Speaking of which, how come Khara is not Kara? Also what is "Barnet" which Arthur was talking about in 36 when he gave his own history to Ichika? A weapon, or the battle of Barnet?

Khara we went with after it got used for a chapter title (which only arise in the tanks). Supposedly it's the Battle of Barnet, but it was only brought to my attention after the chapter got released.

I'm inclined to believe that the romanizations used in ch37 were something Show made up on the spot cos he needed some fancy English for a couple of reasons. 1. He wrote down lilu as "lil" when lilu is the correct spelling, and 2. The name Al-Kamil shares its name with an Egyptian sultan, which falls pretty close in line with this character's heritage, whereas "Alcamirl" very much looks like Show just plonked アルカーミル into DeepL (which through my own testing comes up with "Alkermill") and turned some Ks into Cs to look fancy.

What i was triying to say is that if you train with the idea of avoiding pain, you 're probably not gonna improve nor lose weight in a meanigfull way

Okay, so having translated the next chapter, which begins with Ritsu celebrating upon reaching 49.8 kg, re-reading the first chapter, noticing something amiss and double-checking the RAWs, it turns out that I had done a translation goof and she actually wanted to get down to "40kg代" i.e. the 40.0-49.9kg range, as opposed to exactly 40kg.

I'd imagine the mods did some evaluation and figured it wasn't a very well-meaning tag, what with it heavily leaning into the "losing virginity = breaking hymen" stereotype.

Most of the goblins seem like parodies of various yankii types, yeah, but the one doing graffiti has Dreadlocks so, that seems specifically targeted at black people to me. combined with manga’s statement that goblins are soulless monsters who must be exterminated, and it’s starts to seem maybe a lil’bit racist?

Hmm, feels like a stretch to me. Maybe if all the goblins were rocking distinctly PoC-fashion that'd be dubious, but to me they just seem to be taking rebellious hairstyles from all across the board. Not to mention there's a fair few Asians who have worn dreadlocks, such as that "one thousand troops" guy from Konami decades ago. (Whether they should is another story I won't bother touching here.) And tbh, there's no point in getting overanalytical about bog-standard JRPG staples.

The goblin designs or the graffiti doodle? It just occured to me that we haven't really clarified whether we're arguing about "the goblin designs are racist" or "this is racist towards goblins". Cos design-wise they just seem to be the typical Japanese yankee type.

I think it's more that a lot of fantasy races, or at least the characterizations applied to them, tend to be modelled after extremeley dated stereotypes of ancient civilizations (voodoo tribes and the like).

I don't know a single bit about detective conan but still this is extremely cute

wow, gotta say this is the first time I've met people not knowing such a basic thing about Conan. I'm honestly mindblown right now lol.

To be fair, it's not an easy series to get into, what with the anime having more episodes than One Piece and many of the earlier episodes aren't even avaialable on the usual streaming services (I believe Netflix's choice episodes are somewhere in the 500s iirc?). A lot of it is episodic, mind you (ie. Conan solves a murder, knocks a police officer out and make it looks like he solved it, and you're left wondering how all these elementary school kids haven't been traumatised by all this death they experience on a regular basis the first episode has them witness a literal decapitation ffs) I'd imagine you'd need some sort of cheat guide for episodes with actual story arcs.
