Hmm, I rarely see any yuri doujins of this series. Was the show even popular?

Yeah, I think about this too. Maybe it was only popular with Yuri fans and not the Anime community as a whole?

I liked the anime, for the most part. There wasn't really anything great about it but it was good enough to maintain interest. I feel like it would have been more popular if the ending wasn't such a cop out (bringing everyone who died back to life essentially) that annoyed a lot of people, myself included. Also less yuri in the anime compared to the manga which can't have helped it's popularity

There's not many yuri doujin because the source is already as yuri as possible. But, yeah, less yuri in anime but we got kickass musics to compensate.

I never saw much noise around it from the very beggining, not even here on dynasty, so I highly doubt that it's seemingly low popularity would be due to the ending you described.

It was a bit of a disappointment from Diomedea. They coulda done better. I wasn't particularly upset with the aforementioned cop out (they handled it well imho), but it felt like the end of an intro arc to a larger series. Which it isn't.
I freakin love this pair and anime, it was amazing. And fuck the Anime community, they only care for boring het harems and lolis. Underrated/“unpopular” anime are usually great imo

Ahh, it's like my eyes are being glaze with honey.
But seriously, what is up with the Anime community always going for those generic and highly repetitive genres?

^Probably because horny guys like inserting themselves into the protags, which is why they usually have literally no personality.
I personally dislike self-inserts, especially if they have some bullshitty thing that makes them special and/or the girls like them for literally no reason.
And cases like the Idolmaster Producer where you're told you have certain abilities or talents (instead of cases like Pokemon where you develop your abilities, and even if a character likes you, you get proper development from them).

Yeah, nice example is how totally brilliant anime Nichijou utterly failed in terms of commercial public success.
