Tbh Ayane, although initially coming across as mature because of her Kuudere vibe is actually pretty immature and world-strange, like Blastaar mentioned with the hamburger, but also remember her abandoning Sana-chan because she wanted to see the face she'd make, as well as her social awkwardness stemming from immaturity or well, lack of growth, in general, e.g. in regards to having friends etc.
Although Ayane might be the more experienced one in regards to a romantic relationship, I'd say that's where her "topness" ends. Although even in the sexual regard she isn't as top heavy, as she's constantly encouraging Sana-chan to engage and take a lead as well (which I find excruciatingly adorable) which brings Ayane down from a top to more of an intermediate position or at least once Sana becomes more more comfortable with handholding, in my opinion at least. Though this could evolve any which way towards the future.

That could be explained by Ayane simply mimicking what she expected to be the norm, her previous relationship obviously left some shit there so she acting strange or agressive could be related to that.

Or...you know....the author simply decided to write something different since there is no editor breathing down their neck

Now imagine a collab between Taiyaki and Itou Hachi.

I'm actually surprised we haven't had much double divorce, double mom yuri with some step-sister love as a side dish. Also, make all of them actually blood related that comes as a special reveal at some point.

Scumbag husband had two families, the moms met at the funeral, decided to live together instead of selling the apartment to split, maybe even antagonistically made a bet of whoever leaves the apartment first loses it, yuri ensues with the mothers and the step sisters
Extra hard mode: double age gaps couples consistent of a mother and the daughter of the other marriage, they desperatly try to keep it hidden from one another..

There's the colab

May the mangaka pull more side jokes like that in the future, she has the sophisticated skills for it.

Lol
I think facing down that boss will be the real danger here, and repeatedly stepping on her head (usually 3 times) won't work....I mean...it will but she'll probably end up in jail.

Oooooooor, like Hinako already said before, maybe she is making the problem look bigger than it really is, maybe her mother's expectations are based on what Hinako told her were her objectives and not the other way around, maybe she is just cheering her daughter on on the goals she thought she set for herself.
But I very much doubt that.

I think its safe to say Subaru knows her sister is gay, that is why the interest Satou showen in Uno was interpreted as a chance for her sister to fibally love.

She probably had no idea of Uno's gender when she first picked up on Nee-chan's potentially romantic interest in her, what with the neutral pronouns and all. My read is that insofar she's concerned so long her overly serious and rather lonely neechan has finally found someone she's into, and who could thus hopefully break her out of that self-sacrificing gig she's gotten stuck on, in the first place then that person's gender is an entirely irrelevant detail.

If she did not know her sister has romantic feelings for women she could easely pass that interest and the way they interact as a friendship, at least on Satou's side. She may have not known that Uno was a woman at first but she didn't even flinch when she discovered she was and is insisting on the chance of her sister having a romantoc relation with her.
Those things make me think that Subaru knows that her sister likes women, or else she would not insist on a relation to the point of goading Uno forward

Satou is im responsible sibling mode, makes sense for her since she is a kind of serious person.
Can't wait to see those feelings develop

Come on, cut dad some slack. He saw her standing in the entranceway for a few minutes and probably all she said in his presence was “… Okay.” Unless he has a gaydar with the sensitivity set to 11 or his glasses are actually shipping goggles, he’s not gonna figure it out from just that. On the other hand, mom had a lot more info available and noticed all the hints. I’d like to see the parents show up again in a future chapter.

Just giving him a hard time because it's fun imagining him oblivious for the rest of his life

"Honey, I walked in on our daughter and her friend when they were alone earlier"

"oh dear....w-what did you see?"

"oh, I didn't see much but I noticed they were naked, maybe we need a new heating system since they were clinging to each other to exchange body warmth, such a nice friendship, to be able to help each other in a situation like this."

I know this was an important chapter, with some powerful emotions. However I can't get past the question; Why was the sugar in the refrigerator?

To keep the ants out of it.

Huh. That makes sense, I guess. I've never heard of it before though.

Our sugar is kept in the refrigerator, to keep the ants out. Seriously.

Yup, same here, sugar goes into the fridge

...

gets up off the couch, checks sugar for ants... puts ant-free sugar in the fridge

Those little sugar ants can be relentless, man. They send out scouts who leave a pheromone trail for the main body, and then later other ant species are also able to follow the trail.

I learned a lot about ants and sugar from the exterminator one day . . .

If you think sugar ants are vicious you should see rice ants
I traveled to a camp house with some friends last summer and the ants managed to punch a hole in a rice packet and were stealing whole grains, we decided to put the packet outside the house and see what happened, the little buggers emptied a 1kg pack of rice in an afternoon

For as well written as I find Uno-san - and I really do think she's incredibly well realized as a character, especially for a manga with a fairly cliche premise - I'm still not sold on Satou. She doesn't feel nearly as well written or realized or developed. I know we're only 5 chapters in so there's presumably still a lot of room for her to grow, but whether Satou is gay, or dense, or knows more than she lets on, if she likes Uno-san (she does), if she knows she likes Uno-san, etc. etc. I really hope she grows as a character soon.

Her sister, on the other hand? Great so far.

I think Satou is gay, and out to her sister, but resigned herself to the single life. Why? I don't know.

