^She's not dead, going into some spoiler talk for the Cinderella Gray anime, Oguri Cap transfers to another city and school that gives her the opportunity to enter more challenging races, that also offer greater prestige and fame. Oguri had to leave behind her school and friends, including Norn who became Oguri's biggest fan after watching her races.
Also I'm out of the loop with the game myself but this art is inspired by the ongoing anime adaption that's adapting a popular manga for the series. So if you wanted to you could jump right into the anime, I don't think you need to know anything about the franchise going into this anime as it's a story specifically focused on the life and legacy of Oguri Cap, starting from the beginning.
