Okay I see, I'm still touhou dumb so I didn't even know they had official MCs. Who's the other?

Reimu and Marisa are the first MC in the first games. In some games, you have other MC joining (like Sanae). Imperishable Night had a lot of MC, coupling them in ways that did a lot of shipping (Reimu & Yukari, Marisa & Alice, Remilia & Sakuya, Youmu & Yuyuko).
As for why Marisa is seen as such a player, I think that's because in the games, she was often the target of double-entendre from various character, along with some of her special attacks being under the "love sign"
