I don't know if that is what the author was aiming for, but I can't think of this as anything other than a good ending. I have been reading Curiosities of Lotus Asia on the wiki, which centers on it, and Kourindou was never really portrayed as anything more than a bad imitation of a business.

Kourindou's ram-shackle nature of being basically a yard sale with a roof is all part of it's charm