Probablty something to do with her dead parents and not bringing problems to Subaru, and focusing on rasing her

I'm from Porto Alegre, Brazil, waaaaay down in the south so no gorgeous beaches or lush green forests for me. Just Pine trees, a big ass river and a whole bunch of quero-queros (the most vicious bird there is)

The small details
Their shoes touching when she is feeding her the omelette, she noticing her mouth, she asking herself "what about me?", the way she is discovering what she feels is presented very nicely, and when she decided to see Satou just because, yeah, that was nice.
Not mentioning the "the moon is beautiful" comment, if I'm not mistaken that is an old timey way of saying I love you, right? Of course, it can be double meaning and I don't know if the mc herself is ready to accept herself that way.
I'm eagerly waiting what's more to come, the way she comes to terms with the feelings and attraction she feels for Satou.

And more and more I suspect that Satou has already come out for Subaru and she knows that Satou is gay, and if she hasn't said anything Subaru must have picked it up from a previous crush or something.

In the future I'd like to see Satou's relation with her parents too, if they knew about it too or not.

Never say I didn't try.

Thank you very much fellow mountain dweller, I moved to the mountains 6 years ago.

I love this series, it was one of the first yuri manga I ever read and it's awesome in my opinion
Kaoru is going to jail for presumably(but not really) bedding an underage while working as a teacher? this could be real dangerous for her and her ability to hold her job.

and Kozuka is becoming gayer and gayer, it won't be long before she notices "how long her eyelashes are"

I've always wondered about the "she has such long eyelashes" trope in yuri manga. Is this a Japanese thing, or are all yuri mangaka just copying that line off each other's works?

I always consider it a sign that the girl is recognizing the other one's features, and instead of saying "she has nice boobs" or " damn, that's ass for daaaays." they go with wholesome eyelashes.
But really, I think it's just something they add even as a joke nowadays since almost every series has the "eyelashes" moment, maybe a remnant of the class S where they were tentative into making the girls actually find the other girls hot, I don't know.

On the one hand, you’re right—it’s frustrating any time there’s a foreseeable and necessary turn/reversal of any kind in a narrative that gets abruptly thwarted; it’s the equivalent of rolling “go back three spaces” in a board game.

But I don’t always find it so objectionable as an element of characterization—at some level Landlady-san wants to confess, but can’t bring herself to do it just yet. (If she really wanted to, she could have done so once the interruption was over. So she obviously doesn’t.)

If the trope is a deal killer for you, that’s that. But I tend to think of partially-blurted-out confessions like this as basically being contained in a virtual thought balloon—readers will know how close the character came to actually confessing, but the other person doesn’t.

That and we did have some progress here, it's the first time Kozuka expressed some actual phisical interest on landlady, if landlady managed to confess there she would probably have been shot down by Kozuka since I don't think she is ready.
That call actually saved them

Big twist! the one who regrets it is actually the landlady, that was a nice chapter overall

and Kozuka is becoming gayer and gayer, it won't be long before she notices "how long her eyelashes are" and other substitutes for cheching a girl out that they use in manga, maybe even a "she smells so nice". and once that happens it's an express train to yuritown

I still can't fully trust or like Risako and I'm glad Kaoru isn't with her. Anyone that would do such an underhanded thing like what she's doing is messed up. She's lied and betrayed Kaoru too many times. She's selfish and a coward. If anything I believe she represents everything Uta isn't. She's selfish and mean while Uta is selfless and is always aware of how Kaoru is feeling. She's a coward that rather use manipulation to get closer to Kaoru while Uta was honest and straight up told her.

Maybe she is selfish but at the time they were in high school I believe she is way more confused and uncertain of her feelings than purposedly mean or manipulating, her tries to get Reiichi away from Kaoru and the subsequent attempts to get her jealous scream confused and desperate teenager more than manipulative genius to me, not to say that her actions arent hurtful because Maoru is very mcuh hurt.

I think Kaoru made an incorrect assumption here. She assumes Risako is jealous due to Kaoru spending close time with her boyfriend in the past, when the reason she's actually jealous is that someone other than her was close to Kaoru.

So, "Is this what love is?" is Risako questioning her own feelings toward Kaoru.

"Then I just can't understand. I've searched so many times for a reason, and now I feel gross unable to find one."

Shows that until now, Risako didn't identify her feelings toward Kaoru as romantic love. It also shows that said emotions confused her and she constantly questioned what she was feeling toward Kaoru. And she doesn't seem too happy with the revelation and wishes she could keep making up excuses for her feelings. Or at least that's how the phrasing makes it seem to come across.

That is the same impression I got from that exchange.

This chapter does give us insight to Risako, though, especially that sick scene. Her strategy to help Kaoru sucks because she has no idea what is going on because she's like 16. "Hmm, I feel bad when she pays attention to Reiichi, but I feel great around her the rest of the time. I know, if I pull his attention away, there won't be a problem anymore!" She's flailing, but she looks so together, you'd never guess it from the outside.

I get the same feeling, that even Risako doesn't quite know what she is feeling and just knew that she didn't want Kaoru near Reiichi

as for what happened, I'm starting to suspect that Risako wasn't the one cheating with Reiichi or maybe she was keeping him around to learn more about her, or fuck, maybe she was forcing herself on him to stupidly try to get rid of her gay.
that scene when Kaoru wants to confront her about what happened and Risako basicly dares her to make the question but Kaoru doesn't since if she heard the answer she was expecting her marriage would be over makes sense, being vague is good for Risako's goals she probably thinks

maybe the actual gay characters can realize they fell in love for the same dense girl and try to work something out between them, Uta x Risako now lol.
