I actually am starting to enjoy Yuki as a character since it's kinda refreshing to see a character that is openly into Tae vs Mai who is always written as an enigma. I'm also starting to cheer for Yuki instead since she provides a storyline that enables it (cheering for the underdog), but it's a weird spot in the story since she has 0 chances and has greatly taken focus away from the main dynamic. So overall I'm unsure how to feel about this arc. Since there's like 0 chances for Yuki, feels pretty pointless and unnecessary to just use her character to make Tae and Mai closer. It's like I rather just read more about Tae and Mai with the old format then.

I think new "loli" is Mai's mom? They see to have the same hair color....edit: wait nvm I went back to look again and her hair color is closer to Yuki's friend so prob one of the big sisters she mentioned?

I finally watched the first episode of MagiReco and I personally thought the filler they added was pretty boring.

I (who read a few chapters before) watched it with my gf (who didn't read it before) and we both did agree that the first ep was pretty slow. I don't think it's necessarily filler, but it wasn't very interesting material since we were just waiting for something to happen.

But I also understood why they put the "beginning" of the story at the end of episode 1 because if they went into the talk with the king and stuff after, it'd feel like a very very weird episode 1 so I don't blame how they structured ep 1. They needed something to hook viewers to watch more than 1 episode so that is the hook.

Even though ep 1 is boring, I can see more people sticking it out and then getting intrigued to continue onto episode 2 vs if they watched an info dumpy episode 1 that ends with Euphie moving in with Anis. And yeah my gf did want to watch another episode after watching so it worked lol. (I also showed her some of the manga chapters that took place after ep 1 since she was curious and she agreed it'd be weird for that to be in ep 1)

Seriously one of the best stories of bullying redemption arcs I've ever read. Love how they portray Ruri's conflicting feelings and also how her feelings are never ignored or belittled.

Akiyama Haru loves her slow burn and the first 5 chapters of het would not have been that dragged out if she knew it was ending in only 2 volumes. We only got 1 chapter from Tsuzuki's pov which I'm sure we would have gotten a couple more of if it had continued longer. I think the fact that it doesn't feel axed to you is a testament to Akiyama's writing skill.

You are assuming that she meant for this to be a slow burn because Octave was. But like....there are also several one shots on her resume. Not every story from an author is necessarily planned to be the same length. Her other series are 3 and 4 volumes long. Octave is her longest work by a big margin, I think it's easy to argue that it's not necessarily representative.

And again, how would this be longer without fundamentally changing the characters? I'm just not seeing it.

I answered the how it could be longer in this response where I also acknowledged that it probably wouldn't be as long as Octave was even if it continued further.

I think we just have to agree to disagree on whether we believe it was cut short or not. I think it's pretty rare in general for authors to publicly acknowledge their story was axed and most of the time we readers can only rely on how the pacing of the story feels to us. I know there's a lot of series where the the ending is rushed because the author wrote themselves into a corner, or they were just done with it or they had planned on a short story from the start so I understand how you feel when people throw the "axed" comment on everything, but I just don't feel that for this series. The pacing and tone from the chapters before the announcement to after the announcement was just too different and unusual from the pacing I'm familiar with of her other works (aside from Octave).

Based on her announcement on twitter (through machine translate) it reads like she wanted to continue on longer. I don't think she would word it like wanting to focus on writing the end so she won't need to write more and writing it so the readers would have been happy to have read it if it wasnt cut shorter than planned.

Yeah, I went back and read them. I don't see how you're getting that at all. Some of the fans say they wanted to continue longer, and she responds with pretty generic "thank you" messages, but that doesn't say anything about how she feels. She says she hopes to create a good manuscript and that she hopes everybody likes the story. She estimates how long it will take to write the ending. There's nothing about the language in either of those tweets that suggests she had to cut it short.

I got the impression of axed from her tweets since it kinda read to me like "It's gonna end soon even though I know the story just started so I'm gonna do my best to complete all the plot lines in these last 3 chapters." That's my interpretation of it. You had a different one and that's cool too.

So yeah, this ending is what I have been expecting for several chapters? Edit: Honestly, I don't really see how you could make it longer if you wanted to. Brick wall is brick wall, yo.

Just saw this part of the original post, but the story definitely could have been a bit longer. While I don't think it would be as long as Octave was (maybe 1 more volume), Akiyama could always surprise us because I think there were plenty of parts Octave could have ended perfectly fine before it actually ended (and it could have continued on even longer than that!).

She loves drama so she could easily written in more conflict. I think we would have had more time to wallow in Kashiwai's angst. Had more time to see her push and pull with coming to terms with polyamory and how she could or couldn't fit into the polycule. Maybe get a few chapters of Tsuzuki's headspace or more conflict between Kashiwai and her coworkers. We'd be able to see Kashiwai coming to terms with her sexuality and how she met her new partner. Basically we'd see the same story, but with more time to breathe and to let actions and feelings settle in between the arcs.

I know a lot of people would groan at the dragged out angst and drama, but I live for that shit and I love how Akiyama Haru tells those stories.

Who says it was axed? I mean, sincerely, was there a twitter post I missed somewhere where the author lamented having to cut the story short, or are people just assuming it was cancelled because they assumed it was intended to be a long story?

Sorry, but the author really announced a while ago on twitter that the story was going to end with the next 3 chapters. If you look back on the comments, there should be a link. I doubt she wanted to end it so soon.

I think it's obvious the author had planned things with Jun, Fukunaga, Hiroki and Awa but all these threads were cut short.

