Yeah this one was pretty boring and didn't go very far considering its length.

I noticed that "Opel convertible" comment... Vita, Signum and Zafira are all named after cars made by the brand Opel. Nanoha has a lot of characters named after cars and manufacturers, like Testarossa, Subaru, Veyron, etc.

At page 7 I realized this was from the YURI DRILL anthology which is like a manga textbook of yuri, and that this was Mochi au Lait giving a crash course on all of the biggest yuri tropes, with one page per trope.

I was like "now where's the senpai-kouhai yuri?"

Of course page 8 was the senpai-kouhai yuri page.

Hey, it's Tomekichi the Swap ⇔ Swap guy (girl??). The art does look noticeably older, probably because it's from 2011 (C81 if my mental math hasn't failed me), but still recognizably Tomekichi.

I mean, If sushi = hamburger and japan = US, then the "kotatsu" line should be:
"Let's all enjoy a traditional American meal around this utterly regular and absolutely ordinary American table".

You can interpret the comic as saying that Ace Attorney is inconsistent with their overlocalization: they certainly overlocalize, but they don't overlocalize everything.

But if you're just nitpicking the comic I posted because you're mad we criticized your translation, then that's a classic case of "the pot calling the kettle black".

I personally think Ace Attorney translation is perfect example of issues with overlocalizing things. And again, the main issue with this translation is that it doesn't capture the tone and meaning of original, even if localized.

I just went through this after watching the first episode of Das Finale and this is just gloriously gay. The art's like a mix of Yoshimura Kana (Murcielago) and Ayane, what with the foot fetish and all the edgy evil grins and action.

I saw the DeLorean (Back to the Future) reference and was amused. I was going to ask if BttF was really big in Japan or if Morinaga Milk just happened to be an otaku for it... then it turns out it was just the translator making shit up.

I feel like this was translated by the english equivalent of a weeaboo: doesn't actually know the language very well, throws in slang from all sorts of different dialects "because it's cool" so it's all over the place, sounds terrible to native (or even just semi-fluent) speakers. Reminds me of Commie. At least with bad professional dubs/subs/translations the translation is usually overlocalized to just one specific dialect of English.

And then people get defensive and go "hurr durr well translate it yourself!" But my passion for this manga is simply not high enough for me to take this project on. I feel like it's just a lazy way to dodge criticism of the translation. (I have actually walked the walk and translated stuff before. Search me up on this site)
