Anyway, updated the chart.

Thanks! Is there a possibility to pin that post somehow, so it's always visible?

XD Hahahaha. That person! XD
Just like a Yuri fan to be content with whatever.

There is so much truth in your post, now I feel sad. :-(

The last box on this page should probably read "But nobody came" for an Undertale reference. ;D

Will that do?

(it'll need to be updated of course…)

Nice! I think there were more characters, though, e.g. I vaguely remember Yurine having a jealous sister... didn't she?

Someone should make a comprehensive character chart with relationship arrows & all that fancy stuff for those who are unable to keep up with the couples in this series.

While I remember all the couples, their faces, stories, & dynamics, I don't know most of the names, so I'll benefit from this, too lol

...do the words "Combinatorial Explosion" mean anything to you?

No, first time hearing about it. So you're saying there're way too many characters & new ones coming in, so it's a pain to do it?

Pretty much, yeah. :D You are free to do it, I was just warning that the amount of work that goes into making such a chart for a series like this grows exponentially as the number of characters increases.

Yeah, Canno never showed any inclination to leave any of her characters out of love and alone. She makes light drama, not aaaaaangst.

Every pairings she made until now worked out somehow.

Except for the senpai that graduated and went to a school for astronomy, but I think she was suppose to be asexual anyways.

Her one true love is sugar.

I can't give any proof, since it's second hand for me too, but supposedly it's a story about Sayuri jumping to parallel worlds trying to protect Yoriko from death that always happens on her 21st birthday, if they are together. In the end, she has to refrain from meeting Yoriko at all, which leads to survival of them both, and they happen to meet after the ominous date, falling in love at first sight.

That makes sense, so it's probably fake. >__>

I feel like this last chapter was the only part of the story the author really wanted to tell: notice how it is so much easier to follow than the six that came before it. It's like the author wanted to make a happy smutty story all along, but rather than drawing a Miraesque hentai one-shot, they felt necessary to give it a backstory and just piled up enough drama to fill a single volume before they could finally get the good part they really wanted to write and draw.

I uh, don't really get this, can someone explain

Mercy(Doctor Angela) and D.Va (Hana) hung out together and fell in love. There was going to be a civil war of sorts and Mercy and D.Va had ideologies of the opposing sides. Rather than fight D.va, Mercy instead plotted to make sure D.va would not be able to fight in the war by breaking her hands (Mercy also had a way to heal D. Va's hands after the war ended.)

D.Va ended up fighting in the war anyways (probably using the mech as her hands) and the two met on the battlefield. The results of the battlefield are unclear but Mercy wakes up and finds D. Va's lifeless corpse in front of her. In the final panels Mercy tries using her cure (which she intended to use to fix D.Va's hands) to resurrect D.Va. It fails, D.Va is dead forever, sad end.

A good summary, but one detail is missing: after Mercy regains consciousness, it is strongly implied that D.Va shielded her from the brunt of a fatal attack with her mech and her own body. In other words, even after what Mercy had done to her, D.Va still gave her life for her.

...good thing this is not my main Mercy ship. :-(

A story from Kodama Naoko that doesn't involve cheating and other forms of fucked-up relationships and isn't titled Renai Manga? What is this heresy??

Anyhow, the manga is pretty cute, plus I have a fondness for the beautiful bookworm archetype. :-)

Well maybe second biggest interest if you count Kase...

If there is anyone or anything Kase should really be jealous of, it's Yamada's plant studies. >__> In fact, I am still waiting on the reveal that Yamada is an actual sentient plant, which is why she has a leaf growing out of her head and has no clue about human sexuality whatsoever...

That cover is somewhere between hilarious and horrifying, though. Butts don't work like that!

It reminded me of that period of the Nanoha franchise (a year or two IIRC) when every single official art featuring Fate has had her butt turned to the viewers. Even the ones that also showed her face and breasts from the front...

The first half of this doujin is one of the best depictions of the quiet -- and therefore almost untreatable -- depression I have ever read. Only the first chapter of "The Private Report..." depicts it more auhtentically, and that one is autobiographical...

books with lesbian romance (sub)plots

This one.

Alright. One I've read most recently was The Masked Empire by Patrick Weekes, although I'm not sure whether you're into video game tie-in novels. It does have the romance between an empress and her spy master as one of the central subplots.

I love Dragon Age, haven't read The Masked Empire yet.

I'm glad. :-) Though, if you've already played DA:I, you probably have a pretty good idea of how the book ends...

That's probably the most accurate description. Yamada is definitely not against physical intimacy with Kase, she's just a total sub in bed at the moment. And Kase is torn between protecting Yamada's (admittedly adorable) cluelessness from herself and doing what's really best for both of them.

