Okay, I am never gonna watch this anime, so someone just tell me... does she die? Seems kinda obvious based on the pic and the comments, but who knows with a crazy thing like this... I thought people got annoyed 'cause the male MC was gonna star in the series instead of her, so... does she really show up just to get killed off... just another reason not to watch this, I suppose. I'm reading about it now though, and it seems like neither the male or female version show up based on a cursory reading of the Wikipedia page so... yeah, I don't get what's going on at all.

Literally the very first scene of the fate extra anime is both hakunon and nero getting killed by the last boss of the video game source material. Hakunon is seen bleeding on the floor with no legs and a hole in her stomach, while nero fights the boss and eventually gets killed herself when she also gets a hole blown in her stomach.

Ah, that's a shame, looks like she did just show up to get killed off... though it looks like this image isn't entirely accurate then, heh. Impressively fast work though considering it came out yesterday. Though, yeah, how does she show up in the series anyway since it apparently focuses on male Hakuno? Is it left as a mystery, is it just a giant troll move (like "you wanted female Hakuno? WELL HERE SHE IS!"), or is a time loop/alternate universe thing? Is there any hope for her to show up in the future? (probably not, but I might actually watch it if that ever happens)

not explained yet. Based on the source material and the title being "Last Encore", I'm assuming it's the previous war's ending where nero and hakunon lost. Then fast forward to the current one where the male one exists and summons nero again. That's probably why it's called Last Encore, it's Nero's last encore/2nd attempt at the war after losing the first time.

Saber (seems like she) recognizes Hakuno when she gets summoned, which makes me think male and female Hakuno are the same person in this anime.

I still hope it's like Apocrypha that starts with the end... Since they said that the battle would be like an RPG and the protagonist finished the chapter full of holes, maybe he revives as fem hakuno... Pls pls pls die and revive as fem hakuno :(

@sorathecrow I hope that's not the case because people will say the argument that "she's not really a girl so it's not yuri." Like ughhhhhhhhh, they already do that for the game and they'll start saying the anime is the canon one so F!Hakuno x Nero is fake and shouldn't be shipped anymore. Ughhhhhhhhh, I'd rather her be a separate person and had just died.

@LumberingCrane So, does Nero remember everything from the previous war? Is she the same... Servant?... who was resurrected somehow or a reincarnation or something? I'd assume from sorathecrow's comment that she is actually the same person, but yeah... as I said, I know nothing about Fate.

Oh my gosh, they made a choice between two equally canon options. Its not worth getting that worked up about just over the gender of one character.

@sorathecrow Thing is though, they announced three new Fate animes in the beginning of January, all from games with chooseable gender. Guess what, all of the animes are going to have male protagonists. So I don't see why I shouldn't get worked up over it when the female versions are the more popular and yet they still choose the male one every time. So I'm going to get worked over it, especially when female Hakuno was more popular than the male one in an official poll by at least 40 ranks. Like seriously, wtf Type Moon. If he was more popular, then I wouldn't be mad, but female Hakuno is more popular by a wide margin, and they literally made the first scene what it was to drive it in further on their choice.

Male self insert. Females are better for official art cos you can draw next cute girl, but for anime you want someone that otakus can self insert into (yes, I'm jaded about it since it is everywhere and I will never stop complaining about it).
