I don't understand why people keep drawing a tall and possibly muscular chatacter this large. I just don't get the appeal of this.

Not saying the art is bad, I just don't get it.

"How am I supposed to find character sexually attractive if they have a normal body and look like a real person I might see outside?" There's no reason she couldn't be muscular under that perfectly normal layer of fat. She's not a body builder, she's an adventurer. She wouldn't starve herself for a physique, she would take the calories where she could get them

She has some extra plumpness, but no layered rolls of fat. That is the difference between a healthy woman and one that needs to lose weight. This Falin is perfectly acceptable. A hug from her must feel nice and warm.
(Edit) 20 years ago stress and a terrible work environment led me to being a massive 340 lbs hambeast of a man with giant rolls of flab. I've lost a LOT of weight since then so I know the struggle.

the commenter up above, as far as i can tell, was talking in terms of character design accuracy. and on that level i tend to agree: if it's too far from the source, i dislike and ignore. so, paging back and moving on with your day is free and easy! if you like this interpretation, enjoy. and if you don't, there's a ton of other art to look at. and neither side needs to belittle or antagonize the other.

I dont think that level of fat is healthy. You can like it, or be attracted to that bodytype but it has nothing to do with being a woman. Thats just cope. she is like 35%+ bodyfat from the looks of it. Thats already going to limit what you can do and increase mortality rates. I am not into people who are thay overweight, and neither are most people. Thats not such a wild statement. However, you should never be an asshole about it or rude.

Get a load of this, we've got a nutrition scientist in the chat. :D
I think it's worth remembering that fan art is still fan art. If someone doesn't like an artist's interpretation, there are plenty of other images to look at rather than analyzing a fictional character's body as if the artist was trying to create an anatomically accurate reference sheet. It reminds me of when I saw people on Instagram criticizing an artist for drawing Twilight as Black. Fan art doesn't have to be a perfect one-to-one recreation of the original character; reinterpretation and personal style are a big part of what makes fan art interesting.

Also, I own the physical copy of the art book for this series, and there is an entire section dedicated to the character's anatomy. Falin is described as being 69 kg and 170 cm tall. So the way she is drawn here is simply the artist's style and interpretation rather than something that needs to be judged against real-world expectations.

godeepsheep Jul 19, 2026 5:37PM

yeah if she is 69kg. and 170cm she would be lean. My issue is with the comments above. Not the artist. Literally saying "if you dont like fat women, you dont like women" you are the ones making insane statements. And it's this delusional way of thinking that isolates you guys. And it doesn't take a nutritionist to fkin see if someone is obeese. But I guess you think reading a nutrition label must be akin to an eating disorder xD

It's really annoying when pathetic losers make ridiculous and baseless accusations. There's been a lot of that here lately for some reason. Maybe knock it the hell off.

@godeepsheep Ok I think you misunderstood what I was actually saying. I wasn't defending the idea that "if you don't like fat women, you don't like women," I didn't even notice that comment until you mentioned it nor was I talking about whether someone is attracted to a certain body type. My point was about the way people were analyzing a piece of fan art. The artist was not trying to create a medically accurate anatomy reference, so treating a fictional character's design like a real person's health assessment misses the point of the artwork.

Artists have the freedom to interpret characters through their own style and perspective. If someone doesn't like that interpretation, that's fine, but turning a fan art discussion into a debate about body fat percentages, mortality rates, and whether a fictional character is "healthy" is a completely different conversation.

Also I never said anything about nutrition labels being related to an eating disorder, so please don't attribute arguments to me that I didn't make.

People treating fatness with the same level of concern as like, recreational drug use, when “fat” is something you can literally just BE, is always kinda sad. Like i should just be shouting “AWOOOGA” here and instead I gotta be woke or whatever. (Also re:lore- adventurers canonically fluctuate body weight quite a bit due to how resurrection works in-universe, which I suspect has led to some of the fanart interpretations? Also theres portions of the manga where Falin is drawn a bit more heavier-set, though by no means “fat” necessarily.)

