^It have really good reviews so I guess it's better than last attempts in this franchise. I don't know because fck Konami for using 2022 USD to PLN conversion.

I agree it's good but it requires you to play through it at least 3 times to get the best ending (NG, NG+ and NG++). The default ending at NG is not satisfying. It really feels like you're missing content for not doing NG+.

I've only seen playthroughs of the first run so far, but I liked the story. It sets up lots of mysteries that I hear the ng+ runs mostly answer. I didn't know it was so expensive, though. That sucks.

@Mr. Jones Yeah Silent Hill F is well reviewed and well received, along with making money. Same with Blooper's SH2 remake. Silent Hill in the last year or so actually returned with good games that people like once again lol

I beat Silent Hill f earlier this week.
It was alright. Gameplay is okay, it's not really scary due to players combat capabilities being too high and can't say I was too high on the story. Atmosphere is good though.
There is no yuri in game.

I don't think the combat takes away from the game or the scariness, as the combat leans into narratives around Hinako's anger.

Isn't the combat just Dark Souls? Seems like an okay combat system to have in a horror game to me

Eh, the game is really only scary for like the first 30ish min and it becomes less so as the game goes along.
You don't start with a weapon, so for the first enemies you are helpless and have to avoid them. And once you do get a weapon, you are still not sure how hard the enemies are going to be.
But you quickly learn that the enemies are easily dispatched by a heavy attack into a flurry of light attacks.
But then you find out weapons can break and you start worrying that you have to ration your weapons, so you start avoiding some enemies. But then you end up with a surplus of weapons and start bashing monsters just so the weapon doesn't go to waste.
And as you do, you get better at the combat and start countering enemy attacks, and with how lenient the timing is and how easy it is to bait counterable attacks, the enemies starts being less "oh god" and more "ugh just get out of my face"

^I think we're just different types of people when it comes to horror games, it sounds like you're in the camp that believes horror games aren't scary if you have a weapon and can kill the monster, where as I still think the game is scary even with an ability for combat. Plus I'm fine with F being different from 1 and 2 myself. So I think this is one of those agree to disagree moments, and that's okay no worries lol

I think games where you have a weapon can be scary. But there is a threshold where you become too strong. Like if they had removed the counter, the perfect dodge and made heavy attacks stun the enemies for a shorter amount, then it could have made the enemies scarier.

^That's fair, I commonly hear that people hate being able to fight back in horror games, so that's where my mind went with it. Which personally I just think the aesthetic and designs are enough to scare me still lol

In Speed Dating for Ghosts, Spooky Peter teaches the player on how to properly haunt people, and his most important lesson boils down to "the goal is to become a presence, not a nuissance". I think more about that than I probably should.
Anyway, this superbly applies to any form of combat in horror games. If your enemies are to weak, they start to feel like padding in-between the juicy parts: "ugh, more chaff to shred before I continue". Conversely, if they are too strong ... well, after the third time of dying the same way in the same place, it's not really scary anymore, but just frustrating. And there is only so much adjusting of the game's difficulty you can do to hit the goldilocks zone for every player regardless of their skill level.
That's why single, "Hunter-type" enemies imho work better, usually. Mister X, the SA-X, the Xenomorph, even the Pursuer from Dark Souls 2 (despite not featuring an X in his name) They each have an, err, "Aura" of fear, terror and anxiety they project, which common enemies just can't.

^Funnily someone I follow hates hunter enemies like Mister X. Usually I don't mind them or common enemies either, I'm pretty flexible or at least try to be. Definitely a personal mileage will vary thing in general though, and interestingly a different person I follow that loves SH 1 and 2 also loves F, along with loving the combat of F. Lots of varied opinions out there, and it's something where I wouldn't say anyone is wrong for how they feel of course. Only that it's good that Silent Hill has a new game that is at least generally well received.