Announcing the story is going to end doesn't mean it was cancelled, it just means it's going to end. Every story gets a "here is when the end is" announcement. That's not evidence of cancellation.

I disagree that it's obvious. There's no hanging plot threads, every character played a particular role in the story and all of those roles were fulfilled. I genuinely see no evidence that the story was cut short.

Ofc I could be wrong and maybe someone who understands Japanese can give more clarification, but I think it was axed. Looking at some of the Japanese reader's tweets reacting to her announcement, it seems like they believe it was axed as well.

The ending was nice. I do think this is how Akiyama probably intended for this story to end, but it's too bad we didn't get to see all the character growth to lead to this point. I hope Akiyama doesn't take too long to release her next work.

Thanks for scanlating this!

At first I couldn't believe how of all games the first game she gave two non gamers to play was overcooked, but then I remembered I also tried playing with my parents who don't game before too xD. It was an experience

And now finally another come out and is not even finished. Someone can explain to me whant happened with the author?

She's done this couple times before and honestly I'm okay with it since I rather mangaka not destroy their health over meeting deadlines. They get fixed in the volume releases and it doesn't happen very often anyway (this was also a rare double chapter release).

Overall a nice wholesome end to this arc. I didn't mind this arc at all and I thought Kana and Manami were interesting and entertaining characters. As side characters, their arc made much more sense than 80% of the arcs where random new side characters popped out of nowhere. At least Kana and Manami have been here from the beginning.

I am ready for the story to go back to the usual cast though lol

While not a bad chapter and i always love it when Harumin is the focus, the whole talk they had felt a lil too much like the author was writing directly to the reader instead of through the characters' stories. Like it felt too info dumpy and like a lecture if that makes sense lol.

That sense was reinforced for me by what seemed like a lot of pretty random framing once Kana and Harumin sat down together and started talking.

Sarubouta’s not exactly meticulous in the choice of shots within a scene anyway, but this time I really noticed that the shot/reverse shots were kind of awkward in regard to who is speaking, the cutaway shots (like the one of Kana’s shoes or of Harumin’s back) were pretty unmotivated, and the overhead shots just seemed thrown in to add variety to a talky scene.

And I’m not sure what to make of the composition of the bottom panel here (I just saw a “how-to” page for aspiring cartoonists that said, “Draw your word balloons in first to make sure you have room for your picture.” Seems like good advice.):

https://dynasty-scans.com/chapters/citrus_september_7th#13

I think it also didn't help that 85% of the chapter was just Kana talking and Harumin just sitting there like a statue lol. And then when Harumin does talk it's just like one page and then Kana goes on to further clarify to the reader the lesson she just learned xD. It doesn't flow like a natural conversation.

aw this was a really good chapter. good mix of slice of life, wholesome character growth and movement of the plot. i love seeing the two gangs interact with each other in their daily lives so it's really cool to see them actually reach out to each other to hang out too.

Fuck this lol.
"I love you"
series ends
What a joke, why are most yuri series like this? It's a complete joke

Well tbf most romance series in general are like this, not just yuri. Unless it's extended by love triangle/harem "who is the MC gonna end up with???" nonsense, most romance series ends after the MC and love interest confess and get together.

It's super rare to see stories continue to explore the nitty gritty of staying in a relationship without padding out the series by doing things like focusing on side pairings (Anemone is in Heat) or other characters (Whispering You a Love Song). Or if they do still focus on the main pair, but it's mostly fluff compared to the drama of the pre-dating arc, it ends up feeling a bit dull and lackluster imo (Can't Defy the Lonely Girl). This is why How Do You Relationship is such a gem.

While I would have liked a few more chapters of Asahi and Hinako exploring couple life together, I couldn't see it being dragged for more than a volume at most. The main point of the story was about both Hinako and Asahi's character growth as people (Hinako learning to be more self accepting and Asahi learning to live a life that doesnt revolve around caring for her sister). They accomplished that fairly early on, so aside from adding 1 or 2 chapters before the confession so it didn't feel as rushed and a 1 or 2 chapters of fluffy couple life, the story it wanted to tell was done.

It'd be easier to give recs if you can let us know what you're in the mood for or give examples of series you've read and liked.

hello yes why didn't this story i supposedly enjoyed abandon everything it's built to end exactly like every other romance story idgi

Because the point is that ace deserve the same happy ending as everyone else?

i think (hope?) they are being sarcastic and mocking other posters lol

I was preparing myself for an underwhelming last chapter since I saw people mention it in spoilers months before that there was no kiss and stuff, but it wasn't bad at all. Other than the last few chapters being rushed af and yeah you can feel the loss of enthusiasm from the author, it tied up everything really neatly and it was nice to see an actual ace yuri couple.

To those who still see this ending as platonic love, how can you say that when they specifically had that whole Fuuka arc to explain how Asahi's feelings toward Hinako is very different and NOT platonic friendship love. If it was just friendship with Hinako, it'd end the same way it ended with Fuuka. They even made a point of Hinako saying she "loves" Fuuka as well, but that it was still a different love compared to the love she felt toward Asahi.

Anyway I do think the 2nd half of this series was not as engaging as the 1st half, but I still really enjoyed it overall.

^ I love it! It's very feel good and every ep leaves me with fuzzy feelings. It's very comfy, but not TOO comfy like yurucamp (i always end up getting sleepy watching Yurucamp bc of how comfy it is lol).

Miku is also one of the cutest tsunderes ever. It's kinda been a while since I've seen such a traditional tsundere in a "yuri" anime. It's most likely gonna stay subtext, but Miku is as gay as you can be in a "non-yuri" cgdct show.
