^I think you're asking about Falin, not Marcille. Anyhow, I think it's similar to how fan-artists often draw characters with exaggerated bodies, and it sticks to the point that it becomes the norm for artists and the fandom. Bigger ass, bigger boobs, thicker thighs, and so fourth are common. Then people are surprised when the character in the official art doesn't look like that. With Falin she wears kind of looser / baggy clothes in series, but to my knowledge her stats put her in average weight range, healthy, and in the manga/anime she looks like that as well to me. Not super slim but in the middle. However people enjoy drawing her heavier, and that's how a lot of the fandom sees her, so that's just how a lot of the art is going to roll.

I would like to note as well that I'm not saying how artists should draw her. Personally I enjoy it more when artists draw closer to canon builds on average, but I'm also not going to tell anyone what to do, and this art is fun.

Honestly, I get that people who "fix characters" usually have really ugly art styles, but I don't get why people get so mad at how others draw characters unless it's something legit offensive (like the trash of the internet deciding Momoi from Blue Archive is racist and going as far as drawing her in KKK clothes). People with a bit of fat shouldn't be that controversial.

I personally love chubby/ strong build falin, it's fun art. My personal headcanon is if they wouldnt have been starving 6 days a week she would probably be chubbier in canon too because those siblings love eating. I dort think it's any kind of "fixing", artists enjoy it and thats what they gonna draw. This time im lucky cause i also enjoy it a lot.
I feel like the manga didnt just teach us about good healthy eating habits but also how fun it is to have /draw different body builds that feel natural and shameless and not just because of some kind of attraction preference. :^)

^lmao I mean that art is definitely an exaggerated style and not how the series usually looks. The series does have a diverse cast in general though.

Also yeah I'm not going to shame anyone about their weight, some may need medical help, but if people are comfortable, healthy, and happy, that's good. All I can say for me is that I prefer slim to medium builds myself, as that's what's comfortable for me, and what I work to maintain through diet and exercise. As I've struggled with some weight gain and issues with it.

^It's not like I was criticizing you lmao

But people do this sort of stuff all the time, especially with Genshin Impact characters (which a lot of artist draw more or less buxom than others despite all using the same 4~5 models that only change the face/hair and clothes). I even joked that queer female artists drawing Arlecchino as toned was akin to straight female artists treating the male characters as buff despite them being stick figure-thin. xD

I really don't get why it's (usually only) a problem when it's making characters chubbier. My only problem is when they do it do characters that like to eat, I already hate how "liking to eat" is almost always the only trait of fat characters in Japanese media (looking at Futoshi from Darling in the FranXX). Even Hiromu Arakawa is guilty of this, with Tamako from Silver Spoon.

^Oh yeah I didn't think you were. I was only expanding on my own thoughts and trying to clarify them with the 2nd part of my post.

Also I've seen people take issue with bigger breast sizes being drawn and so fourth, so I think you can run into anything and everything online. I generally try not to complain on art, and I know artists aren't there to cater to me and my preferences. Which I know that my preferences lean towards characters being drawn with at least a bit more tone / muscle. Also while I often prefer to stay closer to canon visuals with fan art I will say that sometimes games like Genshin that have very similar models can be enhanced with some extra artistic flair. Due to my preferences abs are often a welcome addition on characters, especially ones such as Arlecchino, and I'd probably find it fun to see Falin with abs as well. Probably a knightly Falin that's princess carrying Marcille lol
