Her scars are explained at the end of book six. It's why the manga is categorized as "horror" on amazon

Man, it’s been so long since the last time I saw content of that manga.

Lovely image.. Yes, we got a glimpse of her scars in the anime too- she went thru a lot of shit when a really young magic girl.
