Forum › Future scanlation chapter , when will they happen?

joined Oct 11, 2010

I watched the anime and then downloaded and read the scanlations up to chapter 15 for the manga. That essentially covers the first season AKA in chapter 13. But I read that the manga is upto chapter 53 in japan. And it has been 3 months since the last release of Shikabane hime was july of this year. I know their bussy with other series to translate, but could we get another chapter for shikabane hime?

we're working on it. i have up to 17 translated, and MrE is finishing up 16. however, as he's said before, school and work make it a slow process. however, that's a pretty accurate timeline for this series. 3 months per chapter sounds about right to me, just cuz the chapters are so freakin long and SFX heavy and there's other stuff we work on in between.

I'd offer to help, however i'll be honest my only skills are around photoshop. Translation is not a skill i have, aside from using an inaccurate translator.

I'm apologise for what may seem to be rude, it's just that I have no experience in this field whatsoever, but why is it taking you so long to translate it? There are 15 VOLUMES out in japan and all of them are on the internet, why have you only translated 19 chapters? Does it really takes so much time? Because many ongoing mangas, e.g. naruto and one piece are translated in a week's time or so (I don't know because I don't read it) but for you to translate 1 chapter of shikabane hime takes 3 months? I know you are doing this for free and I really aprecciate it, I just don't understand why it takes you so much time... It is great manga and if it would be released every week or two it would become popular, because as I just said it is great. Especially when anime didn't end properly, many people are dying to find out what happened with Makina and Hokuto, if makina and other shikabane himes are alive, and how is Ouri.

Yes in fact it does. Especially with Shikabane Hime because each chapter is pretty long. Although I'm no expert, I do know that the process involves more than just translating the Japanese characters. You need to clean off the scan of the Japanese text (including a lot of those little doodad characters, usually sound effects) then insert English. The tricky part is making the English text fit where the Japanese used to be especially because they read right to left, top to bottom. I'm also pretty certain that these people have other concerns in their lives than translating manga. They probably do it out of pure passion and love of the series. We can just hope that passion doesn't die out.

Imma let ya finish but, Naruto and One Piece are two of the most popular manga are of all time, ALL TIME.
So basically the translators have a lot more incentive and probably more help.

As English speakers we are basically 2nd rate consumers of anime and manga. Producers and authors in Japan rarely have us in mind when they are creating something new. Do you think Hollywood producers will make new movies with a Japanese audience in mind? Probably not.

I've only been into anime for a little over a year, and have only been reading manga for less than a year, but I realized quickly how harsh it is to be a fan of this kind of stuff. You just have to accept it.