I get the feeling that it absolutely has never once occurred to her to kiss Kase-san on the neck, or that doing so would even be enjoyable. And if Kase-san did that to her, she'd freak out and jump away. Sex and intimacy beyond kissing is alien to her.

I think she is a person with a very narrow feedback channel to her own body, meaning that she both "filters out" most of her physical sensations (so she won't have to engage with them consciously), and cannot orient herself within the possibility space of said physical sensations. The former leads to her being overwhelmed by having to deal with pleasurable physical contact, while the latter precludes her from "straying" from tried-and-true physical interactions like kissing, because she has no idea if anything else would feel good or bad.

Kase, meanwhile, navigates the space of physical sensations with grace and aplomb, because as a professional sportswoman, it is her life.

Are you looking for books with lesbian romance (sub)plots or for books with the specific combination of archetypal tropes found in yuri manga? The latter is only a subset of the former, and it's not clear which you are referring to the opening post...

How do you relate the tittle to the tsundereness of the main characters at the start?

I think i worded it a bit wrong should have just said "I think the title is more alluding to the tsundereness of the main characters"

The title itself is hostile and tsundere trope characters are generally initially hostile from what i understand before they start to open up. So if they are having feelings towards each other of a "liking" nature wouldn't it make sense for them to blame the other therefore wishing the other didn't exist so they wouldn't have to feel that warmer side. Remember a tsundere character doesn't know they are fitting into a tsundere trope. Not sure if that made sense.

I'm not so sure about tsundere's way of thinking. But wishing the other not to exist just so that they wouldn't have to feel that warmer side is a little too much. I would expect that from yandere instead.

I'm talking figuratively not literally. If they literally wanted the other to stop existing then they'd more likely be yandere. I know what i mean, i'm probably just not explaining it to you so that you can understand what i mean.

Tsundere is a character archetype characterized by pragmatic confidence, emotional immaturity, and aggressive denial of the latter in light of the former. When liking another person, a tsundere becomes trapped in a cognitive dissonance between her (the trope is gender-neutral, but both subjects in this case are female, so I'll stick to this pronoun) overall confidence and not actually knowing what to do with her feelings. This results in rapid cycles of often unconscious denial--of her feelings (the tsuntsun episodes) and of her own nature (the deredere episodes)--during interactions with the target of her affections, which continues until she overcomes her emotional immaturity and embraces her inexperience in order to discover this new side of life.

In this case, the title has several meanings (see spoilers above), but one legitimate way to read it is as an (subconscious) expression of Guk-Hwa's attitude towards Jang-Mi after she starts feeling attracted to her, but before she stops unconsciously denying these feelings because of preconceived notions about Jang-Mi that resulted from the way they initially met each other. In a classic tsundere fashion, Guk-Hwa correctly identifies Jang-Mi as the leading cause of her highly uncomfortable cognitive dissonance, but instead of resolving it in a rational and mature fashion, she instead wishes Jang-Mi had never entered her life in the first place. In other words, this reading of the title is not a yandere's practical intent to literally destroy a rival, but a tsundere's childish attempt to resolve her basic personality conflict by basically wishing it away.

I'm confused, are Yamada and Kase still dating?

There have been no indication to the contrary. The closest they have theoretically come to breaking up was when Kase decided to move to Tokyo, but before Yamada followed her. The more pressing issue here is, however:

The way [Yamada]'s been portrayed thus far, it's not a lack of interest. She's been portrayed as someone who literally has no idea how people can be intimate beyond kissing. She's not even aware of kissing anything besides the lips. You get the feeling she was raised in a special breeding vat and only allowed to watch the Japanese version of Mr. Rogers.

That's probably the most accurate description. Yamada is definitely not against physical intimacy with Kase, she's just a total sub in bed at the moment. And Kase is torn between protecting Yamada's (admittedly adorable) cluelessness from herself and doing what's really best for both of them.

Kase-san wants more sex. :) No point in avoiding the point.

Well, it's not like there is anyone in the same room as her who has committed to a long-term romantic (and otherwise) relationship with her.

The pains of being a huge perv like Kase in love with an oblivious dummy like Yamada... unless Yamada is doing that on purpose.

And now we've got a man killing his ex-lover on the news and a chain-smoking stalker in the hallway. Just what this story needed.

Nothing ratchets up the suspense quite like a gun! Or however that quote goes.

I believe it went something like, "If the plot is going nowhere, have a man walk through a door with a gun in his hand." I don't think that's the issue here, however. :D
