This is basically what I live for on the weekends. The simplistic art manages to perfectly capture the tone of the chapter. As an artist I have immense respect for the skill it takes to properly convey such an array of facial expressions. Thanks to halmoni for the speedy translations [google translate DEFINITELY can not handle colloquial Korean] and thanks to Samba for the great story.

Sometimes, even I can't handle the colloquial Korean. I always have to double/triple check references to make sure my translations are correct, since there's quite a bit of slang. Koreans probably create on average 5 billion slang words a day. They'll shorten any phrase or word. If only Google translate could actually do its job and translate accurately :/

It's becoming more apparent to me that people are finding my obliviousness to this information incredulous, so I'll put things into better context.
I grew up in a country where (speaking only observationally as I have recently left and now live in the west) cars were older models (as I do not see them here), and now speaking personally, broke down when left in the garage for 3 months (or is the case for my dad's car back home) I GENUINELY was asking given that I am not Korean and have no idea how cars there are treated, function, and work. Also, cars were never just 'around' where I come from. A middle class family would have one, which was the parent's car, the adult children don't unless you were incredibly wealthy (my cousin who's lived here all her life find it strange for me, a 22 year old, to not have a license even, which is common from where I'm from). I'm new to even seeing convertibles I'm sorry if it offends you all for me to have thought it strange and device-like.

You should have mentioned your background as a justification for why you thought the car in garage thing was weird. So now people can actually understand why you're saying that. The first thing you said wasn't, "Hey how do cars work in Korea? Could someone explain? insert backstory here", it was about how having a car so readily available was too convenient for the plot/not realistic based on your own personal, one of a kind experience.

But in most first world countries (not just Korea), having a car isn't that big of a deal. I mean, if you've ever seen or been to a modern city, I would assume it's not that difficult to figure out that cars aren't a rarity.

A lot of manhwa/webtoons usually run for quite a long time. FF is far from over. I mean, we're going to need at least another 100 chapters before we see Seol-a and No-rae kiss, so it's probably going to continue for a while.

"Why did you let me hear those words" That line got me thinking, is it possible that No-Rae was a victim of one of those 'champion', where the guy only approached No-Rae to score? That's why she is so hurt and decided to shut her heart for good. Now I'm getting even more curious about No-Rae's past relationship, and I'm hoping that will get a chapter about that soon.

I thought the "Why did you let me hear those words/Why did you make me hear things like that" line was more like No-rae being "Why were you so reckless, to the point where I keep hearing these terrible rumors about you?". No-rae was being an asshat, but the whole scene where she's struggling to tell Seol-a how she's constantly worried about her because of all those rumors, really broke my heart. She wants to tell her, but at the same time she can't, since she doesn't want to hurt Seol-a.

I see it as a defense mechanism as well. I've seen comments (not necessarily here) calling No-rae a bitch or saying she's a bad person (as if they've forgotten every single chapter leading up to the recent ones) but, I believe she's mainly afraid.

I'm pretty sure the people who called her a bitch haven't been paying attention for the past like, 10 chapters.

Halmoni, you missed a '!' on line 50 in your translation: "..then what's your deal?" In the comic there's a '?!' after what I suppose you translated into "deal." Thought you'd like to know :)

Oh snap I just realized that too. I haven't seen QCO around in a while, so I honestly don't know what's going on. But maybe she knows that I don't like having Korean raws floating around for Koreans to download? I do have a source for raws to refer to for translation/quality checks, but I won't be spreading the link around (if you do know where to find it, kudos to you lol). There are people out there who put raws up.

It's also not very difficult to make an account on comico and use points to see older chapters. You get 20 points or something for logging in, and I've never had a problem with running out of points while unlocking older chapters. If anyone needs help making an account, let me know.

I think most Korean artists just use blogs, Pixiv, or Twitter. I haven't seen an exclusively Korean site like Pixiv, because most artists would probably just opt to use Pixiv since you can change the language to Korean.

FF is the #1 webtoon on comico, but I don't think it's super popular compared to other webtoons in general. Manhwa like "Cheese in the Trap" consistently get 20-30k ratings per chapter, while FF gets around 5-6k. I'm guessing yuri just isn't the most happening thing in Korea (like many other countries), although it's great that FF is as popular as it is right now.

