I just read up some article that 'confirmed' Genji x Mercy through lines for Valentine? Wtf is going on...
Minutoh Jan 10, 2017 12:20AM
Well, it's not really confirmed, but, eh, yeah, I guess Pharmercy's probably going down. It's not like anyone actually expected it to happen though so, oh well, what can we do. Fanart will always exist even if canon acceptance doesn't.
zanpakutoman Jan 10, 2017 12:35AM
If that's true, then that also means Genyatta is going down too....... :( aw man. Two of my favorite ships...
La Aoi Beau Chico Jan 10, 2017 12:47AM
why wont they allow an interracial couple to be born! This is unjustice! Give me pharmercy! I need my daily medications!

Having looked at at least one of the articles and listening to the actual dialogue, it's literally just Mercy and Genji giving each other chocolate with seemingly no romantic overtones in the delivery. I mean, it could just be a hint of what'll actually happen with the full event, but they're supposed to be friends and it is a Valentines event, so it could easily be nothing.
Sup Jan 10, 2017 7:47AM
I'm agreeing on @Lifecharacter. Besides, and correct me on this, it's kinda like customary to give chocolate on Valentine's and White day even though it's not romantic
Sup Jan 10, 2017 7:50AM
Also, I think they're making fun of Mercy being Swiss and Swiss chocolate
SaturnX Jan 10, 2017 8:05AM
Yea, I do think it was a bit of an over reaction. There really was no romance hinted, I was just confused by the number of articles written for such an insignificant thing.

Far as I can see, Blizz really isn't into heroes having relationships with other heroes outside of Pharah and Ana's family connection. Some are buddies, but generally those with romantic connections are paired with civilians. As for Genji and Mercy, it's not like he doesn't have other reasons to give her chocolates.
I am amused that a lot of the "Tracer kissing Emily doesn't mean she's queer" crowd are totally on board with "Chocolates mean destined romance".
aryahime Jan 10, 2017 12:59PM
It's just some Swiss chocolates... can everybody chill? Besides Blizzard promised we gonna get more LGBT characters (aside from Zarya and Tracer) and the whole Shimada drama must be based on some unfortunate events connected to the family honor (Genji's queerness for example). Am I the only one thinking this?
Nezchan Jan 10, 2017 1:59PM
When did they officially say Zarya was LGBT?
aryahime Jan 10, 2017 2:54PM
Didn't they? My bad then.
Nezchan Jan 10, 2017 3:10PM
Nah, pretty sure the fans just assumed she was because she's really butch.
saizon Jan 10, 2017 3:54PM
Yeah, if you pay attention to the dialogue, it sounds like it can just be two close friends giving each other chocolate or it's one-sided on Genji's part. But it seems like Blizzard is REALLY trying to push for Gency right now. Either way, I'm disappointed, but I'm not angry. If there IS something I'm mad at, it's Blizzard's poor way of not letting the audience know sooner so that the backlash could at least be somewhat less hostile and outraged. It's been a pain in the ass--on both the pro- and anti-Pharmercy sides--to deal with.
And yeah, there's a lot of "TRACER'S NOT GAY" stans celebrating the fact that Genji and Mercy are giving each other chocolates. Ugh...really lets you know what kind of people they actually are.
PaleRider Jan 10, 2017 5:52PM
I don't think it's confirmed. It's just valentine bs. Like when you go to work and give co workers chocolate and compliments even when you don't like them.

Most of people's reactions to those lines come from the fact the lead writer has admitted himself to really like Gency and thus, people are understandably worried about the guy subtly pushing his preferred ship.

The Valentine's chocolate exchange is ESPECIALLY irrelevant because, reminder, GENJI CAN'T EAT.
