So, how is the new Gundam going?

^I assume you're talking about "GCucks" as people call it, I personally dropped it. The series wasn't what I was looking for personally. It's a very nostalgia driven hetero-normative love triangle series, and last I saw it was very focused on a murder of the week type narrative, that I call "Conveyor Built Murder" when media introduces a new character just for the sake of them being killed off. Here it felt largely used to further drive the characters down a dark path. I've seen people loving the series, but I decided it wasn't for me and called it good. I personally prefer GWitch and find the cast of Gwitch more more charming in general, along with Gwitch being more hopeful imo, which is the type of narrative that I need more of right now.

Rather fitting would’ve you say?

^Thanks for the breakdown Fluffycow. I still had Gcucks on my PTW list but hadn't heard much about it. Doesn't sound like it's something I'd be interested in.

The Gundam wiki does say Chuchu from WfM might be based on Chuchu from Utena

DrJamesFox, you're welcome. It's definitely a very different series than Gwitch, which is fine of course I just hope we get a new Gundam that's a bit more like Gwitch in the future.

I mean. Not every Gundam series has to be like G-Witch. Zeta isn't like G-Witch at all and it's still a great watch

^I'm not saying every series has to be like GWitch, I said "which is fine of course" because I was trying to let people know that I don't think every series has to be like GWitch. What I was trying to say is that if people enjoyed GWitch and are expecting something similar with GCucks it's very different. Ultimately GWitch aside I just don't think GCucks is for me, and that's okay. I'm happy for anyone that's enjoying GCucks.

@FluffyCow Thanks for sharing, I don't see people talking too much about it. I guess this nickname has something to do with the sudden lack of image uploads of this series in here...

@ObsessiveFingerLicker You're welcome. Also it's interesting with the name, when the series was first announced people were trying to understand how to say the series name and poking fun a bit due to the weirdness of it, debating on if it's said like Quacks or Cucks. Which is followed by an episode where I thought, wow they're really putting the cuck in the name, and from what I saw of episode discussions people were also saying the same. The thought isn't entirely serious but...the episode was weird, a summarized version of that episode is: For context Machu up to this point has been the primary pilot of the titular GQuuuuuuX mecha, along with her and the leading boy that pilots a red Gundam being able to connect intimately in a sparkle space while fighting together. During this episode Machu gets held up and their duo team will be disqualified from a mech fight if she can't make it, so Nyaan decides to jump into the GQuuuuuuX for the first time to keep the fights going and discovers that she can also intimately connect to the leading boy in the sparkle space while fighting with him. Machu watches that whole fight on a phone, and watching them fight together makes Machu hate Nyaan. Where Machu is especially pissed with Nyaan for connecting to the sparkle space with the boy, because Machu thought that was her special connection with him. Which is really dumb in my opinion, and it officially killed the Machu and Nyaan ship for me. That's around the time I stopped watching, though I've kept up with some of the series through osmosis and so fourth, and it doesn't sound like something I want to pick up again. The trio's dynamic aside there's a lot of things that I simply don't enjoy with the overall plot, handling of character introductions and deaths, character progression, so on.

I'm still watching it and let me tell you how much it annoys me when the two girls were pinning for the him. Shuji to me is useless. Only there for plot. Still gonna watch it as I've come this far. Will tell you if its worth it or not. God, I hate it when the main female protagonist is shifted to the back and the guy is taking the main screen time.

^Shuji is a wet cardboard main male protagonist, from what I saw his personality was flatter than some self insert isekai male protagonists. Both girls falling in love with him felt like some kind of prank...

juanelric Jun 1, 2025 8:16PM

^That's a fair opinion but Shuji literally disappeared.

I'm not gonna try to encourage anyone to keep watching, but Gundam usually gets a lot worse before it starts getting better. Even WfM had Suletta, Miorine and Guel fall into depression and do awful shit before they improved as people and got their happy endings.

Also I like Gundam in general, so as long as it doesn't pull an Amanchu I'll probably keep following GQuacks.

^Ah interesting, I don't think I got to the point of your spoiler hidden response. Also yeah GWitch had it's heavy content as well, but it also generally felt more hopeful to me, and I enjoyed the cast enough to stick with it. With GCucks personally I couldn't as attached to the cast, and the heavy nostalgia aspect wasn't for me. I have a friend that likes Gundam in general but also dropped GCucks, so I don't think it's just me. Though from what I've seen it's still popular, and the nostalgia element is a huge hit with it's core intended audience. Anyway, I hope you enjoy your time with the series.

I don't think the ship has been officially killed yet, but again I'm not gonna push anyone who already dislikes the series to keep watching. I really dislike Zeta although I watched it until the end (and although I like Kamille).

But also on the topic of the bad things the WfM characters did, Miorine gets disproportionally hated for hurting Suletta's feelings given there are three genociders in WfM (Delling, Prospera and Shaddiq). Meanwhile Itachi kills his whole clan but gets hailed as a hero because he "did it for his village".

@FluffyCow @schmurles @juanelric Thanks again for sharing, but now I'm confused if the ship sunk or not.

That was what I was afraid of in the beginning of this season. And let's be real, almost every male protagonist is like that.

But also on the topic of the bad things the WfM characters did, Miorine gets disproportionally hated

As a hardcore yuri fan, I don't care about genocide. I have priorities. Not that I disagree about Miorine being disproportionally hated, being mean to Suletta spices up the ship. Now about Itachi, you know, they are Naruto fans, maybe they just like the edginess or whatever. Idk, Idc, give me yuri or gtfo.

@ObsessiveFingerLicker I think the point where I dropped GCucks the Yuri ship was looking really dead to me, due to the series deciding to really focus on the girls crushing on the guy, Machu being angry and competitive towards Nyaan in regards to the guy. There was none of the initial spark between Machu and Nyaan anymore for me, and while they could have played around with maybe a messy bisexual love triangle the direction instead felt like an incredibly hetero love triangle. Though Juanelric has watched more of the series than I have and they sound more hopeful about the Yuri ship, so maybe there's some hopeful elements in regards to Machu and Nyaan past where I stopped watching the series. For me at least GCucks would really have to nail it's landing in a way that I enjoy for me to resume watching it.

Also, this isn't supposed to be a criticism to people here, but here it goes: as much as I understand the frustration (I still wish KumiRei was actually meant to be instead of KyoAni-induced bait), we were never promised Yuri in GQ, and there's a lot of bait/non-Yuri series that are still popular on the site. I was really wondering where you draw the line between "It's not Yuri but we still ship it" and "We weren't promised Yuri and we didn't get Yuri so now we hate it".
Again, I understand the frustration, but I really am curious.