I agree. I'm going to give Kyeong-woo the benefit of the doubt and say we wasn't about to assault Seol-ah whilst she's drunk. I mean he genuinely did seem concerned from some of the panels.

The 'I got found out' and 'fucking embarrassing' could perhaps be because No-rae saw through his bravado. He doesn't actually have the balls to say 'directly' that he likes someone and has to resort to 'shameful tactics' such as getting them to open up to him via a bit of alcohol.

I don't think Kyung-woo planned on using brute force, but rather he would've used Seol-a's drunken state to coerce her into having sex. I was honestly starting to doubt the rumors until the very end, when he said "I got found out", and when he kept insisting on taking Seol-a home. Keep in mind that he also went to convenience store to buy "something", which was most likely condoms. He only looked concerned because he was trying to portray the image of being an innocent, sweet underclassman, which he would use to lure Seol-a.

Using alcohol to have someone open up to you definitely does not come across as a "shameful tactic" in my opinion. Alcohol is an important part of Korean culture, and drinking is a common way to get to know others. In fact, not going drinking with your friends or co-workers would be considered weird. The "shameful tactic" in this case was definitely referring to using alcohol to get into someone's pants.

As a general clarification, the "Tsk tsk, she's completely wasted" comment came from a random male passerby, not Kyung-woo.

You can find the thread if you go to the /u/ catalog and use ctrl+f to search for "Fluttering Feelings". But the /u/ FF threads basically went to shit like, 3 threads ago, which is why we moved to YP. Too many butthurt 4chan elitists complaining about the influx of new users from tumblr or dynasty.

QCO and jrdp_18 are usually in charge of the raws and stuff. QCO doesn't have a set schedule for releasing raws, but I know jrdp has been having internet problems lately (which is why our chapter 6 release has also been delayed).

Because I feel like that was why she called No-rae (in this regard, I'm pleased...because if it's true, Seol-a was almost as responsible for not being taken advantage of as No-rae was), although her original intention was just to get No-rae to go along with her...not take her home.

I personally thought she had a serious expression because she wasn't expecting No-rae to pick up. Or she was thinking about their whole being distant/sort-of-fighting relationship. But I do agree that it could be possible that Seol-a caught on to Kyung-woo's plans though, especially because of the sketchy "I just had to buy something at the convenience store" remark earlier, she stared into his eyes to maybe look for any bad intentions, and she's the one who told Kyung-woo to stop and get her some water (so maybe she could buy some time to get help).

I think she's referring to the fact that she thinks she misunderstood (when, we know in fact, that she most certainly did not) Kyung-woo's intentions, and lashed out at him. She's regretting her actions and punishing herself, when she has no idea how heroic she actually was. Argh. Poor No-Rae. I'm wondering how long she's going to have to suffer with this and to how far her self-punishment will escalate. She wouldn't even let herself touch Seol-a in the last panel.

Now, I wish I could avoid any negativity, but I need to get this off my chest: all this complaining about No-rae overhearing some gossip about Seol-a and it amounted to ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! This chapter would have been 99% the exact same if that scene was removed. All it did was give No-rae a bit of guilt about her reaction to it. So next time something like this comes up, don't jump to conclusions and start bashing before you even see the end result. It's really annoying to read and quite frankly made my reading of this chapter just a teensy weensy bit less enjoyable than if I didn't have to hear all that ridiculous negativity.

I don't ask for hyper-realism either. Any fiction demands some measure of suspension of disbelief. But sometimes, it's just too much when the author seems to aim for a realistic setting and characters (like FF) but derails it by using weak and unrealistic plot devices to make major progresses in the story.

In real life, it wouldn't be that easy of course, but it's not based on randomness. The initial encounter, at the sliding doors, is random, but it's not unlikely. You have to have a starting point in the story.

Like Martian and I already explained before, No-rae and Sun Jing are two completely different characters, and Their Story and FF are two completely different stories. It doesn't make sense to compare the two. Your definition of what exactly "random" means isn't crystal clear either. What makes Their Story's initial encounter "unlikely", while No-rae overhearing the guys is flat out "unrealistic"?

She's prone to use violence to make things move forward no? An attempt on Seol-a's life to start the story, and now, probably, a foiled rape attempt to get them closer.

