For me, the focus is more on the character’s story and relationships rather than their skin tone.

@juanelric it's like you just see what you want to see. All of a sudden characters like Dehya, Kaeya, Xinyan, Jeht, etc just no longer exist huh?
@Ironhide isn't saying the characters aren't dark enough to suit one's tastes somewhat of a racist take in of itself?

@juanelric no I think the problem is very much you. To say "x character should be darker" is a very racist mindset. You're judging a character not by their culture but by how dark their skin is. By that mindset it's wrong to be a light skin person of character.
Also didn't you say you stopped playing? Why go around complaining about a game you don't even play? To ruin it for the actual fans?
Also it's very telling how now skin color and representation matter. I don't recall you ever complaining when all the Asian characters looked white. Or to you representation only matters when your skin is darker?

@thechampionmike95 I'm complaining about characters based on Latin American and Sub-Saharan natives not looking like their real life counterparts.
And I don't see how me no longer playing (for unrelated reasons even) means I'm no longer allowed an opinion.
Yeah, there's a lot of variety between real people, but that's the thing: the variety in Genshin Impact is minimal.
And as much as I hate his voice actor for being an actual racist, J.J. from Granblue Fantasy is proof you can have anime style characters with actual dark skin.
I find it way more telling that you're willing to brush Mihoyo's racism aside and instead think I have to consider every little thing before I am even allowed to complain about one thing.

The only sad part is I won't be able to enjoy those characters without either being called a racist by one side or the other side thinking I'm a based chud or whatever kids those days call it. And all I care about is to play my predatory gacha game in peace and have fun with it.

Well, I personally don't agree with calling others racist over liking characters that by themselves are not the problem, because what we're discussing in this site is the company's design decision of making all of them light skin when it's based on countries where people have a wide range of skin colours, and not what other people like. Unless that's happening off-site, then clearly those are people who are only interested in appearing "good" and nothing else, the watering down of what racism is helps nobody.
It is quite annoying how frequently this happens and it's not a matter of 'righteousness' as some want to make it about but more like "why does nobody take into consideration our reality and always have to make it where everyone is always either white or brown when often it's the two" or at least have a good reason for those people to be lighter/darker skinned only, such as by basing it off specific regions... Which they haven't and this is just another case of colourism.
I like Hachi Itou and OneeLoli in general so idc about it being loli, in fact I'm glad we're getting more on this site no matter the source. I don't mean to be rude but it would be nice if our complaints weren't being seen through twitterlens-of-thought because nobody here is being extreme.

is it really sensible to say "it's racist to want darker skin on characters based on regions where people have mostly dark skin"? like, yeah there's mixed people and some with lighter skin, but we can't just pretend there's no darker skinned people. not when the region is based on frickin' mexico before colonization
ps: yeah this should probably have the lolicon tag if it has the yuri tag

Yeah this is the second time they've reacted like that with the exact same argument.
So I think the user is bothered by melanin but don't want to say it outright, so instead they try to make us seem like we're the bad, crazy and racist ones for wanting to see more skin colours when we've said and made it clear multiple times that the problem isn't the character being light skin, but there being no dark skin characters at all despite it being based on regions where people have both light and dark skin in modern times or, at the very least, other traits people would consider "racialized".
but we can't just pretend there's no darker skinned people. not when the region is based on frickin' mexico before colonization
Yeah. Seriously, lol... How is wanting to see characters that reflect the people they're based on "ruining it" for the fans? You can't use real living people as your inspiration and expect them not to be bothered when you strip them away of what makes them... them. What juanelric and I are saying is completely sensible and my native relatives are not that light, they're brown and to affirm the opposite is to deny reality.
What a missed opportunity to have some multiracial yuri.
