This one artist really likes the ship-ship. I wonder why. Massachusetts and Jean Bart did fire on one another as enemies in our world so they do have that connection.

It's been a while since I played Azur Lane, but they fought each other in a scenario mimicking their WW2 encounter. Both are excited to fight each other,, Jean Bart see Massachusetts as strongest battleship, beating her would give her "glory". In result Jean Bart gun become inoperable (or jammed from getting hit) and she got sunk (or scuttled herself). Massachusetts wish they could work together if history went different.

Azur Lane doesn't have many ships (other than, you know, shipgirls), since it's waifu collector game, but relationships between girls is mostly based on their real world history (with some changes). Same like events, just with supernatural elements added. It make some mistakes (like mixing history of ships with the same names), but it got impressive amount of naval history tidbits.
