Gotta say - at the risk of seeming prudish - this choking shit the kids are supposedly into these days really disturbs me.

For the life of me, I will never get this whole Japanese dynamic where romance is apparently some kind of a battle to see who can make the other one blush, embarrass, or orgasm. Everything is "I won't lose to her!", or "that's so unfair ... if you say that to me ...", or "now I'll get my payback!". Jesus Christ, just get to it already and enjoy yourselves! I really prefer the authors who dispense with that sillyness.

^^ This ship is as "canon" as anything in Love Live. They constantly made little wink-wink allusions to it like this. Nobody in the anime actually got together. Rin and Hanayo's little cuddle scene in the movie was nothing more definitive than Nico getting jealous over Tsubasa sitting too close to Maki.

I interpreted this as just the common reference to a look of disappointment. As in "oh, don't make that face now ...c'mon, no fair ...", or "dang it, how can I say no to that face ..."

Nononon is so beautiful and has a fantastically voluptuous body. Totally the kind of girl that turned my head when I was in high school.

Still, girls like that tend to be self conscious as teenagers, and I love the way Torajirou accurately depicts that here. It makes her dynamic with Yumimi, her conventionally "popular-girl attractive" kouhai, all the more interesting and endearing. The Senpai actually looks up to her junior and seeks her validation - classic role reversal.

I think my favorite part of this one was where Yumimi actually pouts about not getting the instant reciprocal hug - it's the first time I remember seeing her break the pretense of being completely in control and above it all. Overall, this is the best Nononon x Yumimi chapter since Yumimi discretely reached behind her back for Nononon's hand - which was sweet and wonderful even though she tried to pass it off as a joke afterward (she wasn't fooling us ;-) ).

EDIT: Now that I said that, I wen't back and re-read Ch 238 - the "head on lap" chapter. I'd forgotten how good that was.

It just goes to show the popularity of Nico. People like shipping her. Tsundere is like blue jeans - it goes with everything.

Plus she's kind of a classic underdog - the hard worker with a chip on her shoulder because she doesn't have special talent like some around her. She doesn't get respected enough, so she overcompensates with attitude, pretense, and jaded grit. She can seem selfish and full of herself, but in reality she's a responsible and reliable child of hardship who is devoted to her family, knows the importance of success, and determined to not let life walk all over her. People root for that.

I also think Honoka is criminally under-shipped. She's the cutest, pluckiest, most irresistable protagonist ever foisted on an ensemble cast and deserves more attention.
