This should come as no surprise as it is long overdue.
Tags go through constant churn and our team is just too small and too busy to reasonably keep up without OrangePekoe coming in with the hail mary a few times a year. As of this post there's 862 tag requests in waiting!
The forums have long had a caustic reputation, but it's clearly taken a disgusting turn with uptick in anti-trans rhetoric and we need the extra eyeballs to help correct the ship.

There are a few hard requirements for both positions:

  • Be fluent in English. Doesn't matter if English is your first or fourth language as long as you're fluent in it because you're going to be reading a lot (you've certainly seen some essays posted by some regulars in here) to determine if anything is actionable. We're also English-only speakers so not having communication foibles is critical as well.
  • Discord (or if we end up moving to something like Flux down the line, whatever it ends up being) is mandatory as well for live direct communication between us.

Additionally what we're looking for in a moderator:

  • Be level-headed and understanding. Things get heated, both on the forums and frankly almost everywhere else on the internet, and you must be able to address any potential valid points being made on their merits rather than on reaction. Of course there should still be the need to discipline the OP themselves if they take things too far in their anger (with warnings or whatever feels necessary) but you must be able to parse through it first to see if there are validity to any claims.
  • You're going to need to be familiar with both internet culture and LGBTQIA+ internet culture. Recognizing landmines associated with certain terms/phrases/behavior and understanding some people's upbringings that aren't your own will greatly help in preventing offenses from occurring by accident. Being knowledgeable of typical tactics employed by awful people such as dogwhistling or "just asking questions" will also be important to get people who understand our rules and use these ways to skirt offenses by word manipulation.

Additionally for tag reviewer:

  • We expect inquiries to us or other people regarding important tag addition or removal (typically going to be yuri/subtext and spoiler tags) even if you're confident. We need to be able to trust you with such actions so we will want to be notified of those things, at least early on.

Post your username and desired position in our Discord in #forum-applications to be considered. We're going to be putting more of our focus on the moderator positions than tag reviewers as that's more important right now, but if you want to do both then that is also an option.

If you find that you don't want to do this anymore for any reason, please just let us know. Ghosting is incredibly common since this is the internet, but it'd be quite nice if you can just tell us with just a few words that you're out so we can go back to recruiting a replacement sooner instead of coming to the conclusion much later that we lost people.
