I've only recently started reading Vivid (actually mostly just this match, one of the thumbnails awhile back here on Dynasty caught my eye when I was thinking that I should give the manga a shot and see if it was better than the anime) but the manga seems almost as crappy as the anime was which is an impressive accomplishment considering the anime just kinda cuts out in the middle of a tournament that it had been hyping up for several episodes.

The manga is a bit better than the anime, the anime didn't have good directing or animation, skipped some things from the manga and changed a few others. If you're not liking the manga so far it may not be worth reading the whole thing, the complete story has a similar tone.
Vivid Strike! is much better than the original Vivid anime if you want something in the same vein but better excecuted, even if Strike doesn't have Vivio's sweet mothers around.

After rereading this chapter in English I think this should have been written so Vivio, instead of blocking, evaded the Starlight Breaker in some way, at least partially. It's hard to believe that one of the strongest offensive spells that has the special attribute of breaking shields could be guarded by a weaker mage that is defined by having a weak defense from the start of this manga. Even if Nanoha is under the effects of her limiter she should still be stronger than Vivio since she clearly didn't have troubles with any of her other sparing partners that were around her daughter's level or higher. I will have to call bad writing on this chapter

The author just made her the age that was a better fit for the doujin, no need to overthink this, Alicia was also just a couple of years older than Fate in Innocent. Also the Nanoha wiki is known for having inaccurate and outdated information, be sure to always check the references if you use it.

Even in the weirdest realities Nanoha and Fate are fated together.

Honestly Subtext bores me. Mainstream manga is already full of ambiguously close relationships between girls, I go for yuri to get solid hookups.

If something is ambiguous it doesn't meet the requirements to be subtext. Subtext means that it's part of the story but it's not explicitly portrayed.
What you're most likely looking are explicit yuri manga where yuri is the main genre of the story, but Watamote isn't that, Watamote is basically a SoL with one explicit yuri character and some hinted situations that may or may not be interpreted as yuri from a few others.

It's becoming more yuri by every chapter, now a handful of females are obsessed with Tomoko, but there is nothing explicit other than one character with a giant crush on the protagonist.