Oh and for the record, AWOOOOGA eyes pop out of my skull wolf whistles

@LilyBlueCat you said "woah look we got a nutrition scientist here" in a mocking tone, i think its fair game to say what I said in return. And honestly yeah the artist can dk whatever they want, but I have every right to think its not a good interpretation of the character. It doesn't fit the character nor is it true to the story, nor does it make sense for the universe they are in. The artist clearly just likes fat girls and that's fine. I like the character being portrayed true to the story. This is not it. And the people in the comments getting triggered by it are out of touch with how bodies actually work and look. And just because its "art" that doesn't mean you can do whatever and not get criticized for it when you do a 180 on how a character usually looks like.

Kuroko-railgun
LilyBlueCat Jul 20, 2026 5:25AM

^ I get the impression you're treating this like an argument where someone has to "win," rather than a discussion where people can exchange different perspectives.

Yeah for sure you have every right to criticize the artist's interpretation, just as the artist has every right to draw the character however they want. That's how fan art works. Not every interpretation has to appeal to everyone. So I'm not really sure what we're disagreeing about anymore. You think it isn't faithful to the source material, the artist clearly had a different vision. Both of those things can be true. My only point from the beginning was that turning a stylized piece of fan art into a debate about body fat percentages and mortality rates seemed like an odd way to engage with it. Since you brought up whether it "doesn't make sense" in the series' universe, I don't know if you've watched the show, but there are plenty of fairly tall canonically chubby characters throughout it. For example:
https://www.pinterest.com/pin/20195898324989085/
I wouldn't really call this a complete 180. It's just Falin with a bit of extra fluff to her. (Get it :D because she's also part dragon-bird)
But with all that said, I think artwork of Falin being drawn extra fluffy or more muscular is both attractive, so I don't really have much negative to say about this fan art. ;) This has gone way out of proportion, so let's just agree to disagree. To each their own.

Okay but wasn’t the anime literally about them going on adventures and eating a lot? Like I only watched the first episode (I would have watched more but I realized that the age rating was too high and vro I’m not getting in trouble for watching a anime that’s not 100% yuri) but like they were munching down on literal monsters they just killed. So I don’t think it’s that surprising if Falin was larger, they basically ate whatever they could catch.

Like also whoever said that this was an unhealthy weight or whatever, it’s like…I mean kinda not really. Falin is literally just built bigger in general. And in this image like she’s not even that big </3 especially if youre taking In bone structure and yk the fact that people have organs. Idk it just looks like she has a bit of a gut???

Crazy how most of the comments are because of one person (who comments on every chubby falin artwork)

Can't even click on fat girl art without people getting weird what the actual fuck is wrong with people? If you don't like looking at art of fat women, don't click on it. Drawing fat woman art is not a moral failing. Just fuck off.

Everybody else who was being normal, thank you. I am a fat woman myself due to my disabilities, and seeing people get real fucking weird and assholeish about this always depresses me.

all of the people who just always mysteriously show up to comment on artworks depicting character as fat with sudden and urgent legitimate health concerns are quite interesting, no? (no, not really imo)

assuming y'all who behave like this have the BEST possible intentions and respect towards others you can possibly muster, I can only still assume it's at most 50% about actually caring about people's health, as for the other 50% (most likely much more, if not 100%,) it's probably kinda obvious what those are.

but hey, I guess restraint can be appreciated, at least they're not straight up hurling insults, so kudos(???).

edit: also people being positive use normal positive words challenge (honestly, whatever, surely there are people out there who's super into being infantilized with playful languages such as the ones on display here, and also Falin is not real, lol, so I probably should stop being negative for nothing. y'all have fun, it's a free forum.)

To clarify my point, as it seems to have gotten far removed from my intentions, Coolsnail was correct.

I was only confused by the trend of drawing Falin so much larger than she appears. If that was the case, no other character gets drawn to be that size, only her?

The only thing I tend to overlook in modifying existing character designs is breast size, as sometimes people think a character looks cuter with smaller, or larger breasts. But, when a large majority of people draw Falin like this, it just bothers me.

Not because she's large, but because it's such a departure from her actual design, like I just don't get it.

If people like it, whatever, that's for them to decide, I just wanted an explanation on why this trend of drawing her like that started.
