants to say "I will never forget this favor for the rest of my life!"" (as in Uta will forever be grateful towards Risako for calling the ambulance for Kaoru). I don't think it was meant to have any relevance towards Uta's reliability/Reiichi being unreliable and it was just kind of a silly passing thought.

EDIT: Ah, reading the next page of the raw, and the first dialogue bubble where Risako says:

Chaosteam: "Leaving that aside, you're such a reliable girl. I'm really impressed by your attitude."
Raw: 「それよりウタちゃんこそしっかりしててお姉さん感心しちゃう」
What I would've written: "That aside, you're quite the reliable girl, Uta-chan. Onee-san (Risako referring to herself - explained below) is impressed."

Risako actually refers to herself as "onee-san" in that text (sometimes slightly older women will refer to themselves as such towards children), and she calls Uta "Uta-chan". Although it's a normal way for her to address herself in front of Uta, she also refers to Reiichi as "onii-chan" (also normal) and then calls Uta "imouto-chan" (normal as well).

Normally, I wouldn't point it out because all of those things are nothing out of the ordinary, but given how Risako suddenly refers to Reiichi and Uta using family pronouns AND her next line:

Chaosteam: "It wouldn't seem odd even if I were her sister at this moment."
Raw: 「今ごろ私がお姉ちゃんになっててもおかしくなかったのよね」

I'm not so sure about anything anymore, LOL.

(I was a little confused at first reading this line, but I can confirm Risako is trying to say that it wouldn't be strange if she was Uta's older sister had things gone differently in the past and she ended up with Reiichi instead.)

I don't think there's anything concrete regarding Reiichi cheating on Kaoru with Risako, but Risako sure feels like she's hiding something.

1. I consider that forgetting things is Reiichi's waterloo and in that, he is unreliable as what Ritsuko said in comparison to Uta.

I don't have anything to say about your other points, but my interpretation of Risako's line in that scene was about how reliable Uta was in relation to Kaoru. As in, Uta is the type that would reliably be by Kaoru's side whenever the latter needs her, unlike Reiichi.

I don't think there's a lot of doubt about the cheating. When you lie and say you're on a company trip but actually you're in town and on the arm of your hot ex (and oh yes, as Seira points out, celebrating your birthday with said hot ex instead of with your wife), I don't think there are a ton of plausible explanations for that. And it doesn't seem like it would have been some kind of one-time slip, either. He's been "working late" and "away" a bunch recently. Quite simply, he has been systematically neglecting his wife so he can fuck someone else.

What she does about that is up to her. But I would not find leann123's solution at all a happy one.

He also forgot their one year marriage anniversary at the beginning of the story! Uta chalked it up to him being bad with keeping track of dates, but in hindsight, perhaps he didn't care enough to pen it into his little notebook (and I mean, he literally carries one around).

I feel like Kaoru genuinely "forgot" the events up until the accident in the beginning of the chapter. "Forgot" as in, it was probably being repressed and some part of her subconscious mind was still aware of it (hence her odd reactions such as trying to change the subject by telling Reiichi she lost her memories immediately leading up to the accident and her clenching her bedsheets when he left).

Looks to me like the floodgates were burst open when Uta gave Kaoru her smartphone back. We see that at first, Kaoru confuses the events when she mentions that she must've been with Risako at the time of the accident, but she ultimately remembers that it was actually Reiichi that was with Risako.

I think Reiichi is most likely cheating. I gave him the benefit of the doubt at first, but honestly, it was his birthday on the day he said he was going to be delayed by a few days coming home... but he ended up spending his birthday with Risako of all people.

Although, we still don't know what Reiichi sent Kaoru right before she fell.

To whoever uploaded this here, THANK YOU! Thank you very much for bringing this to my attention! I saw the first chapter, got interested, searched the danbooru, got hooked, then proceeded read the whole thing.
That was a solid 9/10 in my book, holy hell it's so fleshed out. Feels like reading a great cop detective drama story novel out of that. Enjoyed every panel of it, albeit its simplicity. Or maybe because its simplicity. Either way, I love this very much.

I did the exact same thing.

And as a big sap, there were a few scenes where I almost cried, LOL.
