@LilyBlueCat I'm fine with Shaolan as a character and he pairs well with Sakura FWIW. It's just that I wish Tomoyo would have given herself a chance and confessed first, instead of just sacrificing her own feelings.

I'm not a fan of fated love in the first place and like the idea to go against fate. I would love the magical girl genre so much more if it were actually gay. But I guess that wouldn't have been an option at that time, even if the author wanted the story to go in that direction.

How nostalgic! But considering it was written by CLAMP this wasn’t something that was ever going to happen. The only gay couples they ever usually made cannon were the male ones.

CLAMP does have gay female pairings, they just tend to leave a lot to be desired. From what I remember CLAMP tended to have the lesbian pairings not survive to the end.