Again, another unjustified assumption towards Ssamba. Seol-a and No-rae have had plenty of relationship developments in the story without violence. And please don't use a personal preference to determine what's a normal reaction or not. I, for one, did not find No-rae's reaction excessive or strange at all. It wasn't just a "random guy", it was an ex-boyfriend who was strangling Seol-a to death.

Look, I'm not here to argue about semantics, but to share my opinions about a story we enjoy. I wouldn't post in this thread if I disliked FF. My critics were pretty minor points of details and it doesn't make FF a less enjoyable story and the characters any less lovable.

Well you see, the thing is, none of us particularly want to hear your negative opinions about a manhwa that we love. I honestly can't tell sometimes if you actually enjoy FF, because it always seems like you're attempting to bash it one way or another. I mean if I had an unpopular criticism about a manga, I wouldn't go on that manga's forum thread to post it, and then suddenly expect other fans to respect my criticism without a word of rebuttal. Your critiques on said "minor points of details" sounded more like you were directly criticizing Ssamba's storytelling skills as well as FF's whole plot in general. It's too "unrealistic" (but at the same time you don't want shit to get too real), events are only contrived plot devices to conveniently fill in plot holes, and some are just too cartoonish for your tastes. Which is pretty ironic, considering you think Their Story is a prime example of how realism should be done.

Let me give you the definition of "cartoonish", btw.
Cartoonish (adj): resembling a cartoon or caricature.
Cartoon (noun): a sketch or drawing, usually HUMOROUS, as in a newspaper or periodical, symbolizing, satirizing, or caricaturing some action, subject, or person of popular interest.

So the way you used it to describe how No-rae did not suffer consequences directly in the manhwa (anything could have happened between chapters or during time skips; we shouldn't assume, and it's not like any of us are experts on Korean law anyways) was clearly misusage of the word.

There's just a bit of violence at the start, but it's settled in a cartoonish way, with no actual consequences. Hitting someone with a baseball bat on the head hard enough to make them pass-out is no small feat (especially for a tiny girl like No-rae) and in real life, she probably would have had to appear in court. The guy is guilty, but assaulting someone is serious business.

I don't quite see how the event itself was "cartoonish" in any way. Yes, it was treated more comically after it had happened, but I certainly wasn't laughing when No-rae actually hit the dude.

There's a fine line between plain assault and self defense (or in this case defense of others). I doubt No-rae would have been legally punished for her actions, considering Seol-a could have died from strangulation.

Seol-a is pronounced more like "Suh-ra" and No-rae is pronounced "Noh-reh".

I never said I wanted it to take some kind of dark realistic route. This isn't what this story is about, obviously and I don't want it to be another way; it's the story Ssamba is writing and she's the one to set the tone, not me.

But I kind of frown at Deux Ex Machinas. That's one of my pet peeves. External unlikely events or characters that miraculously make the characters "realize their feelings" and advance the plot. It sometimes looks like a trick, because the author doesn't know how to handle the progression of the relationship.

That's why, while I like FF a lot, I prefer "Their Story". The situations are somewhat similar, but Sun Jing takes the matters in hand and never relies on some miracle to make the relationship happen. She works hard to make it happen. That's the level of realism I seek in a good story, not drama, rapes and angst to the max.

FF and Their Story are completely different; it doesn't make much sense to compare the two. FF is full of drama, angst, confusion, etc., while Their Story is more like a simple, comedic slice of life story without many complications. Sun Jing likes Qiu Tong, and they eventually grow closer and blah blah blah. You don't see Sun Jing ever questioning her feelings for Qiu Tong, and you don't see any major threats to their relationship (thus far). It's always a happy setting. I don't see how lacking drama/a real plot makes a story "realistic" in any way. No-rae and Sun Jing are two different characters, so they're not going to react the same way. No-rae doesn't even want to admit that she has feelings for Seol-a and she's been hurt by love in the past, so she ends up pushing her away. Sun Jing is headstrong, optimistic, and youthful; she wants to get closer and closer to Qiu Tong no matter what.

I'm pretty sure Ssamba knows what they're doing. It's not like they went "Oh shit No-rae and Seol-a are avoiding each other WHAT SHOULD I DO ok ok No-rae can go save Seol-a or something lmao". A deus ex machina would be more like some Seol-rae fanboy/fangirl character appears out of the blue to smack Kyung-woo upside the head and tell Seol-a that No-rae loves her, and then they all live happily ever after.
