It bothers me that they are looking at the camera and not each other. Is that strange?

@KitchenReno no I agree with you. them looking at the camera makes the whole scene feel staged for an audience, more pornographic than if it were actual porn. Something fake. If they look at each other than at least it's like they're there for each other, you know.

If you imagine that Diana set this up to get poster-sized pictures of her and Akko, it gets a little bit better.

Nope you are not strange - you would think more artists would realise a lot of people dislike pictures where the subjects are looking at you like a photo-shoot. It makes it seem staged.
Nice art tho otherwise.

@kithenReno Yeah. Too bad. The colors are lovely. Reminds me of those, "we walked in on them doing it" gag images. At least those are suppose to be funny. I never find them funny though.

The art is good, but like a lot of people are saying, really not digging the "looking at the camera" schtick. Makes me uncomfortable, for some reason.

^I'm pretty sure their looking at the camera is a reference to that thing that happens in some visual novels where two girls will act gay in order to arouse the MC into joining in on the sexy times. I've seen it happen a few times. In this case they are inviting the viewer.
It's frustrating but pics like this are not intended to be depictions of actual gay love.

@Random_Bird Yup that is the worst interpretation of images like this - that I try to not think about - and I know with a lot of them that is what they are aiming for. But the viewer being 'invited' to join is a total turn off and mood killer - and like you say, means the image is NOT about the 2 girls being together or liking each other but some kinda frat boy fantasy.
If the image lets you (I.e they are not reaching to the viewer etc) the best way to look at them is they are posing for a photo or were interrupted etc - but that still is a lot worse than if they were just looking at each other.

^^Ugh, yeah, I think that's why this image made me feel weird. It's just really gross. If you're going to have them look at the viewer, at least give them shocked/angry expressions so that it seems like someone walked in on them. That's still sleazy, but at least it's a little better than some basement dweller's fantasy.

I could see this if it were Idolmaster or something, where posing for a photo would be totally in character. But for these two, it's hard to picture it.

That said, not sure I'd say it's not intended to depict gay love. It may be that the artist sees a lot of shots like those and just assumed well, that's how it's supposed to go. Their other stuff on Pixiv seems similar.

^you may be right, assuming intentions is usually a bad idea. Still, images of two people focusing on an offscreen third party don't convey the love too well regardless of what the intent was.

I do agree that them looking forward looks awkward, its most likely the artist wanted to draw the full faces :P

I love this image so much- everything about the art style has me in love.
^^^ I mean, Akko and Diana did kinda save the world at the end of the series. You'd think that would garner them enough fame to warrant a photoshoot.
